    Great and true words from Peter about when they would get to the end of Suppers Ready they felt like they were actually touching and moving people. Of the hundreds of times that Ive listened to it I still get chills during the whole As Sure as Eggs part. its almost a religious experience complete with tears in the eyes and goosebumps Amazing.

    Funny how Phil said he loved going to see YES to inspire in him better musicianship for his drumming. In the SEBTP interviews the say how inspiring King Crimson was to them. Also I recently watched The YES Story doc where they said King Crimson was hugely inspiring to them. All the best prog bands influenced each other. Small world huh?

    • @arielburdett9871
      @arielburdett9871 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Also Funny how Phil was obviously a fan of bands like Yes, yet he took Genesis towards the end to (in my opinion!) a much more poppy, bland area that was about as far away musically as you could get from the grandiose likes of Genesis, Yes and King Crimson.

    The first time I heard Supper's Ready was when I went to see Genesis on the Trick of the Tail tour at the Montreal Forum 1976. I think it is one of the best song ever recorded but that's just me. To this day it still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. Have to disagree with DinjenPolesmoker. Although Phil's voice is great in some of the earlier Gabriel era songs they performed live, but how could it possibly be better than the original versions... Just saying...

    In England they still have the show "This Is Your Life", and they featured Mike on the show once. I want to make a Sherlock Holmes movie starring Genesis. Mike Rutherford IS Sherlock. Tony Banks would do for Mycroft, Peter Gabriel is the charismatic Moriarty, Phil Collins is Dr Watson, Steve Hackett... Lestrade? :) More seriously, love them to bits, but I can't really enthuse about the band after Gabriel left, Collins is an excellent singer, but it was like the mischief, and the colour had faded from the sound - for me.

    I like all the era's that Genesis went thru. From the Anthony Phillips stuff to the Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel era. On thru the commercial crap. Even in the popular era there is a lot of good stuff. You just have to sift out the chaff in the Phillip Collins era, but there was still a abundance of great music in there too!!

    I've loved Genesis for forever, and have all of their albums on vinyl - and love them as individuals, especially Gabriel, but I have to say that Tony really comes off as a whiny, tight, self-centred patsy in this interview. All of the others say "we" more that "me" or "I", whereas Tony seems to only talk about what he contributed. Disappointed.

    I know they tended to go in other "directions" from Abacab up. However, they had brilliant/amazing gems on every single LP/CD. Try "Home By The Sea" and "Just A Job To Do" from their self titled album. And, the FULL version of "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight", "The Brazilian" from Invisible Touch and "Driving The Last Spike", "Dreaming While You Sleep", "Living Forever" and "Fading Lights" on We Can't Dance. I can't offer anything from "Calling All Stations", due to the drummer not "speaking to me".

    Yea we just have to accept this fact unfortunately. Even phil sounded somewhat reluctant to take credit for the rhythm. I also find it funny that Mike criticizes the song for being stiff lyrically and not singing well...when in fact it compliments the feel of the song. The stiffness keeps it strange and dark. Yep...tony and mike were kind of always the strong voices...meh oh well. The music is and will always be amazing though.

    This is what really pisses me off. Unless a song is 2 seconds long, people don't have the patience to listen to it now. Yes, its 26 minutes long. What part of that stipulates it's a bad song? This society is SO obsessed with money now, that it's taken away all the value of everything else. People don't see the value in music as priceless art, so they're hardly going to go & buy it now are they? It's such a corrupt generation. It's no wonder music is either Rushed, Cheap or manufactured now.
