High bud, good to see ya!!! I lived in Vermont less than two miles from Canada in the green mtns. I lived there for 25 yrs until my boys went off to college. I've owned several jeeps, A J-20 pickup ( extremely rugged). Two Wagoner for my wife, A C-J 7 for me for ( getting to work). Two Waggoner over ten years ( wife). I used the J-20 to haul everything including 8 cords of wood to heat our house. Plus anything I needed to haul. My J-20 was a 1967, I kept it on the road for 20+ yrs, about every two years I had to do lots if cut & weld metal to it I also replaced the body twice . it had sheep 327 cu in motor built by Jeep it lasted as long as I owned the truck. Minor repairs like heads reworked rinds & bearings etc. Loved my jeeps !!! Love your videos!!!!
Had a 69 wagoneer back in the mid 80's. It was a complete rust bucket! Just north of Chicago, salt on the roads every winter. I think there was only one motor mount, (the other had rusted off), exhaust was... well, okay, there wasnt one really. Only the drivers door worked, and no the bsck window wouldnt roll up. Fun times in the winter!😂😂😂 Have fun, thank for the video Jamie!
I had 2 1970 waggoneers. 1 was a Buick 350 with a 3 on the tree, the other was a Buick 350 with a turbo 400 on.the floor. The second 1 with the turbo 400 was a dream off road.

Cool video! I love the old Jeeps, I've always had one around in some form or another, just bought a new Renegade this year! I've had several Cherokee's and a Wrangler. When I was 13 my dad bought a 68 wagoneer and we used it to haul firewood, it was my first experience with a 4 wheel drive, it looked just like the one in this video only the grille was a little different, it had the Kaiser 327 engine which I'm not very familiar with. I had a blast as a young boy running that thing through the woods!
Actually, the 327 was indeed an AMC engine, but as I briefly discussed in the video it was sourced externally by Kaiser-Jeep for the Wagoneer in ‘65-67. They switched to the Buick 350 for ‘68-71 (so maybe Mitch’s dad’s was really early production ‘68 or late production ‘67? Who knows… friggin Jeep.) The AMC buyout came in ‘70 and they started to tweak things, but they didn’t switch the Wagoneer back to the newer AMC 360 until 1972. Entertainingly enough, the Jeep line switched entirely to AMC engines, but they would then go to GM again for the 2.8 V6 to put in the XJ Cherokee and Comanche pickups for a few years.
@@DeadDodgeGarage it may have been a 66 or 67, it was a salvage vehicle, the wiring had burned on it, dad bought it just to use in the woods, rewired it and it wasn't titled or driven on the street, we used it and the timing chain went out and he sold it to a guy that needed the drivetrain, I remember it had the Warn hub's that you had to get out and turn to lock in. I always thought the wagoneers were super cool no matter what combination of whatever they had. They just rust out real easy especially in the rust belt where I am.
I used to see a lot of these on the road in northern NJ when I was growing up in the 1980s & even into the 1990s. I always liked the Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer as well as the Gladiator/J-10 / J-20 pickups. They were very rugged utilitarian vehicles with some nice styling. My landlord was was using a 1981 Jeep J-10 pickup with an inline 6 and a 4-speed to plow the parking lot for a while until he got tired of fixing it.
I think the trouble with newer SUV's is that many of them are so expensive that the owner would never dream of taking ( whichever one) off road for fear of expensive repairs.
So that's a bit of a "FrankenJeep" the body is clearly a 73 (or later) but it somehow has the Buick engine. Since they all used a universal case TH400 it's a straightforward swap. Depending on your future plans, I could use some parts.
Right, that’s what we’ve come to understand. I went looking for frame numbers but haven’t found them yet. This will explain a lot. The weird thing is it has clearly been that way for a long, long time. It doesn’t look like any of the body stuff has ever been apart, and if I didn’t now know that it doesn’t belong there, I wouldn’t have ever questioned the engine. Nothing looks wrong or hacked together. All of the factory emissions equipment appears to be there. It’s… weird.
@@DeadDodgeGarage so it's an easy swap. The TH400 is a "Universal case" so only the adapter ring needs to change for either Buick, AMC, Jaguar, Ferrari, or Rolls Royce applications). We have trouble getting anything like this over here and we don’t always want to use Rock or they don’t always have these sorts of items. Thanks Roy
I use a company called Steele Rubber for that sort of stuff. I can’t guarantee that they have what you need, but I have bought them for the Dodge trucks before. Hopefully they’ll ship to you!
I wanted a wise make sure you tie up those wires that go over to the alternator above the exhaust manifold we have one of those at a gas station that I work at that was a plow truck the plastic zip-ties the wiring harness place broke and Landon on the 20:50 exhaust manifold and burned in half
For now, make small improvements and tinker with it. Windows that work would be great. Tires are going to be essential asap. It should turn out to be a nice, all stock, drivable Jeep.
