Such a big day for Lost Cyclery! So thankful and appreciative of your support and good, positive vibes! Great video and can’t wait to collab on another ride in the near future!
I'm not the biggest fan of Gravelstoke's routes as they're either too pavement heavy (like the route in this video) or incorporate miles of trails that wouldn't be fun on anything less than a MTB. But that's in no way their fault, it's more an indictment of the gravel in that area, and you got to give them credit for the gravel community they've built.
Yep, agree with you. I've been riding in San Diego 42 years. The "gravel" here is better suited to a hardtail mtn bike. I feel that gravel riding in western states is generally tricky because it necessitates connecting paved roads with off road areas that are sometimes rutted and rocky. The rolling gravel and smooth dirt roads of the midwest and south that go for hundreds of connecting miles don't exist in most of the west. Qualifier there is "most of the west", not all, since there are areas out in the flats of AZ, CO; even MT, and WY can be ridden in areas with a gravel bike depending on your proclivity for comfort and the level of pain you're willing to accept. The tricky part of western gravel riding aside, it is nice to see cyclists on larger tires, experiencing a fun party pace, and piecing together road and off road routes. I'm sure it breaks up the monotony of long road rides, and reduces the stress of distracted aggressive drivers. Take care, happy trails!
Great storytelling and positive vibes. The Huell Howser of Gravel
