I moved here 36 years ago. Such an amazing place to live as a 22 year old. Was more expensive than where I moved from, but it was still manageable, as you generally earned more to offset the cost of living. Now, I'm just about done here. At my most recent job, I finally broke the 6 figure barrier, yet was still basically living paycheck to paycheck. Never came close to being able to afford to buy a place. Now unemployed again, and rapidly burning through my savings. No luck finding another job so far, so will soon be looking in other states, and I'm guessing I'll soon be joining the many others fleeing the state in the next few months.
Bought a house in 2001. Couldn’t afford it if I had to buy it today but it will be paid off in 5 years. Love San Diego and staying here after retirement.
I've lived in San Diego since 1958 and Miss Emily is not exaggerating. If you love parking lot traffic and , oh, if you go to the grocery store, you have to bring your own bags and pack your own groceries. Most small businesses are bankrupt here and shopping malls are closing up rapidly. I taught school here for 37 years and watched the dumbing down of the school curriculum. We gave up fishing on account of grossly polluted water from raw sewage coming in from Mexico. Fishing licenses are way too expensive here as well. I could go on and on but I need to finish listening to Miss Emily.
I literally never bring bags or bag my own groceries here. Traffic is not as bad as most other large US cities. Malls are doing better here than most other cities. It's all relative. Besides the Mexican sewage problem, San Diego is still a great place to live. It is just too damn expensive!
Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family...
I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second daughter. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks.

I am a Civil Engineer that graduated from San Diego State. All the cheap land for development was used up by 1980 but people kept moving in. When I moved out of California, Building Permits add 30% to the cost of a new house in San Diego CA. The permit for my 2700 SF all brick house on a 20,000 SF lot next to SeaWorld San Antonio TX was $5.
Great video !!! :)- I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 35 years of my life and I left California over 12 years ago because of the direction that California seems to go moving forward. UNLESS the politicians pull their heads out of their A$$ES, California is like buying a ticket on the TITANIC!!!!! Kudos to you and your channel and GOOD LUCK with that!!! :)-
Unfortunately in the past 10 years there has been many California's leaving the state for all of the above. I'm ready for a new life where I don't feel underwater every single day.
Also the Property Taxes for home owners is taxing many out of their homes now. A realtor friend shared that the only buyers these days are investment groups and developers and this is what’s having a ripple effect on rising prices causing assessment for even higher property taxes which ultimately hikes up rental prices. The high rents are actually reflective of the property owners ginormous property taxes & property insurance cost passed down onto the renter. It’s unsustainable …
The water (ocean) is also dirty! From Imperial beach up through Coronado and beyond, the water is heavily contaminated with raw sewage from Mexico. It's been an ongoing problem for decades but it's gotten worse in the last few years. So think about that before moving here. 😅
Thanks for sharing - that’s terrible! Do you think with all the development planned in the South Bay (resorts and convention center) they’ll finally do something about it? I head the air just smells of sewage all the time
Can't beat living near the coast in San Diego or in SD county. Most moderate climate in the US, hands down. East of the Rockies you have humidity which brings rain which is nice, but Summers are brutal, everywhere. Then, there's hurricanes and tornadoes, both of which are nonexistent in so Cal, though we do get earthquakes from time to time. However, I've lived in so cal all my life and haven't felt an earthquake in 25 years.
I’m a native San Diegan and that was an excellent rundown. I recently read how San Diego now has the highest cost of living, even higher than NY and San Fran, as you mentioned. I was very surprised but not shocked. Real estate prices are ridiculous and so is rent, even if you live in Southeast SD or another ghetto type of area. I make more than $100,000 a year, and although I’m not struggling, I’m not living like a rich person. I live alone and have to pay about 40% of my salary on rent. And although I don’t have to live in Encanto, I certainly can’t afford La Jolla or Del Mar. Car prices have also gone through the roof. I bought a new truck a few years ago, and even though I put $8,000 down on it, my payments were around $540 a month. And vehicle registration fees are ridiculous. I pay about $500 a year on this truck. Food prices have skyrocketed here, even for cheap places like Taco Bell. You have to pay over $10 now for a combo meal. I bought one medium combo meal recently at Firehouse Deli and it was about $20. And I hardly ever go to tourist places here because it’s too expensive. The Zoo, Sea World, Legoland, Safari Park,, etc. I feel insulated paying those prices in my hometown. You’re right about the ocean temperatures. The water is ice cold most of the year. And the waves are choppy. Definitely not resort-like beaches like in South Florida. And parking at the beach is impossible. And San Diego is not walkable or bikeable. And the trolly doesn’t go anywhere near the beaches. Bad mistake with the planning. And someone mentioned like a 5-to-1 men-to-women ratio. That seems right. The women here suck! They are very good looking, but they are spoiled and stuck up. They are unfriendly, standoffish, and kind of leery of being hit on because of the unbalanced ratio of men to women. I think a lot of this is due to the military bases which have a lot more men than women on them. Women here can be more picky and can pick and choose the better-looking and wealthier guys. So if you are good looking, wealthy, and highly social-oriented, you’ll love San Diego. If you’re a regular Joe type like me, even though I’m comfortable financially, although not rich, you’d be better off living in Texas, or Arizona, or Idaho, or more of a red state and not a dark blue state like California. I’ll move to a red state when I retire. San Diego is not a good place to move to when you retire. Your money will quickly evaporate.
