My daughter is now 5 and when I see photos from the NICU it is a huge trigger. I also feel like I was there but wasn’t at the same time. I don’t remember a lot of those moments. I think mentally I blocked out a lot of it. 363 days in NICU and rehab. I finally brought my baby girl home 2 days before her first bday. It was THE HARDEST year of my life. You are not alone. ❤️
Oh my goodness I can’t even imagine… my son was in the nicu for 2 weeks, and it felt like an eternity. I can’t even fathom having to do that for a year. I do not know you but I do not need to; you are an amazing and strong person. Your family is very fortunate to have you.

you must be an angel! thanks for choosing to give of yourself to something so deserving! i am a nurse myself, i can tell you that even though you may have days that are so heartbreaking, hang in there because i promise you, the feelings you get when you help someone come through will way outweigh the hard times! being a part of helping suffering patients be reunited with loved ones is truly one of the greatest feelings in the world. it makes me feel like my “job” isnt a job, but an opportunity to actually do things to help the world! best wishes sweet angel briana! 🌈💗

i remember back when i used to watch your NICU vlogs and id watch them and cry with you, just seeing you sad and imagining experiencing that is just so devastating. i got emotional watching this and just seeing how much happier you are now. obviously having two baby twins is still difficult and im not at all undermining that but id remember watching your vlogs and just seeing you so sad and not with your babies. now we get to see flynn playing with them, you and erik playing with them and feeding them and just looking back to 4 months ago when your vlogs ended with you just wanting your babies. now you have them and its just so amazing. ur literally a beautiful goddess woman i love you

Tortilla Talk Question: What advice would you give to people who are having a rough time with pregnancy? Currently 8 weeks and, while I love and am so grateful for this baby, I have felt like a walking garbage can everyday for two months. I’m struggling.
I’m so sorry you are one of the unlucky ones. I had hyperemis for all of my pregnancies and nothing helped me but medication. I tried everything you can think of. Even medication only helped a bit. It was called reglan. I had to be hospitalized many times. It’s absolutely awful to have this. Very jealous of those who have wonderful pregnancies. Hopefully yours goes away around 16-20 weeks which is normal. Don’t be scared to rest and let others know how you feel. Go to the doctor and get meds if it is unbearable.

Let me tell you… NICU PTSD is real! 7.5 years later and I still can’t look at pictures of my sons time in the NICU. The time around his first birthday was really hard for me, but getting a good therapist helped so much!

Tortilla talk: Hi Colleen, so when the babies were born, they really didn't look like twins, you could really tell which one was which, they has such different faces and head shapes, but now, at least to me, they look almost the same. So, my question is, do you see them looking similar as they grow older, because I definitely do? Much love!
@@camille3086 Right? :D I know they are not identical twins and it made sense they don't look alike, but as time goes by they look more and more alike and I can't tell them apart if they are wearing the same clothes. :) I find it so adorable :)

I’m a college student just now figuring out I’ve most likely been dealing with this for years without knowing. At my high school in like 2018 we had an assembly and for international prematurity day (I think) all the premature babies in the school (that are now full grown kids) got up on stage with their mums and talked about their experiences it was so interesting and I’ve heard it with me since then because every single mum would break down in tears saying their own stories and hearing the other mums stories, and funnily enough most of the people up there were twins, anyways random story but I thought I’d share because I thought you’d enjoy xxxx

Thank you for being so open about your NICU experience. I have a fraternal twin and we were born at 28 weeks gestation. We were born in the nineties and focuses on parental health and post NICU care was virtually non-existent. I did really know my mother's pregnancy jouney and tramatic birth until my mid-twenties. I realize that my parents never processed that tramatic experience. Watching you through this experience with twins has been healing for me and some strange way. Sending love your way ❤️

Every year I have my son take a picture with his NICU picture on his birthday. It shows how much he has grown and how far he has come since those days. The NICU was our second home for 111days and the nurses were the best.
My daughter is almost 3 and I still have trouble looking at NICU pictures! Also, after having a very traumatic birth, her birthday is also a really hard day for me. Definitely something I didn't expect! I'm pregnant with twins now and am hoping to avoid the NICU this time!
I didn’t have a NICU baby but her delivery was horrible for me and all the delivery nurses came to visit me the next day and they told me, “We would understand if you never want to do that again”. When her first birthday came around, I told everyone that we were celebrating my daughter and we weren’t going to talk about what *I* was doing on that day the previous year.
Tortilla talk: I notice that you end up getting a lot of gifts for Flynn. When Flynn gets older and goes to school and he sees that his classmate don’t get as many gifts, do you think he’ll notice that other people don’t get as much as he does? Do you think that he’ll get use to getting a gift for every single event and expect it as he gets older?

