Peter Gabriel is one of the greatest musical minds to ever walk the earth. The Einstein of music.
PG's face has opened up with age, brighter smile, warmer eyes, less mysterious and more confident...
The older I get, the more I love this era of Genesis. Hard to believe they went on to produce such things as "We Can't Dance." Ugh.
"Mama" was so genius! And "Blood on the rooftops"...ans so much more...
+2mitchbrink ...cmon litlle a bit a sense ..we cant dance is a good album..but you dont sould compare diferent periods, ages a contents.
Its the same issue with queen ...Queen II (1974) vs The miracle 1989.( no changes of members)
Pink floyd Echoes (1971) a momentary lapse of reason(1987)
please think a moment

Very well said. Just because people change doesn't mean they went to shit. Phil didn't push Gabriel and Hackett out of the band they left on their own. Genesis never made a bad album they just went in another direction and blaming that all on one guy is childish.
Although Driving the Last Spike is a textbook example of efficient drumming and dramaturgy.
:))
I use to watch these interviews over and over. To have the guys look back, after their later on success. And, comment on their feelings about the albums, is amazing.
the gabriel years were amazing. i saw them at least 20 times from 72 to lamb last show. and gabriels first tour with fripp was great. foxtrot is a masterpiece. the new hackett stuff is also very good.
I mostly agree. Try to do Led Zeppelin with just Jimmie Page!.........?
Opposite: for me, it is some of the most spiritually uplifting, poetic, empowering, celestial music I've ever heard. And it lifts me heart, head, and soul. Interesting how one man's trash is another man's treasure. Peace!
Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks are the Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks of music.
That all depends which Peter Gabriel and which Tony Banks you’re talking about.
No shit sherlock!
That means nothing??
@@simonharding3109 It means they're in a class of their own. Usually this form of expression is used to compare artists to other artists, but this person is saying they can't be matched.
Nursery Cryme, my fav Genesis album of all...love every track on this record followed closely by Foxtrot
The first time I saw Genesis was a the Lyceum in London on a Sunday and it was one of three free concerts, the other two were Van Der Graff Generator and Audience, all Charisma artists. Genesis were already special.
Even with all of the issues the band has to address, Nursery Cryme turned out to be FANTASTIC album.
Steve Hackett is the secret genius behind alot of the Genesis sound .....
Yes and Peter Gabriel is the spîritual side of the Genesis sound
Sorry but Hacket sucks! Really sucks! He came to my country, Venezuela, a lot o years ago. He played just during five minutes and got out of the stage. No carisma, no educated with the audience. The guy is an asshole.
I know he's not a lot of people's favourites but I always appreciate Tony's almost dispassionate appraisal of Genesis albums.
I heard the old man tell his tale... :)
Phil is a great drummer.
Patience is needed for Peter to arrive at the point.
Thank you for posting. i've already seen the 10 minute abridged versions of these, but this is the great stuff!
You're making this comment with the benefit of being able to see Gabriel's entire career with Genesis.
Tony Banks's belief that Anthony Phillips was the group leader came about when they'd done one album and were about to make their second. At that time there was no such thing as Supper's Ready and Lambs lying down on Broadway.
At 4:00 Gabriel might be speaking of Phil Collin's playing on All Things... and Harrison pranking him.
Each master giving credit to the other.
One of my fav albums of all time
Por favor un alma caritativa que subitule.......
Thank you very much! I've always wanted to watch the full ones!
anthony phillips group leader? that must have been tonys perception back in those early inexperienced days and hes probably being modest,if there ever was a leader it was him and peter, the man is brilliant.
Genesis est indissociable de Peter Gabriel
Magic. Pure Magic.
Some of the comments are very ignorant regarding Peter Gabriel. You write as of he was some sort of prog god warrior defending against anything not prog when in fact he was never a big prog guy. His own music can't be described as prog and in his own words he was obsessed with David Bowie and Alice Cooper as performers.
To say that all Phil was about was writing silly pop songs is also ignorant. Phil just was interested in Motown, R&B and other things. So? Mike wrote as many pop songs with the band as Phil.