I really apreciate your feedback! Average home prices are around $1M, so it takes a household income of about $200K+- but there are some great areas in east county where you can still get a nice home for $750K - or if people want to live closer to the city- buying a property with an ADU can help set off those costs - so many ways to make things work if we get creative. :)
Dude The thing about the women here is absolutely True!!! The woman here are Non Commital transitory Professional Ghosters at best. Even with Good looks, Wealthy, Blah blah blah the women here are a no go!!! I would have to import a girl from the outside to be here in San Diego. This place is got its perks but also has alot of downsides especially when it comes to dating. I am now dating LDR Phillipinas and I could not be happier. I am done with American Women period. I think I can almost say that about the entire nation seems to be that women are falling victims to the Liberation disease of false independence and entitlement which is a lie..Overall though San Diego has good places to live but you will need to come in with a huge investment to live here.
It's the same here. We are moving in two years. It's become incredibly unaffordable. I've lived here for close to 46 years. Another thing is that tech and biotech jobs are drying up in SD. So there is A LOT of competition for a small number of white-collar jobs now.
I'm appreciating reading the replies. Not a native, but lived here since '58 as a young kid and San Diego is sure not what it was. Too old now to move.@@TheSnerggly
New York has Wall Street, Bay Area has Silicon Valley - there are plenty of high paying jobs that can support the high cost of living in these other cities. SD has none of that. The only reason I’m still here is because I have a remote job that pays a NY salary. People who come here must either already have a lot of money or own a business. There are only so many high paying jobs at Qualcomm.
Very sad. When I first visited San Diego in 1976, San Diego was a very beautiful, clean, affordable city. It wasn't crowded, with open land, and clean, unpolluted beaches. It was a city where you could live very comfortably if you are retired. Unfortunately, like most people who are retired, like myself, can't afford or want to live in San Diego anymore. I have lived in San Diego for over 45 years, and I have seen San Diego become a very crowded and expensive city. I will be leaving San Diego for good, which I thought I would never leave. The quality of life in San Diego is not worth the price, including the weather.
You forgot to mention the terrible TRAFFIC in San Diego! I was born and raised in SD and now that I live in Arizona where I don't have to deal with traffic, it frustrates the hell out of me. It's not as bad as LA but its getting there. Also all the big Insurance companies have left California so even if you could afford to buy you can't insure your new home...Allstate, Farmer's, Statefarm and Geico don't offer new policies for homeowners! I have heard sales fall through due to buyers unable to secure homeowners insurance!
I can’t believe I forgot traffic! I’m from LA and it’s nothing compared to the 405 or 101 - but it has gotten a lot worse over the last 10 years 805 south is a nightmare
Mercury insurance is great for home and auto policies. Yes, gas is very expensive but every third car here is an EV (mostly Teslas). Also, traffic here is a bit dense during rush hour traffic but is not unlike all other large, densely-populated cities. I simply avoid rush hours. Water is expensive but electricity is $0 with solar panels, so that offsets the water bill.
Moved here in 97, was fortunate to find great friends, now I'm up in a mtn community. I do miss the ocean but not the pollution, trying to find some way out of CA😢
Yes! The idea of making San Diego a car free city is great in “theory”, but not possible with the way the county was built out - so now it’s just a major lack of parking issue - 🤦🏻♀️
Very nice video. Thank you!!! My wife and I have been in San Diego for 25 years. My 2 daughters were born in San Diego and are now 18 and 20 years old. They have visited these GREAT UNITED STATES and want to live only in San Diego. My wife and I must figure out how to make their dream come true - it will be difficult.