hi colleen! my boyfriend is a twin and he came at 28 weeks, him and his sister could fit into their dads' hands, each just the size of one of his palms. anyways we recently went to go see his mom and twin sister who now has a baby girl of her own and his mom showed us his premie tiny diapers that were just a couple of inches long and his little hospital tags and pictures of them all wrapped up in cords. they were in the NICU for 6 weeks so they got to come home before their due date just like yours! I could tell it was taking a toll on her showing us, like they were the most presoue but sad memories shed ever share with us. I talked to her so much about her own twin and NICU journey when you were going through the thick of yours and she said our conversations and my questions would help so much even all these years later, 21 years to be exact. it's such an awesome thing to see tiny little babies who can't even breathe on their own become adults who have their own babies. thank you for the comfort you provide others and the love you constantly give out from your videos. just to listen to someone's story and be able to relate to them is so powerful and you truly are doing so amazing. love ya!

I feel this so much. Whenever I watch videos of my son in the NICU, I don’t get triggered as much by seeing him, it is the SOUND of the NICU. all of the beeps and alarms constantly going off. It’s Swedish and instantly brings me back.

I feel this way about all NICU babies as someone who was a preemie and has lots of relatives and friends that have had tiny preemie babies they're so strong! I know it's hard Colleen but think about how strong and amazing your little ones are that they did come so early and now look at them so big and both doing so good! It's really incredible even the babies that have a hard start for whatever the reason. Also seeing how big they are getting is super heartwarming, the older they're getting the more they look like yall
Momma of twins here, I know exactly what you are going through with the bottles. Bottles with the drop ins changed everything for me lol My twins were also born at 32 weeks, they will be 18 May 30th and I still have a hard time looking back at pictures❤️❤️
Thank god the babies are save and big and healthy, so thankful to god and all of the amazing doctors because those twins look like the most cutest and sweetest babies, It sounds like a really hard time in humans life.🤗

It’s definitely hard going back to that time. My daughter wasn’t in the NICU, but she did spend the first 6 months of her life in the CVICU. All the same tubes and cords your sweet babies had and then some. My brain has completely blocked so much of that time. We are about to completely relive all of this. Mallory is 14 now and will have another open heart surgery in the middle of June. It, on some accounts, gets easier as the years go by. I do however still have triggers that cause it to all flood back. Most often is the smell of the hand soap use at our Childrens hospital. Prayers for you that time makes it easier. 💜💜
Tortilla talk question, how do you stay patient with Flynn when things get stressful? I have a 4yo stepson and a newborn daughter and I struggle to stay patient and not yell when the baby is crying and he's doing something he shouldn't or generally being difficult. I love them both to death but it's a lot to manage.
My boyfriend was born very premature. It is truly a miracle that he is perfectly healthy. The few times I’ve asked his family about it, I could feel everyone’s mood changed. I could tell they didn’t want to remember and just said it was the worst time of their lives. Seeing you go through it a few months ago helped me understand how hard the NICU is. But, hearing you talk about it now, made me realize that I was probably bringing up heartbreaking feelings for his family. Thanks for sharing your journey 🤍

This vlog resonated so much with me. I have a traumatic birth story and don’t like to see pictures of my daughter from the day she was born. But also, I have adhd and hyper fixate on food all the time! Currently I’m obsessed with a taco place that’s close to my house. We’ll see if I still am in 2 weeks.
I’m currently in the NICU with my baby that is 2 pounds! Having watched your videos really has helped me get through this time a little easier. She was born a month ago at just 25 weeks, she was only 1 pound 11 ounces when she was born. We’ve still got probably 10 weeks or more before she’s ready to go home, but I love seeing your little chunks to remind me that eventually she will be home and chubby! 💖 Also, Tortilla Talk question: what’s your advice for keeping up on pumping through the night while your exhausted from being in the NICU? I live an hour away from the hospital she’s staying in and pumping every 3 hours Is the biggest struggle.

They're not identical twins...fraternal twins look different, esp since they are a boy and a girl. But yes they look similar

I have a male twin (I'm female) and honestly we look nothing alike! He is 6'4" and has a beard and I'm 5'5" tiny woman 😂

At my high school in like 2018 we had an assembly and for international prematurity day (I think) all the premature babies in the school (that are now full grown kids) got up on stage with their mums and talked about their experiences it was so interesting and I’ve heard it with me since then because every single mum would break down in tears saying their own stories and hearing the other mums stories, and funnily enough most of the people up there were twins, anyways random story but I thought I’d share because I thought you’d enjoy xxxx

Flynn recently got a huge cockroach, before that you know he wanted a green Guinea pig! When his mama took him to the stores and said he could have any animal and darned if he didn’t pick the cockroach! It was hilarious the way he said cockroach!🐥😂

Thank you for being so open about your NICU experience. I have a fraternal twin and we were born at 28 weeks gestation. We were born in the nineties and focuses on parental health and post NICU care was virtually non-existent. I did really know my mother's pregnancy jouney and tramatic birth until my mid-twenties. I realize that my parents never processed that tramatic experience. Watching you through this experience with twins has been healing for me and some strange way. Sending love your way ❤️

Every year I have my son take a picture with his NICU picture on his birthday. It shows how much he has grown and how far he has come since those days. The NICU was our second home for 111days and the nurses were the best.
My daughter is almost 3 and I still have trouble looking at NICU pictures! Also, after having a very traumatic birth, her birthday is also a really hard day for me. Definitely something I didn't expect! I'm pregnant with twins now and am hoping to avoid the NICU this time!

