    Thanks for sharing. I noticed a lot of people don't keep the rice water. In SE Asia we usually keep the rice water and use it for watering the plants. It has some nutrients so it feeds the plants as well. Don't waste it.

    Thanks for the tips. I do find it easier to put the measured rice in a screen-type strainer and rinse under running water until it drains clear. You can then just dump the washed/strained rice into the Instant Pot and it cones out cleanly, no lost grains.

    I’ve never used the swirl method but have always used my hands to wash the rice in water before draining the water. Also it helps to soak the rice for about half hour before cooking. It shortens cooking time and makes it more fluffier and flavorful.

    I use Binder Spring Clips and clip it to the lip of the Inner Pot, at top. Then position pot & clip to fit into slots where the lid would normally go into. The clip keeps the inner pot from turning while stirring or mixing, thereby cannot accidently burn fingers. Enjoy...

    I got an 8 quart instant pot today (October 15/20 , from daughter from Virginia. I’m from Niagara Falls, Canada. Due to the lockdown we are unable to travel there. So I’m watching your instant pot instructions and I learnt how to cook rice. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. I’m going to start using my instant pot from tomorrow onwards. I’m a vegetarian in the sense I eat little dairy products only. Maybe eggs in baking cookies and cakes only. I love my ghee so I cannot be a vegan. Anyway I’m going to check all your other recipes. Your video is the first one I’ve seen where the teacher actually uses the rice button ! Would adding butter keep it from sticking to the bottom ? I like buttery rice and salt in my rice when I cook it on the stove. Why don’t teachers for PCers not use them ? Thanks !

    • @DadGotThis
      @DadGotThis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing is the rice button is nothing more than a set time. It doesn’t change anything else on the settings. So you could use the manual button just the same. Yes rice and salt would flavor the rice. Not sure about sticking. As it sits on warm all rice will stick because the bottom is being baked by the heat.

    • @JackieDannenberg
      @JackieDannenberg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dad Got This I’ve ordered a non-stick pot to go with it. Hope that helps me. I have a Ninja Foodi that has a non-stick pot. I really like it. Thanks for answering but what about butter with the rice ? No ?

    • @DadGotThis
      @DadGotThis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think even with butter it will eventually stick if you leave it on warm. If you take the rice out right when it’s done there is almost no sticking with the stainless pot.

    Hi, I never get my rice perfect. Now with the Instant Pot with the "Rice" button, I'm ready to give it a try. Just one question please. You said to add 1/4 cup more of water to the 1 c of rice. I saw that you used 2 cups of rice, but just ONE extra 1/4 cup of water. With using 2 cups of rice, doesn't it take an extra 1/2 cup of water because you are doubling the rice?

    • @DadGotThis

      Nope. It’s weird but it’s always just that extra bit no matter how much rice.

    i use a electric pressure cooker i still need to test out more options but i rised my rice 2 times then i put some salt and fill it up with water that is 1'' inch over the rice then i cook it until the water is at a high boil for 2mins while stirring it then turn it off and put the lid on for 10mins then now remove the lid and remove it from the cooker and fluff the rice and it should look tasty also tip; better results if you don't make too much

    I used to have the rice come out really well from the instant pot, but i think it was basmati then. Now i am using Thai jasmine rice and it came out very wet. It always sticks to the bottom too no matter how soon i get the rice out, with all types of rice. I lose like half a cup of rice each time! Its an instant pot duo mini. It has a rice button. Should i oil the pot?

    • @DadGotThis
      @DadGotThis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oil in the pot will affect the taste. If that doesn’t bother you it could be worth trying. As long as I was the rice and do a 1-1 water to rice ratio with a touch extra it always comes out great without it. Getting the rice right away always helps for me also.

    If you get a net / mesh strainer, the rinsing is super simple, especially if you have a spray nozzle on your sink. Then you just rinse the rice, shake the strainer a little to remove the excess water, turn the strainer upside down over the instant pot, and tap ... all set. Don't have to do it 3 times. Just rinse till clear.

    I'm pleasantly surprised that someone else uses my water/rice ratio. I too add a 1/4 cup additional water. However, I do not rinse the rice. I toast the rice and seal the grains with a little oil like you do with a pilaf. This prevents the starches from exploding. My rice is never sticky or clumpy. My Instant Pot rice option defaults to 12 mins not 10. I wonder why. I go with the 12 mins and a slow release and the rice is perfect.

      Yes less water would make it less clumpy. Also it “dries” out a bit as you leave it open too.