Purchase my house in San Diego for $46,000 1983. Our daughter owns it now I have a flat in the back. Purchased beach house in Oregon and 1993 $107,000. I doubt I could afford to rent and either locations today
When we moved here in 1958, my parents bought a 3-bedroom home 5 blocks from the ocean for $17,500. Big front and back yards. My brother now owns that home. He has made significant upgrades. The home is now worth something in the neighborhood of $1 million.
I have been living in San Diego, Grantville area for years and call it home. Although I agree with most of what you said, I have not been quite affected by it because I always find my way to succeed. I live by myself, and as a teacher, I live pretty comfortable. However, what bothers me the most is the lack of affordable housing that pressures me to rent forever, and the silly idea that affordable housing are tons of condos in tall buildings that takes away the beauty of the city. Whatever happened to clear air rights. San Diego is losing its charm.
Born and raised in SD since 1962 my parents bought their first house for $14,000 I bought my first house 2 bedroom 1 bathroom for $179,000 in old Chula Vista and my son's cannot afford a house because as she said the avg is a million....
I agree with almost all of your points! The one thing I would actually disagree with the transportation aspect unless you have a family or work remotely a car isn’t necessary. I took the trolley and bus for the most part from 14 years old to 20 and it was relatively easy the trolleys and buses come on time and frequent. It’s 100% doable you don’t need one but it’s convenient to have one forsure. All your other points were spot on though!
I lived in downtown of San Diego between February 2019 to June 2021. I lived in East Village on the 13th street. I simply loved it. It was so nice, great and beautiful. I worked in the VA in La Jolla. I have an opportunity to come back to San Diego again with the annual salary of 90K. I am not sure whether it is Ok to go back to San Diego. Is It worth it?
Hi! How exciting! Congrats on your opportunity! A $90k salary can definitely work in San Diego! It all depends on what your personal goals are - rent vs owning, location, are you providing for any family members or just yourself. I got your email and will connect more with you there - congrats again! 🥳🥳
On top of all this there is an invasive beetle that has killed the majority of all the beautiful canary island date palms that have been here for 100's of years. There is dead palms everywhere.
There is more cost effective apartments - 15 min inland - but if you want a place at the beach it will be $3k - but aren’t most coastal towns prime real estate?! 😁
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA 😅I am afraid the beach area is going to cost more . I used to live in escondido for less rent . but with the cost of gas and car maintenance , my plan didn’t work out really well . I ended up didn’t save much and the drive home was ugly 🥲
As a real estate agent you must hear stories around the shop of the older agents who collude between listing and buying agent get drive up prices of deals and therefore commissions. We have that partly to blame for inflated prices. And the real estate industry was sued and lost last year for their commision structures tactics. There response was to create some methods by which they could adher to the new rules while keeping up past behaviors in a round about way. No where in the equiities and bond investments market would you ever transact buy and sell of assets where you have to dole out the kind of fees broker, listing agent and buying agent resources involved in deals want.
@@historyguy5942 3 months out of the year its hot the other 9 months its nice! I can run my AC unit all day and our electric rates are not gonna kill us like SDGE or PG&E. Insurance rates are not bad either and all the big companies are still here not like in California where they left.
I live in La Jolla California, which is a very nice suburb of San Diego and across the street from me is Trader Joe’s at Whole Foods organic brown eggs at Trader Joe’s for $3.99 there are ways to get around some of the prices you stated. it is the best place in the world to live for weather and I have traveled all over. LaJolla is a very sleepy town, so it has that vibe unlike LA which is crazy. Proximity to skiing, Vegas, Grand Canyon everything is in driving distance ….. it’s crazy expensive man. It is the jewel.! And I am a conservative, Republican Catholic and attend Latin mass (which is extremely hard to find in this liberal Vatican ll era!) so I can tell you , you can still be conservative here as well! I thank God every day I’m blessed to be living here!!
Bottom line is if you want to be within 10-15 miles of the coast, you’re going to be paying through the nose and the value for money on real estate won’t be good. Areas to consider would be North County east of the 15, East County, rural communities, etc. where you can still find decent bargains by comparison. The biggest problem San Diego has that wasn’t even mentioned in this video is lack of high paying jobs that would support the cost of living. The tech industry is limited, finance and banking jobs are pretty much nonexistent, if you’re a doctor or lawyer you’ll be fine, but other than that the military and public sector jobs don’t pay that well.
