ZeskGames truth, even watching it AFTER reading can do that.
The people behind Castlevania Netflix are interesed in making a Berserk adaptation. They even cited the 1997 series as an influence. (After the fuck-up that was Season 3 and how they did Alucard dirty, I am reconsidering all the things I have said) (And now after the dumpster fire that was Nocturne, I retract everything I said, I hope they stay AWAY from Berserk and never touch it in any way whatsoever)

Berserk 97: Do the extra work to make sure that every scene feels natural and smooth, never taking you out of the experience with a jarring animation slip up. And for the scenes that they simply couldn't do just for at the time, lovingly hand painted stills that continue to keep you feeling what the characters are feeling. And all of this accompanied by the timeless stylings of Susumu Hirosawa, who created songs so catchy and iconic people remember them 20 years later. potaterjim people like to shit on the 1997 anime for cutting stuff out but who can blame the studio ? They had to cover so much ground in 25 or so episodes. However the scenery was beautiful the hand painted water color backdrops truly showed their love and dedication to the series.
That Guts vs. Zodd fight looks like one of those SFM animation where they purposely animate with as few frames as possible for comedic effect, except without any of that intention. RIckert's facial expressions during that scene portray the audience's feelings about how it was animated.
Pretty much. By the way I first read your name as david schlong instead of david hong and it doesn't really matter so i'm saying this to say......... I'm not sorry about it.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the dub didn't bring back the original voice actors that voiced the characters in the anime and the movies. They were brilliant.
The reason why they didn’t come back was because they wouldn’t hire the old voice director who worked on the 1997 anime (which was dubbed in 2002) and the Golden Age movies.
No, no... the fact Berserk 16/17 didn't bring them back makes sense. The anime was shit so of course they would forget details like that. Everything was clearly broken from the start, a project doomed to failure.
10:05 Had to wait for 3 years to do this. I am honored to present to you the worst fight scene animation; Escanor vs Meliodas from the Seven Deadly Sins season 3. That shit makes this fight scene a Donny Yen movie scene alright.

Hearing about the issues with the 2D and 3D teams really makes you appreciate Howard Ashman. The reason the Disney Renaissance movies flow so fucking well, why every movement, every line, every twiddle of a finger, informs everything else, is because Howard looked at the segmented style Disney's production team was doing at the time and went "that's fucking stupid, you guys are all coming to me wondering how we can do this, or this, or that, how do we accomplish this, how do we make THIS work - here's an idea, TALK TO EACH OTHER!" So the music guys, animation guys, voice directing and acting guys etc. all worked in tandem with each other, familiarizing themselves with how the other half lives and works, and building on their creative decisions from there. If Berserk 2016/17 worked like that, we could've had something truly special on our hands
I see you, Cvit, putting Best Girl Kainé's (and her Grandma's) themes in the video to flex your kino taste. Also being reminded of season 2's OP brings up the absolutely HORRIBLE choice to give Griffith a cliche, evil grin. Despite the fact that Griffith's consistently calm and poised demeanor since his resurrection in the manga has sparked many a debate on what exactly his mindset could be, since some argue that he is trying to do good or simply truly empty of typical human emotion since the Eclipse, so of course he would always be at calm. But the addition of that fucking laughable grin just paints him as a cliche and robs so much of the mystery. But excellent video, as expected, one that was worth the wait!
For a worse fight scene: Escanor vs. Meliodas Not only is the choreography terrible, the animation doesn't deserve to be called that (at least Guts and Zod can move at the same time), it is a noteworthy moment in the story where two characters of ambigous strength, a human and a demon, each fight seriously against a worthy opponent and in showcases a significant power up in a very disappointing way (kind of like the Grunbeld fight)
@asian dude bruh you sound dumb as hell. Just because an anime isn’t popular, it doesn’t deserve good animation ? Fuck off. There’s a shit ton of anime that’s not considered “popular” and have beautiful animation. prime example : Kaijū no Kodomo. @Jules Brown That's so weird. My public library has every volume of One Piece, but only one volume of Berserk. And when I checked the volume release dates, currently every volume of Berserk has been released in the US.