@@DeadDodgeGarage rest the song works as well. She needs a carburetor a set of plug wires, ridin you around in four bald tires. The wipers don’t work and horn don’t blow. Lol.
Haaaahaha. It’s certainly possible. Sometimes they read right and sometimes they’re just fully pegged. It’s a crapshoot. Eventually I’m sure the magic smoke will come out and they won’t read at all.
The truck I used for the hill climb was 360 powered! It just happened to be identical to the slant six truck I had later. It was also fairly gutless for various reasons. Haha. That’s awesome! I hope to do more. I don’t think they’ll ever do very well on the channel, but it’s something I really enjoy.
Was it just a tired 360? I feel like that engine should have made that climb. Of course it never looks as steep in the video, but I "want to believe" that a 360 could make easy work of it lol.
@@dantheadventureman it actually was a very gutless 360. I believe the cat was mostly clogged the whole time I owned it, because it had this cool feature where you would floor the throttle, but it would never make any more power 😅 it was more a question of traction than horsepower though. Once I opted for wheel speed instead of crawl mode, I got up the hill. Better tires would’ve gotten me there with no problem, as proven by the other guys.
Yep. Bantam -> Willys-Overland (and Ford during WWII) -> Kaiser -> AMC -> Chrysler, which then of course went Daimler-Chrysler -> FCA -> Stellantis… it all makes perfect sense basically, especially if you don’t think about it.
I'm not a Jeep guy by any means but this Jeep looks alright 👍 Also, this Wagoneer sure does scream International's Travelall. Is it the trick of the camera lens or does that floor shifter look really far away and small/short? Oh it's the 4WD actuator? If the early 70's Jeeps have shared parts between manufacturers, seems like a hybrid of a built SUV. 25% Ford 25% Chevy 25% Buick 25% Chrysler/AMC. It's like a joint school project lol.
It’s very much like that. Lol. That’s the 4x4 shifter, and yes, it is laid over flat. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be like that or not… the later grand Wagoneers have it super close against the floor though, so it may well be correct. Didn’t seem to be any evidence of being bent.
Everybody and their mother with a CJ goes for the small block Chevy swap… at least this is a Buick. I really like those actually. Specifically the 430, but that’s ok.
Haaaahaha. I mean it’s not half the day but there are *definitely* perquisites. Plenty of corn dogs in the freezer, but the meatballs were a nice change of pace. We told Evan he’d better not come back from IKEA without them, and apparently he took that seriously.
👍 Cool. Let me pick your brain about the 1962-1967ish W200. I'm looking for a quad cab version however, I don't know the code other than W200 to narrow the search down.
I knew someone would have the answer on that. We don’t know them that well and couldn’t find any outside features distinguishing between the two. Papers were missing.
@marioncobaretti2280 what is the difference in the dash? Came without a title so filed for a lost one in California, want to make sure we get the year right because the VIN is no help! Has a standard oil sticker in the door with a 1970 date on it.
That style instrument cluster wasn't introduced until the 73 model year, which should not have had a Buick 350. Either someone has swapped the dash or the engine, but that combination should not exist.
@@upscaleshack my cursory research yesterday confirms that cluster came in ‘73 as you say. But it sure looks like the entire dash is totally different and would have to be changed, and it sure looks like it hasn’t. I spent way too much time yesterday trying to nail this down. It doesn’t look like it’s ever been apart, and the drivetrain stuff also looks original. I don’t know what kind of mutt this is… wait, yes I do - an awesome one.
I am 18,000% sure it’s a Buick 350 😁 this isn’t a ‘73. It’s a ‘70/‘71 model. It also says Dauntless 350 on the air cleaner. It’s also covered in GM pieces, including the 2 Jet. I somewhat explained the chain of engines that were used in these in the video. The two engines also look very different. I have had my hands in both.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I agree it looks like a Buick motor but that Wagoneer is a 1973, newer style dash introduced that year, 1974 and up used a different grille
@@markchandler90 I have since learned that the dash came in ‘73. I don’t know where that leaves us. It has a ‘70/‘71 VIN, and a Buick drivetrain that matches it. It doesn’t look like any of it has ever been apart. Whatever it is or isn’t, it runs great and is ridiculously fun. It also doesn’t belong to me. I’m not going to worry too much.
The ever Starwort Buick motors. Drove a GMC SIX BOX TRUCK with a 20 ft. bed , PISTONS THE SIZE TWO POUNG COFFEE CANS was the way someone described them. BUICK SLOWGUN was WOULDN'T YOU REALLY RATHER HAVE A BUICK. Buick 225 was the Mafia go to car. Cadillac's were for PIMPS.
this is a strange mix of 70 and 71 parts. i have never seen a waggoneer like this one and i have been around these a lot. the 350 was the best engine ever put in these . the amc 360 is junk.