That's because San Diego and I know most people hate to hear this is not a good union town number one number two it's industry real industry is very limited such as Port jobs that can sustain a port city it's non-existent because San Diego realized heavily on tourism so it's not an industrial or business savvy place like Los Angeles or San Francisco that can help sustain a lot of people So it is what it is San Diego will never be a great big city it'll always be this little town south of LA and yes LA has its problems but when it comes to industry they beat us by a long shot and that's sad
😂imagine someone accepted a job offer less than 100k and moved to San Diego thinking that’s a lot of money here .When he in the leasing office with the first month of paystubs after tax, and just at that moment , he knew , he….f up .
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCAyou accept a job offer, then you go looking for living accommodations and find out true costs, then what do you do cancel job offer and beg for old job offer back?
I visited San Diego in 1973 at age 12 and it was so great. We body surfed outside our oceanfront hotel and it was the only time in my life my dad let me buy fruit loops.
New construction homes in San Diego are booming . There were more homes were built here this year, than any year since 2017. This is easy to confirm. Yes, these are going for $900,000- $1.5 million for a basic house ( NOT a beach house)
Take it from divermike who learned to scuba dive in San Diego. The water is COLD. Divers need a .25 inch (or 7mm next size in metric) thick wetsuit. Surfers use a 2 mm to 3 mm wetsuit even in the summer and with long sleaves. Most divers who can afford them use drysuits with lots of insulation undernearth. How cold? I've been diving in 36F water in San Diego but that was 80ft deep. Typical is around 62F even in summer. In winter there's no laying at the beach in a beach chair, unless you have a fire going. Fire rings are common at beaches in San Diego for a reason. Ditto in L.A. but L.A. 😝
But don't get me wrong. I've lived all over the East Coast and the West Coast. San Diego is still my FAVORITE city of all. It has just always been expensive and now completely unaffordable.
You use a photo of a San Francisco cable car to illustrate a San Diego Trolley. There are thousands of photos of San Diego's trolleys. Why didn't you use one of them?
I moved here to SD in 1981. It's insane It's so exciting now! Wasn't even in top 20 back then. It was clean, too. Now, because realtors can get together to buy a house to keep the prices high. Rent is insane too. So, I agree thar I wouldn't move here now. Thought of moving out, but I've been here forever with my friends.
Number 11: Even if your rich, the stores near the urban center don't usually have a great selection. For that you should go further out where the stores also have room to expand a bit. Why doesn't San Diego expand a bit? Because then it would run into both military base and mountains.
How about Ocean Beach...omg! We have a guy who basically has set up camp next to our recycling bin and I keep calling "Get It Done San Diego" and nothing get's done! The police drive by on Voltaire but they don't drive in the alleys ( OB full of alleys) and that's where they set up camp. We pay ALOT in property taxes so very frustrating. But I must add...I do love SD everyone is very laid back and really just happy to live herebut homeless population is truly out of control.
Ah yes! OB is a "locals only" kinda vibe, and I love it! But the homeless population is a REAL issue. The streets/alleys smell like pee too.. 😭 But with all the issues we have, it's STILL hard to give up on CA (SD) - laid back vibes and tons of stuff always going on around town.
@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA I am not an "OB for OBer's only" person. I, myself have only lived here for 7 years. But as a former social worker it is beyond disturbing to see human beings actually IN our recycle bin when it is raining or hiding under the bin when it gets too hot. No one should live like that...
I was renting on 2nd and elm in I B for 1300 a month. Moved out in 2016 after they tried to hike the rent up to 2000,then they rented it to a military person for 2500 😂 edit: now its 3600 a mo for 2b 1b 600 sq ft and you cant even use the beach anymore. R.I.P SD
Yes, please don’t move to San Diego. It is horrible living here. I hate waking up to the same old weather every day morning clouds then breaks way to sunshine and warm afternoons please we do not need more people in San Diego. If it was cheap everybody would be here.
It offical in who's eyes? there isn't any reference to an external link to official mentioned that SD is what is mentioned here. Not that this wasn't good info, but starting off with the authoritative "officially" prompted me to search for something orffical. "When someone says something is “officially” a certain way, it means that it has been formally declared, recognized, or confirmed by an authority or through an official process. For example, if a city “officially” names a day as “Community Day,” it means that the city government has formally recognized that day for that purpose." hehe again good info though
Thank you! This was filmed Nov 2023 and at that time a report came out saying San Diego ranked #1 most unaffordable state - and everyone was talking about it - but I wouldn’t say “official”. Just being dramatic 😁
@@nadogrl I know - like I said above “being dramatic”. Gas is down slightly - always does right around election times - about $4.75 - costs me over $105 to fill up the other day - 22 gal tank
The worst part is the million dollar house you buy in SD is run down. You need to spend another $250k for the renovation after you buy it. If you want a updated property you will have to spend 1.5 mill to be in a regular suburban neighborhood.