Personally I have no issue with reading, I read quite a lot of books. But I don't enjoy reading manga, the story of beserk is great and I enjoy reading the manga but I find that despite that I just lose interest, I don't enjoy the medium of text and panels and I sadly still haven't managed to finish the manga as I end up reading in small bursts at best.
I just finsihed reading the manga, and it was so damn good. How is it that ANYONE in there right fucking mind would think it was a good idea to take one of the most beloved and most detailed stories ever and turn it into this shit. It seriously blows my mind
I realise now! Berserk 2016 was my first anime and i thought it looked great (and yes i was young and naïve) it was enough to satisfy edgy teen me and i was defending it but now that i see side by side comparison with the source material... Wow they butchered it
It wasn't my first anime, but it was close. This was the first anime I actually went out of my way to watch, any others I saw I caught because a friend was watching it, or it was on TV in those terrible 4kids dubs. When this got announced, I was so excited! My favorite manga gets an anime! Wooooo! When I first watched it, I quite liked it. Had a good time with it. I watched both the sub and dub and rewatched 2016 when 2017 came out. I only realized how terrible everything look and felt on that rewatch.
Berserk was the first manga I began to read. I saw the atrocious 2016 anime, was not impressed so I started to read. Berserk became my favorite story of all time. The best art, some of the best characterizations, and lore etc... I watched the 90's anime and was very impressed. The movies were good-ish but this new series, both seasons were absolute trash. We deserve a decent adaptation, that isn't CGI! Fantastic video as always! Maybe one day we will get a great adaptation! The animators of the marvelous Castlevania anime want to produce a Berserk series! Hopefully it happens, we waited long enough for a great anime!
@@derwanker1090 I'd like to see the fight against Wyald animated properly, since it's sort of foreshadowing the Eclipse. Not to mention the whole Griffith assassinating the Queen subplot (which was pretty epic) and the fight Guts and the crew had against the Bakiraka when they were rescuing Griffith.
No escaping this: "Can't hate" and "Don't loathe" mean two very different things. That genuinely feels like a translation trying to be flowery for the sake of flowery by replacing "hate" and "loathe" and not appreciating the ultimate difference to the scene. Direct language is best language outside of epic poetry.
They could have used a sound similar to how the ultra Great swords in Dark Souls sound for the Dragon Slayer. Like, fuck I wanna hear a hefty, powerful sounding strike. Not CLANG CLANG CLANG Also Schnoz was the best thing in that entire anime.
Meanwhile at ArcSystem Works and Studio Orange they're making 3d Renders that look and move like 2d Anime. Dude FighterZ looks so goddamn amazing- more amazing than dragon ball had ever looked before- for example the Broly movie was visually amazing so the gogeta and Broly dlc for fighterZ came out and it looks even BETTER like that dramatic finish bro!
I want to see someone redo the entire two seasons in SFM. Edit: it feels kinda weird to have Isidro Literally follow around a guy named guts and a girl named caska and not have him put 2 and 2 together since the eclipse didn't take place too long before the third arc.

