    I totally agree with this advice I've heard similar things from people who work in medical school admissions offices. It's definitely good to do what you're interested in and then to supplement that with some exposure to healthcare like volunteering or something, but it should be done because you love healthcare and are passionate about being a doctor. Not just because you want to get into medical school

      Paul Mallory Then how come medical students perform equally well on average regardless of what they majored in? Keep in mind that all applicants have the same prereqs of bio, chem, physics, and orgo, even if you majored in something like English. Those English majors, however, have better english skills on top of their prereqs. This could explain why humanity majors score better than bio/chem majors on the mcat and have higher acceptance rates on average. If you want the official stats just comment, but you can find them online.

    This video gave me confidence in what I want to do with my life. I’m 24 years old, recently out of the military and trying to decide what degree to pick and hopefully attend med school. Thank you for this

    I tell this to my undergrads who are tracking toward Medicine and Law. People always argue against me...even practicing doctors...

    I am going into my first year of my biology major I hope I made the right choice, or should I have taken neuroscience.

      take your premed classes then switch to engineering. If you don't get accepted to medical school and your degree is in biology that will be the end of you. The only solution will be for you to go for a masters degree before applying to medical school which takes 2 years to complete.

      @@AfroMedic hi, this is super late but i saw this comment and was wondering what you meant by "switching to engineering". i am an aspiring pr-med and want to major in either neuroscience/bio/psych but biomed engineering seems appealing, though I know i wouldn't be able to handle it along with pre med reqs.

      Angela Bylina I just completed my associate degree in chemistry so now I’m transferring to get my bachelor in chemistry this fall. I thinking if you study engineering you will have low gpa and ruin your chances of medical school, but if you study chemistry you will have other options like doing a masters in chemical engineering if you change your mind about medical school. You can also apply to PA school with a chemistry degree.

    Would going into bio // Chem related sciences be a bad idea then? Since I'm not really standing out. Because I am interested in these subjects but I don't wanna seem like anyone else

      Look into Medical Laboratory Science.

    • @jackiet7970
      @jackiet7970 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think it'd be a bad thing. Have you thought about majoring in Physiology? The first year gives you all the required Chem, Bio, English, and Math/Statistics courses for med school. It then teaches you about the human body.

    I want to study bachelor of nursing and pursue a masters degree before going to med school is that ok?

    • @christinaguerrero9295
      @christinaguerrero9295 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d get your bachelors of nursing and than go to med school because getting a masters sets you back two years and it’s two years into medical school you could be doing. Especially if your residency turns out to be long. Having a masters in something won’t really change your chances of getting into medical school. If anything they’ll ask you why you did that instead of applying to med school straight away.