cost of a home in Northern Virginia is about a million as well - i.e. if you want to be in a decent school district - not number 1 school but just average in Fairfax, and Loudon counties of VA, and Montgomery county of Maryland. Though you may get more home for the price - but you don't get great weather! Depends on your priorities. Lawns are the biggest point source pollution in the US - even more than farms. It is actually good not to have a lawn. Conserving resources is a good thing and better for the planet. California seems to be leading the way yet again. You don't have good public transportation anywhere except of NY city area -wanna move to Jersey city for a lower cost of living which is not that low anymore today?
Thank you for your comments! Appreciate it! I live in San Diego, and I love it here too - these are the 10 worst things - know before you move. I’ve got 20.+ videos on SD communities highlighting pros and cons. They average 1000 views and this one blew up at over 18k views- because people love negative news. It’s crazy! My IG acct is all about living your best life in SD and this acct has similar videos - but this one is the most popular by a landslide 🤣🤣
You may love it but people come here thinking it's all glitz and glam when it's really not. This video speaks truth that most people are afraid to say.
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA I live in North County and my design office is two blocks from the beach, design swimming pools, ADU's, landscapes all over San Diego County and up into Orange County in LA as well as Hawaii Texas and several other states. The blowing up of your video based on negativity is that the Trump MAGA, Fox News crowd loves anything negative about California. You'll see them posting it other places online any little nuggets they can pick up of negativity. Eggs at trader Joe's are only $2.25, same at grocery outlet or better, I don't ever pay more than $3 and gas has gone down now to $4.19 per gallon for regular. There are definitely "negatives" on high cost of living but plenty of people make the trade off for the weather and abundance of like-minded talented people so there are good communities where you find them.
@@gabrieln3613 Do not know where you get gas but I paid over Five dollars at Arco last week. One of the cheapest gas stations and two weeks ago six dollars at Vons for for brown eggs. We all know San Diego is great loc tion but for the people like you who have a high income you do not have to worry. For people with less income a lot of them are thinking of moving to Mexico to afford to live close to San Diego. There is such a big exit to Mexico they recently raised the amount of income required to move there. Unlike the US they have rules for entry to their country as they should. It is a shame that we are not more like Mexico.
Politicians have taken yet another jewel of a city and totally ruined it. I've lived in both San Francisco and currently in NP. It's a crime what's being done to this gorgeous state. Anything unique is disappearing and in its place are huge apt buildings that look like jails. No beauty, no architectural features. Everything is gray and black. And yes, the cost is outrageous. Your list is accurate and pretty much complete. What scares me is the majority of people walking around thinking this is all "cool". Wonder how they're going to feel when the effects of no border hit their neighborhood. We really can't afford to not wake up or roll over and just accept what's being handed to us. In other countries people unite. Here, it appears most are just concerned with themselves and what affects them personally. We really did let ourselves get dumbed down. Those who haven't I hope ask yourself what you CAN do, and do it. On whatever level. Wherever we are is our home. Protecting it is a main priority in my mind and heart. Thank you for putting out this vid! Good one!
I live in the Bay Area and its beautiful here because of the weather and the diversity, except the politics. We adjust the cost of living, like getting an Eletric car (Toyota or Honda) cheaper than Elon Must overprice car. Public transportation is better than L.A. and S.D. because we have the BART system. However, changes for the worst to Oakland and S.F. because of the homeless problems. I live in Fremont (hospital city) because me and my wife are health care workers. All of my kids went to public school and they all (3 of them) finish college with my oldest just passed her Bar exam. I do agree with you that California needs be better again.
Sad. I lived in PB in the mid 80s and loved the area and would love to live there again, but sadly, there is just no way I can afford it. No wonder homelessness and crime is through the roof. How on earth did Newsom get re-elected?
Same here! Love PB! Just spent the day at the beach at the end of Diamond yesterday - I told my kids if I had a magic wand and could love anywhere (money wasn’t an issue) it would be back in PB). But sadly we’ve totally been priced out. A fixer upper home is $1.5m - like 900 sq ft - a regular home in PB is like $2.2m+ 😝
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA I live in Atlanta, and median priced homes with the same square footage will run you around $200k...that's high IMO!, but $1.5 to $2.2 is clinically insane! I have no clue how any average person can afford that. I have been doing some research and have located apartments in PB that are a little over $2k a month for rent, but are quite small of course. I "could" potentially swing that, but the cost of everything else makes it prohibitive.