It’s such a fucking shame this was even made. Berserk is a manga that truly deserves a good adaptation. Wonder why it didn’t sell well
i was just sifting through comments, all disappointed in berserk 2017 and here you go making me smile again. nice one. not sure why it made me smile near instantly, but here, take a like.
Well let's think about it. It's glowing blue cause of all the demons and astral spirits it's killed... which means... THE ABYSS GREATSWORD IS A BERSERK REFERENCE?! DOES THIS MEAN ARTORIAS IS GUTS AND GUTS IS ARTORIAS? IS DARK SOULS A GIANT BERSERK JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE SAINT SEIYA REFERENCE? OH MAHH GAWDDDDDDD WE'VE FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! SONOVA BEACH! ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA!! Yare yare daze.
The Dragon Slayer glow is of course due to the sword acquiring God ki, and using it on top of Super Saiyan. Guts leveled in Intelligence and Faith but not in Attunment, so he needs the SSJBlue sword to use magic and one shot Manus. I mean, can't you see that Guts is a saiyan AND Artorias?! ITS ALL CONNECTED GUYSEEE!
They wanted it to look and feel realistic and extremely detailed like a “Live Manga” even though technically the manga is 2D there’s no way to produce the same quality of the manga in a 2D anime format this is shown even in the golden age movies where the most detailed shit for example the eclipse was a complete CGI battle ground with just the characters in 2D and even then they had switched between 2D and 3D because of how impossible it would have been to get it right. Had they had more time and better experience and tools the vision they were going for possibly could’ve looked beautiful.
Because it would take literally forever to animate action scenes in 2D. Look at the Golden Age movies as an example of how to do action scenes in 3D without compromising of the look of it as a whole.
15:13: This is hilarious. In the manga he's wearing a headwrap so it makes sense that the sword would come out the other side but in the anime he's wearing a metal helmet so it no longer makes sense that it could be penetrated by a sword thrust.
Honestly the way Tokyo Ghoul Re and Berserk have come out, I believe it's just best to leave mature story-driven manga out of production until they get their shit right. If I hadn't watched the Golden Age arc, I wouldn't know what the fuck was going on. Same thing I saw a bunch of people saying about TG, we don't know what the fuck is going on but it looks cool so we'll roll. Next I really see no reason to keep anime in the same old condensed form of 22 mins, which works well for weekly manga since it's about 2 chapters for one episode. These shows manage to pack like 5 chapters into 15 minutes what the fuck... If they're already doing seasons and planning to sell them like that, why would you stick to the TV formula which falls flat on it's ass on the internet, where most money is made? Do 10 GOOD episodes and I would be happier than with the 51 we got.
The illustration quality contained within the pages of the Berserk manga series is LITERALLY the greatest in the entire history of this medium across all genres(In my opinion). Just remove the 3DCGI staff and hire more people for traditional animation. Heck, Goblin Slayer was immensely successful and it is pretty much a Berserk Light but with a halfway decent adaptation. Miyura and big studios like SHAFT, KyoAni and MadHouse hate money apparently, can't they just learn that shit sells when it has a good anime? I mean the SnK manga is pure shit and it sells like hotcakes because the anime has some production value.
3D cgi is not the problem .It's the execution .3d toon shader anime can look good .Look at Knights of Sidonia or Godzilla monster planet .Those are great
there is a specific song they used for the new series and i swear it sounds like the singer sings " GUTS AND.. GUTS AAND.. GUTS.. AAAND.. GUTS" and that threw me off multiple times.. you cant unhear it once its there..
People keep saying to forget the golden age arc but I think it needs a decent fully accurate adaption. It is the set up to a great story and is an amazing story in itself. Give us the whole accurate story, why is that so hard?
You want to know what the saddest part about all of this is? I have a small anecdote, and a real one. I've been told by this person that, they're fine with this because they don't want to READ. So basically, not only is this a poor low quality butchered version of the much tighter original manga, it's actually probably being passed out as fine by lazy people who don't like reading. It's actively selling the original short. And that's the worst part of all of this. I'm not blaming the lazy people either, it's just, a side effect of making something this bad based on something really good, these sorta of things should've been made with much more care and love than this. I mean, the original Anime was fine-ish and hey I'll even say those 3 movies were fine too overall compared to these things.
@Rando Exactly, that's why good adaptations are needed, that's not to count people that have a deep issue with reading like dyslexia, which i have a small degree of. Didn't prevent me from reading it, but still. And hey if you like the thing, still, give it a try, sometimes you dont need to read all the words, just the key points, you flip through pages quickly that way, key points + the visual art really takes you far in mangas. Tho, dont read on bed before sleep, i started doing that and now whenever i read a manga my brain goes ''time to sleep? here get sleepy''.
19:17 wishing I had watched this video before I did my Honor's Economics 201 project. that would have been a great article to cite the elasticity of demand in the anime market.
Even if for a few moments, I was incredibly pleased listening to the Kaine(Salvation). After playing and loving so much of the Nier franchise I can definitely relate to including this song into that specific part. Thanks a lot, you've made my day!
Part of the trouble with freeze framing is that it looks super weird when a 3d model is not moving even a little bit but a 2d picture does not have that problem. Even in scenes where freeze fram is warranted, the characters should have had at least some kind of idle animation so that it wouldn't look as jarring
I don't know if you've checked out the motion comic yet, but it's pretty good. Honestly, I sometimes wish we'd get a Berserk OVA series (an hour to two hour long OVA covering an arc would be nice) but I doubt that'll happen. At least for a while... Sadly.

Hearing about the issues with the 2D and 3D teams really makes you appreciate Howard Ashman. The reason the Disney Renaissance movies flow so fucking well, why every movement, every line, every twiddle of a finger, informs everything else, is because Howard looked at the segmented style Disney's production team was doing at the time and went "that's fucking stupid, you guys are all coming to me wondering how we can do this, or this, or that, how do we accomplish this, how do we make THIS work - here's an idea, TALK TO EACH OTHER!"
So the music guys, animation guys, voice directing and acting guys etc. all worked in tandem with each other, familiarizing themselves with how the other half lives and works, and building on their creative decisions from there.
If Berserk 2016/17 worked like that, we could've had something truly special on our hands
How could you make something like the Berserker Armor look that lame & not intimidating at all? 😂

To this day I still think it should've never had 3D animation in it. What was so wrong with just having the anime be 2D
because you can't render 3D manga designs into 3D animation. Too much work required, so 3D is faster, which is looks terrible.

