Becky, I have been following you for years, from making soap to making chicken feed...I really appreciate you and what you have accomplished with your channel! We love you in Minnesota! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :) FUNNY ABOUT THE SUNFLOWER SEEDS! LOL Great sense of LOL
Becky, love all your videos. First time with chickens in our neighborhood. We have four chicks, no roosters, that are about to be four weeks old. They’ve been on medicated chick feed from the beginning. When would you suggest we begin transitioning them to your feed formula?
Becky mahalo nui thank you sooo much for your knowledge. I started with 24 hens on my 1/4 homestead sold out eggs everyday. So I added 50 chicks and a friend gave me her 12 hens. We get 8 doz a day and I have regular customers. Our hens are clean and happy. They are separated into 3 coops whom they grew with. Your feed has produced beautiful hens. They’re in coops most of the day and are allowed to free range around 5 pm and go back into the coop on their own at 6:30 Pm
Great content! We'll start sharing your channel to our clients who bought land from us near farm areas. They'll surely get awesome ideas from you on what they can do as an outdoor activity. Thanks for this video! 😊
Love your channel where you share your life knowledge and experiences, love it! PS... bought your chicken book, but have not had the nerve yet to make the plunge!
I love your posts! Although our winters aren't severe, but it can get quite cold. I used your directions and got eggs all winter! One change though as I'm not sure if I trust Kibble products. I'll have to look at the ingredients before I make a decision.
One thing I want to tell you that you are so beautiful ❤️ pls share some beauty tips also.... This proves that age is just a number....beauty at its extream...love from india . And you are doing great work.. keep it up
Hi Becky I just subscribed to your channel 😊 I have a question if I add the DE to the mix, can I still ferment it? Thank you so much ❤️ may God bless you always
I used to live in zone 8 in SC and we did not give chickens corn in spring or summer because it increased their body heat and we had temperatures in the upper 90°to over 100°F consistently for months. If the temps fell into the 80's we thought we were having a cool spell. I did feed my hens sunflower seeds and that never seem to bother them.I also gave them a lot of fresh melons and tomatoes I grew in my garden. I now live in zone 7 and we are already having temperatures in the 90s. I have started a new flock and they are only a month old and I am feeding organic starter but I want to transition to whole grains. I am raising Delaware's which are a critical endangered breed. I love them. My last flock was a menagerie of different breeds. I was going to start mixing rolled oats into their starter feed and I had purchased some black oil seed sunflower seed but now I am not sure about giving them that. I was also going to give them alfalfa seed or pellets. I am raising sunflowers, corn and buckwheat this summer for grain. I am an organic gardener. Any suggestions as to what to add to transition my chicks to a more natural diet. Thanks.
Hi Becky. I just bought your book. It's great! I have 2 chickens and they are 6 weeks old now. I am putting them in their coop and play area for a few hours a day now. My question is when should I start adding the DE either to their food or their coop and play area? I will be feeding my girls like you do. At how many weeks should I put them on that food. Thank you!!
Hi Becky, I have been watching a lot of your videos lately and have gained a lot of helpful information from you, thank you! I have one for you, hopefully you can help? We are in Australia and have recently bought acreage and have chickens! Initially we only had hens then we introduced a rooster to our chicken family around 4 months ago. One of our hens who laid daily immediately stopped laying and has not laid since. In the last two weeks the hen has stopped coming out of the roost, she was in there for several days and we chased her out, immediately the rooster jumped on her! She was absolutely starving, she stayed out all day and after eating resumed her normal day scratching around with the other hens. Every day she stays in the roost, we chase her out and the rooster immediately jumps on her. She is fine when out and about with the other hens and is usually always right beside the rooster and seems happy. The rooster is a good protector and all the hens seem to love him, we don’t know what to do with our poor hen who no longer lays and won’t leave the roost unless we shoo her out, hope you can help? Thanks
Becky, is there a brand of cat food that you recommend? I’m leering of purchasing kibble with a paragraph of ingredients. Wonder what you use…excellent video thank you for all the tips!
I personally don't trust any premade dog or cat food, I use Becky's mix with a tweak of freeze dried raw meat for protein, grubblies and I add vitamins to a separate waterer. Also, oyster shells and grit for them.
Maureen, does Becky give the ratios in her book? She names all the ingredients here in the video, but the only one she mentions the amount is the DE. Do you use equal parts of each ingredient?
I gave this mix to my chickens for the last month. They won't eat the oats. So now Im giving them the black oil sunflower seeds and corn. Also they are eating very little of their Dumor crumble layer feed. Something Ive always given them. Any suggestions? I love your videos BTW
I live in Southern California, and have rhode island red chickens. If I make your feed recipe, should I only add the sun flower seeds during the fall and winter months? I purchased your book BTW, looking forward to getting it soon! Thanks for your informative videos!
Hi Becky, thank you for your recipe. I was wondering if Calf manna would be an okay substitute for the dog/cat food. I'm find grain free cat food (NOT with chicken) virtually impossible to find in my area and if I do its 30.00 for 6 pounds at my local Petco.