I moved to SD from LA in 05. It was paradise back then. You could still bring a portable fire pit to Ponto Beach, ride bikes though Camp Pendleton, get 2 beers and appetizers for under $10 at PB Bar & Grill, and there were actual DJ's playing had picked music on the radio. Those are all things of the past. Now, SD on on the verge of the suck that LA is famous for.
I lived in LA all my life, and moved to SD for 10 years. The cost of everything in SD has tripled. You could move to El Cajon, San Ysidro or Jamul... but they aren't SD. They are more like Palmdale or Victorville (desert and low income)... a house there will cost you 750k... if you are an illegal, then you can scam the system like most do.. get welfare and section 8.. while working under the table and living 7 to a house.. you see that ALOT in San Ysidro, National City and Chula Vista.. OR you could move to TJ.. and cross the border each day.. TONS of people do that. It's what I want to do in fact
It is not cheap to live in SD - that’s for sure! There are more affordable communities where you can rent a home for $4k and apartment for $2k. But if you’re looking to be close to the city or beach, prices will be higher (but that’s true for any major city). I don’t think people choose to live in SD because the cost of living! 😆. More like lifestyle and weather! We can be outdoors year round and lots of things to do! Beach, bay, lakes, mountains, hiking, skiing, great night life, tons of street festivals, it’s all about the lifestyle / and it comes with a price tag!
You are right, it is just too expensive to live here. I have lived here in San Diego my whole life. I have seen all of the changes that have happened. Right now California is too Woke and too many Democrats. . I do realize my statement is very political. I used to run a small business here in San Diego. Not anymore, California has to many taxes and regulations . I am married and have 3 kids. I do not see how any of my kids can live here. Thoughts?
Agree, there are issues everywhere - just sharing the issues I’ve experienced here - I still love SD and raising my family here - but it’s not for everyone
Every City , State and the Nation is in 3rd World status because of Democrats...Democrats Destroy everything they touch...and I am a life long Independent Voter ...and Yes the GOP is Not Perfect but they Put America and it's Citizens First and go after Crime unlike Democrats with Wide Open Borders and Border Czar Harris is to Blame along with every other Democrat.
Longtime resident of SD. The median rent for all bedrooms and all property types in San Diego, CA is $3,095 (2024). That includes apartments, condos and homes. Apartments do not cost $5,000-$6,000 a month (unless it is close to beach or Gaslamp quarter). Apartments (2 bedrooms) in good neighborhoods can be had for $2,500 month/ or even a little less. Gas is expensive--high 4's but average most times of the year right at $5/gallon. Ah, buy a hybrid. They get 50 miles/gallon, cutting the cost of gas basically from $5 gallon to $2.50 gallon. Eggs don't cost $8-$9 a dozen. During the bird flu pandemic, when egg prices where high (around the country) you might have paid $5 dozen. You can buy a carton of 24 free range chicken eggs at Costco here for $5 (or $2.50 dozen). SDGE is expensive, but you don't need to run your heat but a few days/couple weeks a year--so, your SDGE bill is about maybe $250 in winter and summer....she already told you, get solar and its about like it was (or less) than in winter. Always drought? Not for the past two years and looking forward. It was snowing in California into June this year. Watering lawns--most people have drought resistant plants and landscaping which cuts H20 use WAY down. My wife took/takes the bus to work everyday to avoid paying for parking downtown. She drives 1.5 miles and parks (free) on the street and took/takes the bus to and from work (her work pays for the price of her bus pass). I drive less than 20 miles a day to work and back (with my Prius, that is a cost of about $10/week). And it goes on and on. This women is bound and determined to stretch out the worst possible senecios about the price of living is SD as possible for some reason. All I can say is I hope it works, because I don't really want anymore people moving here. BTW, It's absolutely gorgeous here. The beaches are beautiful, the bay, the best baseball stadium in all of baseball. The gaslamp quarter--great dining--great entertainment. And, those state/property taxes--they pay for great infrastructure, like roads, bridges etc. The city is clean and has low crime. It's the 8th largest city in the US, and it is arguably the most beautiful city in America.
"Curious" my ass... those that start a statement with that word, are NOT Curious, just jerks trying to use a word that makes them look open-minded. Closed-minded Jerk.
