I'm in a theater group and improv group, and I'm around the pronoun/gender people all the time. They only hang out with people with the exact same mentality, and that's because regular people get annoyed having to keep listening to complaints about gender. I love acting and performing so I tolerate it, but it does get pretty goofy when they need to spend 20 minutes telling people their gender. Just tell me your damn name and I'll call you that.

@Tom Henesey I call everyone "fam". It's gender neutral and no one gets upset. "Dude" is a generic title for everyone, and I've seen everyone using to when talking to friends. The problem comes from people assuming me not caring, means I'm against them. I seriously just don't give a shit what people want to call themselves.

He noted that even in the 50s, culture had begun to shift from celebrating the individual and their achievements in favor of the masses and their perceived flaws. A man who has achieved must prove each day that he is as good as he was, but when you give someone a problem, they're fixed so to speak, for life.
Mass media has compounded this. And it gets worse with each major communications innovation because as you said, it gives the lowest common denominator of every group a platform.