I didn’t have a NICU baby but her delivery was horrible for me and all the delivery nurses came to visit me the next day and they told me, “We would understand if you never want to do that again”. When her first birthday came around, I told everyone that we were celebrating my daughter and we weren’t going to talk about what *I* was doing on that day the previous year.
Congrats! Good luck and hopefully you won't have to go through the NICU again and if you do only for a very short amount of time.

When Flynn gets older and goes to school and he sees that his classmate don’t get as many gifts, do you think he’ll notice that other people don’t get as much as he does? my boyfriend is a twin and he came at 28 weeks, him and his sister could fit into their dads' hands, each just the size of one of his palms. anyways we recently went to go see his mom and twin sister who now has a baby girl of her own and his mom showed us his premie tiny diapers that were just a couple of inches long and his little hospital tags and pictures of them all wrapped up in cords. they were in the NICU for 6 weeks so they got to come home before their due date just like yours! I could tell it was taking a toll on her showing us, like they were the most presoue but sad memories shed ever share with us. I talked to her so much about her own twin and NICU journey when you were going through the thick of yours and she said our conversations and my questions would help so much even all these years later, 21 years to be exact. it's such an awesome thing to see tiny little babies who can't even breathe on their own become adults who have their own babies. thank you for the comfort you provide others and the love you constantly give out from your videos. just to listen to someone's story and be able to relate to them is so powerful and you truly are doing so amazing. love ya!

I feel this so much. Whenever I watch videos of my son in the NICU, I don’t get triggered as much by seeing him, it is the SOUND of the NICU. all of the beeps and alarms constantly going off. It’s Swedish and instantly brings me back.

I feel this way about all NICU babies as someone who was a preemie and has lots of relatives and friends that have had tiny preemie babies they're so strong! I know it's hard Colleen but think about how strong and amazing your little ones are that they did come so early and now look at them so big and both doing so good! It's really incredible even the babies that have a hard start for whatever the reason. Also seeing how big they are getting is super heartwarming, the older they're getting the more they look like yall

How many people were doing a raspberry while Erik discovered he can’t? I know I was even though I knew I could! Hahaha! LOL! 😝😝😝
It’s definitely hard going back to that time. My daughter wasn’t in the NICU, but she did spend the first 6 months of her life in the CVICU. All the same tubes and cords your sweet babies had and then some. My brain has completely blocked so much of that time. We are about to completely relive all of this. Mallory is 14 now and will have another open heart surgery in the middle of June. It, on some accounts, gets easier as the years go by. I do however still have triggers that cause it to all flood back. Most often is the smell of the hand soap use at our Childrens hospital. Prayers for you that time makes it easier. 💜💜

Tortilla talk question, how do you stay patient with Flynn when things get stressful? I have a 4yo stepson and a newborn daughter and I struggle to stay patient and not yell when the baby is crying and he's doing something he shouldn't or generally being difficult. I love them both to death but it's a lot to manage.
My boyfriend was born very premature. It is truly a miracle that he is perfectly healthy. The few times I’ve asked his family about it, I could feel everyone’s mood changed. I could tell they didn’t want to remember and just said it was the worst time of their lives. Seeing you go through it a few months ago helped me understand how hard the NICU is. But, hearing you talk about it now, made me realize that I was probably bringing up heartbreaking feelings for his family. Thanks for sharing your journey 🤍

I’m currently in the NICU with my baby that is 2 pounds! Having watched your videos really has helped me get through this time a little easier. She was born a month ago at just 25 weeks, she was only 1 pound 11 ounces when she was born. We’ve still got probably 10 weeks or more before she’s ready to go home, but I love seeing your little chunks to remind me that eventually she will be home and chubby! 💖
Also, Tortilla Talk question: what’s your advice for keeping up on pumping through the night while your exhausted from being in the NICU? I live an hour away from the hospital she’s staying in and pumping every 3 hours Is the biggest struggle.

I didn’t find Colleen until she was pregnant with Flynn and I have been HOOKED ever since. When I found out she was Miranda and then watched her show I was SHOOK. It’s like night and day between her and Miranda 😄

I could not agree more! My son spent only a week in NICU and I still cry (actual songs cry tears the whole lot) everytime I look at the pictures (he’s almost 2) it’s just so heartbreaking to see our little bugs so vulnerable 😭 feel your pain, love to see your beauties thriving! ❤️