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA idk , don't live there anymore, but what I remember is it would get hot but not that bad, it wasn't really needed. Left there in mid nineties
I live in Rancho Bernardo. You need air conditioning in Rancho Bernardo and Poway unless you enjoy the heat during the day. It cools off at night though. Most homes in the inland area have AC. Your house was probably one of the exceptions.

Yes, please don’t move to SD. Let’s stop the further congestion. Thanks. 👍🏼
💯
She speaks facts. Regardless, California has no problem making up ways to take your money.
Thanks.

Lived in San Diego for 35 years, sold everything and moved to Mexico. Best move I ever made....
Thank you for sharing - it’s true - it’s all built out
Democrat politicians keep adding more regulations and permits.🤯
My wife said car registration was a flat $40 in Pennsylvania when she moved to SD in the early 2000s.
Thanks for sharing! Where did you end up moving to?
I was thinking to move to California...thanks 😊
SD also has the highest gas and electric costs than anywhere in the US.
Painful
Yes, and that water bill is much higher than quoted here. In the summer months I routinely pay $600/month for water, more than electricity.
I live in San Diego. You must have solar or you will have a $600-800 SDG&E bill.
Unfortunately in the past 10 years there has been many California's leaving the state for all of the above. I'm ready for a new life where I don't feel underwater every single day.
I moved here in 92, you could by a small house within a mile of the beach for less than 250k
That's what my parents did in 1986, now it's worth 1.7m
I head the air just smells of sewage all the time
It's like swimming in a big toilet. 💩
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA maybe. I'm not holding my breath though. They've been trying to fix it for decades. If they do fix it that would be awesome.

South=dirty, but north of Point Loma is clean.
You should have started with Governor Nuisance... biggest problem with living anywhere in Commifornia.
You forgot the traffic. Seems like it has become really difficult the last few years.
I’m in love with SD❤ Moved here in 2019 🎉
good luck i hope you are rich and patient
I’m from LA and it’s nothing compared to the 405 or 101 - but it has gotten a lot worse over the last 10 years
805 south is a nightmare
Everyone in my San Diego neighborhood has reasonable homeowners insurance. Those insurance nightmare stories are a minority of homeowners.
Yep
@econ0003 State Farm recently stopped writing new home policies.
Moved here in 97, was fortunate to find great friends, now I'm up in a mtn community. I do miss the ocean but not the pollution, trying to find some way out of CA😢
What are they NOT LEARNING? SOMEONE NEEDS TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS IN THESE SCHOOLS TO TEACH HOW TO AVOID
I've lived in South Park for 30 years, she is spot on about parking in both NP and SP. Tons of apartments with 0 parking too.
Yes! The idea of making San Diego a car free city is great in “theory”, but not possible with the way the county was built out - so now it’s just a major lack of parking issue - 🤦🏻♀️

I live in San Diego, and I approve this message
I’m born and raise in Hawaii all my life pay more than all you folks put together just to keep it together here thank you
Born and raised in SD since 1962 my parents bought their first house for $14,000 I bought my first house 2 bedroom 1 bathroom for $179,000 in old Chula Vista and my son's cannot afford a house because as she said the avg is a million....
Parking is horrible! Can't believe they built that huge apt complex on El Cajon & Park without any parking! It was already bad in that area!!
Blame the state for that. They are pushing for high density apartments with inadequate parking if within one mile of mass transit.
That’s insane! I thought they underground parking or something there?
If you are referring to the Winslow it does in fact have an underground parking garage for both the complex and the CVS.
shes not lying, Im in SD every week and a small 40 year old house is worth 1 mil

When I meet some who moves here I say WHY. San diego is a difficult place to live
New construction homes in San Diego are booming . There were more homes were built here this year, than any year since 2017. This is easy to confirm. Yes, these are going for $900,000-
$1.5 million for a basic house ( NOT a beach house)
Been here since 1972 . Awesome Weather Awful traffic and cost of living is getting pretty bad
You use a photo of a San Francisco cable car to illustrate a San Diego Trolley. There are thousands of photos of San Diego's trolleys. Why didn't you use one of them?
Ugh! Not my intention at all! I didn’t catch that mistake the editors made 🤦🏻♀️

The homelessness is plaguing the city. It’s gotten worse in the last 5 years to the point it ruined many parts of town. Sad!
It has gotten SO MUCH WORSE for sure! And it was bad before in DT, but now we have tent cities throughout the county - so sad
The water is too hot in Florida. Its like bath water. It doesn't cool you off.

Those people your complaining about love living there too.. unfortunately their bank account doesnt have the required amount of 1's and 0's..