Honestly the way Tokyo Ghoul Re and Berserk have come out, I believe it's just best to leave mature story-driven manga out of production until they get their shit right. Same thing I saw a bunch of people saying about TG, we don't know what the fuck is going on but it looks cool so we'll roll. These shows manage to pack like 5 chapters into 15 minutes what the fuck... If they're already doing seasons and planning to sell them like that, why would you stick to the TV formula which falls flat on it's ass on the internet, where most money is made? At least we have HIATUS
The illustration quality contained within the pages of the Berserk manga series is LITERALLY the greatest in the entire history of this medium across all genres(In my opinion). Do you guys agree or disagree? If you disagree, please leave a link if possible- I would love to see some of your examples of "Best manga art".

I know there's a lot of love for Jojo's Bizarre Adventures: Steel Ball Run, which is considered to be the best of the current parts.
My god rhe production of this show somehow sounds like even more of a nightmare than the final product.
Aye I’ve been waiting for this one! Your Berserk videos were some of the first ones I watched and it helped me get into Berserk. Love your vids.
I CLOSED E-HENTAI FOR THIS!!!!!!!
Pleb. Real people use exhentai
@@theblackgamer8103 So basic. People of culture use nhentai.
What are these hentai categories?
@@igamingmp1526 I think they're website but idk
real niggas use Hitomi Downloader
god this is so sad to see when the 1997 adaption looks so good and stays fairly accurate to the source material, sure some stuffs missing but i can only remember one instance being changed and thats in the beginning when they exchanged Puck for the girl that killed her father
I honestly kinda like how griffiths blade didn’t get blood there, it would be cool if he never got blood on it to sell him being “angelical”
It looked like a project me and my classmates made, where I was forced to edit it in 3 days because I was to shy to act as the director
I thought the Berserker Armor cut away to the still shot was an edit until you talked about it foe about 30 seconds. God it really is that awful
We need Guts in Mk11
Bruh that's like the best idea of all time
*Shao Khan:* Join my army, Black Swordsman. As my vanguard, you never suffer again!
*Guts:* I know my fate, Apostle. I will not be the plaything of causality.
*Shao Khan:* I admire your conviction, your spirit! But you will be mine, Black Swordsman. You will be mine.
Ew fuck sao fan
Just remove the 3DCGI staff and hire more people for traditional animation. Heck, Goblin Slayer was immensely successful and it is pretty much a Berserk Light but with a halfway decent adaptation. Miyura and big studios like SHAFT, KyoAni and MadHouse hate money apparently, can't they just learn that shit sells when it has a good anime? I mean the SnK manga is pure shit and it sells like hotcakes because the anime has some production value.
3D cgi is not the problem .It's the execution .3d toon shader anime can look good .Look at Knights of Sidonia or Godzilla monster planet .Those are great
Don’t forget the master of cgi houseki no kuni ;)
The CGI in "Karas" looked fucking incredible and it's old. It's not the problem with CG, it's the lack of experience and talent to pull it off.
This guy said SnK is shit... sir how???
@@Jay-hb3ix I think he's just talking about the art. But the manga is great regardless.
there is a specific song they used for the new series and i swear it sounds like the singer sings " GUTS AND.. GUTS AAND.. GUTS.. AAAND.. GUTS" and that threw me off multiple times.. you cant unhear it once its there..
Fr I hear that too😂 What are they actually singing?
@@rachelfairfax5709 no idea man
People keep saying to forget the golden age arc but I think it needs a decent fully accurate adaption. It is the set up to a great story and is an amazing story in itself. Give us the whole accurate story, why is that so hard?
Welcome to 2021, studio decided to animate "So I'm a Spider, So what?" Nothing has changed.
Can't tell whats worse, being in the eclipse and barley surviving, disfigured and doomed to oblivian. or watching berserk 2016/17
Imagine madhouse animating a berserk adaptation with mick Gordon and Susumu hirasawa doing the music
19:17 wishing I had watched this video before I did my Honor's Economics 201 project. that would have been a great article to cite the elasticity of demand in the anime market.
BUT the OST is nice, the only good thing about it.
19:05 omg he looks like he's being moved by a popsicle stick
Imagine a FAITHFUL Berserk adaptation done by Studio WIT or Mappa 🤤
Its their next project after AoT I bet. I bet Wit takes it too.
I BEG
Even if for a few moments, I was incredibly pleased listening to the Kaine(Salvation). After playing and loving so much of the Nier franchise I can definitely relate to including this song into that specific part. Thanks a lot, you've made my day!
Time to go on this ride again...
Please get me off...
Sadly.
The Wandering Struggler we already have the Golden Age Arc Trilogy OVA which is light years more decent than this shit anime
The Wandering Struggler something like hellsing ultimate, with the same animation quality, it would be amazing and it would be a success
@@deathcompanybattlebrother That's what I meant. We need something like that.