I just lost my Sussex Light yesterday (so devastating) we think she had a broken egg inside her as four days before she laid a broken egg 🥚 with shell missing from the top, she laid 3 beautiful eggs after this so I didn’t think anything else was wrong! I’ve heard feeding the coconut oil might be good especially during winter after moulting when that are just coming back into lay have you heard of this?

let me ask a chicken waterer question we've always used the large plastic ones but they seem to grow algae relatively fast in the summer because the sunlight can penetrate them. thinking of switching over to a large galvanized one I know I'll probably still get some algae but are they better. my 16 chickens do go through quite a bit of water but a 5 gallon container will still last several weeks, should I just clean it out every few days anyways.
I bought a 30 gallon royal blue bucket then I drilled three holes in the very bottom and I bought those yellow chicken floating Waterers from Holland on Amazon. I drilled the holes a little smaller than the diameter of the waterer screws, use some plumbers tape and then I used a little bit of clear silicone on the outside.
I buy small blue swimming pools (Walmart or Dollar stores) for my chickens water & seeds. No algae in the water pools, no dirt in pool’s holding (food) seeds….. @ night I place another pool on top of seed (keeps seed clean & dry (rain) for next day.
*Can you please suggest probiotics for them.* I am concerned that one hen has possible vent gleet. Even with what seems the best husbandry and best diet. My ladies are almost a year old, started laying at 6 months old and the hen in question lays an egg almost daily. (Hers are aqua blue, so I can tell.) She appears healthy overall, she's actually the alpha, however her bum is wet every few days and when she's like that she stinks! 😭 Ive washed her and she's calm for that... please help!! Can/should I give yogurt everyday? Is fermenting the corn separately a good thing as far as intestinal health? Should I keep one, of the 3 waterers, with probiotics everyday? Ultimately should I isolate her?
@@steph6337 oregano is good for natural antibiotic and dewormer i did not insolate my chicken but i don’t let them drink from another water supply. I give them dry oregano in the food plus the water my was good in the second day.
Thank you Becky!! This makes so much sense! Our oldest lady who was born early 2020 has stopped laying eggs the past couple of months. She doesn't seem sick but she just won't lay anymore. I'm totally going to try this mix! We also just bought 9 chicks. We'll probably keep them on the chick crumbles for a little while but I'm excited to try this for them too 😊 thank you!
I have been researching this for a while. Dog and cat food, even grain free, have lots of fillers. An 18lb bag of the cat food you are using is $54.99 in my area, which translates to 19 cents an ounce. with 32% protein. A 5lb bag of dried mealworms or other larvae is 50% protein, and costs 37 cents an ounce. I'm wondering if it would be worth adding the insects instead of processed kibble? While the kibble gives you more in weight, the insect larvae is not processed, contains more usable protein, and using less may be equivalent to the greater weight of the kibble.
I think I will be using the mealworms or mealworms mixed with black shoulder fly larvae instead of the cat kibble. Did you end up using mealworms? How has it faired if so?
Goodmorning everyone❣ Hope you all have a wonderful blessed day. Thank you Becky for sharing what you have learned through out the years. I appreciate you 🤗

Is it okay to give the black sunflower seeds even during the summer?
I give it to mine year around.
Have you ever heard about using red pepper flake to boost egg volume and induce a more orange or red yolk?

because people dont know how to read anymore. they just listen what other people tell them.
Anyone know the music in intro
I started this mix with my chickens at beginning of year. What a difference it has made with them. My five year olds are still laying. They love it.
I’m so glad to hear it. My chicken mix is slowly catching on, ya!!!☀️❤️☀️
@@BeckysHomestead I have been telling others about the mix. Thanks so much for telling about it.