Yes, please don’t move to San Diego. It is horrible living here. I hate waking up to the same old weather every day morning clouds then breaks way to sunshine and warm afternoons please we do not need more people in San Diego. If it was cheap everybody would be here.
It's actually does have too much good weather.
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA- But you actually DID say official, so…
@@nadogrl I know - like I said above “being dramatic”. But this is the report- In 2023, the "Cost of Living Index" report published by the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) ranked San Diego as the most expensive city in the United States. The report highlighted the high costs of housing, groceries, and utilities as significant factors contributing to San Diego's top ranking. The index takes into account various living expenses, and in 2023, San Diego surpassed other traditionally expensive cities, such as New York and San Francisco, in overall living costs.

Dont forget about the beaches always being closed because Tijuana sewage contamination
This is true! It’s South Bay that gets affected most - I just learned OB has been closed for over 900 days?!
The rich areas have great schools. The parents can raise $ for anything - but that's true everywhere!
I would have replaced #10 with very poor job opportunities/pay in relation to the cost of living.
I live in San Diego and our main problem is government.
I just did a Walmart search for San Diego and a gallon of milk is $2.68 not $5-$7 unless you’re shopping at Whole Foods
@@monicamartinez6049 I was quoting regular grocery stores in San Diego - Alberstons, Vons or Raphs. Organic is $7 and non-organic is $4-$7- this was filmed last year - but I just did a quick search and that is today’s prices at our local regular grocery stores. Gas is down slightly - always does right around election times - about $4.75 - costs me over $105 to fill up the other day - 22 gal tank
Miami enters the chat
Miami in the house!
This video is spot on!
What a true and refreshing video.
The worst part is the million dollar house you buy in SD is run down. You need to spend another $250k for the renovation after you buy it. If you want a updated property you will have to spend 1.5 mill to be in a regular suburban neighborhood.
It’s so true! $1m fixer uppers in SD
I moved to San Diego from Ohio 22 years ago. Love it here and never going back
Yes please don’t move here. If you’re not from here. Born and raised please go. Thank you😂
Mexico also has Full Service Gas stations.
@@brucerobeson6760 I love Mexico!
@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA It's the "Amigo Country", ( slow days, fast nights)!!...
I worked 7 days a week just to be broke at the end of the month. I am a single person
I’m sorry to hear that - I wish you the best in your new chapter in NV!
cost of a home in Northern Virginia is about a million as well - i.e. if you want to be in a decent school district - not number 1 school but just average in Fairfax, and Loudon counties of VA, and Montgomery county of Maryland.
All good points!
This video is way too negative. San Diego is a wonderful place. I've been here for 25 years and I love it.
Wonderful for rich people. Too many homeless people say otherwise
@@artbytar1 yes, apartment rentals are more attainable - food and gas are higher here - and car ins. But living in PB is like living in a vacation town year round. Don’t need to spend much money to enjoy life there! Beaches and Bay life! 😍
@@LIVINGSANDIEGOCA I remember well! I made just a little over minimum wage back in the day and had a studio apartment that used to be a garage! But it was like living a year-round vacation there, and I was a couple blocks from Crystal Pier. ☀

East Village is promoted as a fun, vibrant area. In reality it's dirty and dangerous.

Sounds so familiar to my experience - I came down in 2001- moved to PB it was the best! Nothing like it
The fire pit ban is ridiculous. I got a fine last week for having a portable fire pit at La Jolla Shores.
San Diego is a transient town ruined by outside money. They visit, they stay, they gentrify.
No SD is about 2500 to 3000 for an ave apt
It is not cheap to live in SD - that’s for sure! There are more affordable communities where you can rent a home for $4k and apartment for $2k. But if you’re looking to be close to the city or beach, prices will be higher (but that’s true for any major city). I don’t think people choose to live in SD because the cost of living! 😆. More like lifestyle and weather! We can be outdoors year round and lots of things to do! Beach, bay, lakes, mountains, hiking, skiing, great night life, tons of street festivals, it’s all about the lifestyle / and it comes with a price tag!
Spot on.
Thoughts?
Just like almost every big city, we’ve been overtaken by Democrats…so sad to see our beautiful city (and state) going down…all by intention.
These are the problems in any big city in US.
I appreciate your comments! This was recorded in Nov 2023, the eggs I buy are $8 a carton at Albertsons - I need to switch to Costco I guess!
Literally, the most overrated, overpriced city in the world. Everything goes up but the salaries