Peter Gabriel was always and still is Prog if you ask me
Phil was also into jazz and was before his injury a damn good jazz drummer - many of the early genesis grooves are based off jazz music and if you took the time to actually understand these musicians backgrounds u would realize they liked a fusion of styles . Prog just as jazz fusion was a mix of styles coming together , prog is very much classically influenced rock and jazz fusion is jazz based - adding other styles to the mix . From a solo standpoint Phil Collins has many more hits then mike and peter but who cares they all have made the music they envisioned solo and stayed true to themselves and all have influenced many musicians . Genesis as a whole are legends in and out of the band and they are all great musical influences to me and many others
Collins was also backing vocalist and a damn good one. Watch Gabriel on the live clips on TH-cam. You'll see them glancing at one another. They RELIED on one another. It's clear to me.
Good on ya.
Phil killed Genesis with his pop and ego...end of story.
I'm actually surprised to hear Gabriel recollect about the band having disliked the previous drummer's thorough approach. I know the band Yes were really into that sort of overly-analytic method. If the drummer had to go through every idea actually playing them out loud though, I could then perhaps see how that could get quite painful pretty quick, lol!
Gabriel absolutely brilliant - 13'10" ...
I love this album
Don't forget that how we, the fans, see Genesis and how Genesis see themselves from within is very, very different. Who knows? Maybe Anthony Phillips really *was* band leader, and took charge of many 'behind-the-scenes' stuff that we just wouldn't know about from merely listening to the album?
But anyways, I'm sure he's being modest regardless.
maybe ...as still the other members of the group consider him today,
like the Pink Floyd's for Syd Barrett :)
I love the raw, rough and ready sound of Foxtrot and the Musical Box. In my opinion, Selling England lacks teh raw sound I like and get from those two albums. Two great albums.
Great !
Thanks for these!
100 % agreement with your words on my side. :-)
Thank you
# Phil Collins and Steve Hackett have joined the band
I hope someone don't tell here that Phil Collins was the singer of the song called "For absent friends".
And Bedore Trespass, there was "Genesis to Revalation." :-) :-) :-)
well, I did forget to mention also; the soundtrack to "The Last Temptation...", positively amazing --
I have a rough time with some of Phil Collins choices later on in his career as well: considering he drummed on a lot of what is considered the "important " Eno albums, as well as Brand X, and I mostly hate all jazz fusion except Phil Collins oriented Brand X...
Genesis the Gabriel years were the real genesis.the pop trash afterwards makes me ill
Genesis didn't go Pop until after Steve Hackett left. Some of their best music was during the Collins-Hackett-Rutherford-Banks years.
progresive music ..all time ...of the Peter Gabriel greatt..
They have to be the most modest band ever to have existed, yet at certain times, they were considered pretentious!
I guess you've never heard Trespass
Thing is - without Steve it does not happen
Jjjaajjjajaa. Excelent joke.
What doesn't happen?
@@ocean686 the band - the sound - very few other guitar players could have fit in with them. Yet the rest of the band seem to take him for granted.
@oquatwo are they availiable in german, too?
Does anyone have this video with the spanish subs? D:
I'm been searching but I don't find it... and I'm really curious about what are they saying. TONY SPEAKS TOO FAST! -_-
That would be great
Uhm, hello?
Ever heard of Frank Zappa? Sun Ra? Karlheinz Stockhausen?
Look 'em up!
I'm sorry to tell you this, but Nursery Cryme is an album, not a person. Unless you already knew that and love it anyway! That doesn't make you gay, it makes you... mmh... recordsexual?
Steve Hackett composed Genesis Music with Tony Banks , proove just listen Solo Albums of Hackett its a JOKE `^LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Peter Gabriel really needs to smile more sometimes !!!! lol
jajaja
What an important observation. I 'll tell Peter next time.
The Gabriel years of Genesis make it kinda sad, to see their history as it went along, become a group eventually taken over by greed and fame. By the end, they were but a shadow of what they were when they started. Hmm... sorta like the Beatles!
The Beatles was your example? You've got to be kidding me. And lots of bands especially from the prog era went pop in the 80s like Yes and Rush. Queen which was proggy early on also went pop. Know your shit before posting son
Martrex296 STFU son, the Beatles got OUT of pop and moved on to other types of music. Never said Genesis and the other bands didn't go to shit. Learn to read asswipe.
Stephen Taylor your talking through your arse.
I disagree, i personally think he is one of the biggest "sell outs" ever, high thumbs up for his worldly, human rights, socio political stance - - - other than a few tracks on early albums and the whole of "Security" the rest is pop pretentious pseudo intellectual sell out crap in my view
It all started off so promising for them as a five piece, just a shame it all went sour.
