  • This is my first look at the General Tools Moisture meter that retails at home depot for around $35. I used it to check some black walnut and mahogany I had in my wood shop and the readings seemed high. This unit is very easy to use and has a easy to read display.

Mine says 5%on pine in a cabin
It does say to get two readings by pushing the pin in about a 16th of an inch and then the second reading pushed it tips all the way in. I’m not really strong enough to get it to go all the way in but I’m trying

So, eventually all the moisture should become the same on all materials in the same space. (Unless there is active moisture somewhere.) Dry wood will draw moisture from higher moisture areas.

That happened to me with the battery too... thanks for the video. They say for painting it can be between 8-12%

Your not supposed to push prong all the way in? Have I been using it the wrong way all this time?

What should 0ak wood be as far as moisture percentage? You don't give important info.

you should stick it in end grain and hes letting it pull out before getting his correct reading

yeah I had to do a quick vidoe since I got it for free. I haven't really used it since but If i do I will use the end grain.

How can you review something you don't even know how to use?? You actually need to push the pins in more than just the very tip. That's why it's best to do it on end grain or somewhere you won't see the two holes!!

It would be advantageous to read the manual before using, reviewing and rambling.

There is no manual. He stated that in the beginning. Also, I have one and there is no manual. I was curious if my unit was performing similarly to other peoples.

@@customrefinishingSTL there is a manual online search MM7 , calibration is built into the cover that is removed before measurement