The Buick is awesome! Yes, I learned in the comments after it was posted that things are weird. Like the dash is late enough to not have been in use when the Buick engines were? I tried to find a frame vin to verify but couldn’t and gave up. It doesn’t look to me like it has ever been apart, but it could well have been apart 40+ years ago and it’s all dirty enough to look original now.
yes the dash dosnt match the 350 buick engine that dash is from the amc era and amc would have used their own 360 v8. i have seen 100,s of waggoneers up close and never one like yours@@DeadDodgeGarage think yours is a 72 with a 350 swaped into it
Cool Wagoneer I just own a 53 military m38a1 the motor was so tired it barely would runSo I did the right thing and install the 300 horsepower 327 Chevy with an adapter plate from advanced adapter both is right up to the military transmission of course I left at 5:38 gears in put 35 in tall tires it turned into a missile or death trap put in a new wiring harness that was a cool Jeep of course after a hundred miles you are ready for back surgery what a missile I could be anything across the intersection have a great day

I wanted a wise make sure you tie up those wires that go over to the alternator above the exhaust manifold we have one of those at a gas station that I work at that was a plow truck the plastic zip-ties the wiring harness place broke and Landon on the 20:50 exhaust manifold and burned in half
Oh that’s a cool trick… I’ll take a look at that. Thanks.
Nice Trail Jeeperoo❤😅
Cool jeep
Didn't think you guys had Casuarina trees over that side of the Pacific XD
We sure don’t up here, that I’ve noticed 😅
Cool old Wagoneer. Any plans for it?
For now, make small improvements and tinker with it. Windows that work would be great. Tires are going to be essential asap. It should turn out to be a nice, all stock, drivable Jeep.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I think it’s cool, we just moved to Montana. Let me know if you ever want to sell it.
This is cool
And there ain’t nothing wrong with the radio. lol. Sums up this project.
Pretty much! Lol. If the speakers were plugged in we’d be somebody
@@DeadDodgeGarage rest the song works as well. She needs a carburetor a set of plug wires, ridin you around in four bald tires. The wipers don’t work and horn don’t blow. Lol.
lol as the camera hits the floor, o man haha
Service the diffs auto and motor an a proper tune . Check the suspension etc . Any your getting there . 👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️.
Were the gauges jarred back to life by your passengers head?
Haaaahaha. It’s certainly possible. Sometimes they read right and sometimes they’re just fully pegged. It’s a crapshoot. Eventually I’m sure the magic smoke will come out and they won’t read at all.
I've watched your off-road videos, I liked them, definitely do more. However, use a V8 Power Wagon to make it up those hills.
Jamie those military jeeps are designed for teenagers. 18-19 yrs old kids drove them . Getting old is just a number. Hehehe
Gr8 old wagoneer
Original jeep called the bantam jeep from Butler Pennsylvania
Yep. Bantam -> Willys-Overland (and Ford during WWII) -> Kaiser -> AMC -> Chrysler, which then of course went Daimler-Chrysler -> FCA -> Stellantis… it all makes perfect sense basically, especially if you don’t think about it.
Even looks fairly rust free
It’s super, super solid! I haven’t found any rust on it - except in the exhaust pipe. Haha.
It sounds just like Christine did, ya know, before she healed herself?
Probably a bad GM camshaft.
Don’t know if you made it through the video but I replaced one plug wire and cleaned the plug. Fixed!!
a 350 with a tick no way man cant be no engine that had gm involved ever ticked.
I'm not a Jeep guy by any means but this Jeep looks alright 👍
Also, this Wagoneer sure does scream International's Travelall.
Nice Jeep ,especially w/ a little TLC , and I don't know what Sweden has to do with meatballs .
They come straight from the ikea 😅
Vacuum!👍🏼
Hit the brake reservoir cap with a hoodokan!!!
Damn right!
Not crazy about the GM stuff. But that's what they came with so.... The Jeep part is cool.
Everybody and their mother with a CJ goes for the small block Chevy swap… at least this is a Buick. I really like those actually. Specifically the 430, but that’s ok.
The channel NNKH did a will it run on a jeep with a duantless v6
Nice!
ibelieve you have a 72 body with a 70 engine in it
So I’ve been told. It’s also a ‘70-71 VIN. I have been unable to find a VIN on the frame to match with.
I think we all want a job like yours , half the day driving a jeep in a hay field eating Swedish meatballs .. corndogs not available today?
Haaaahaha. I mean it’s not half the day but there are *definitely* perquisites. Plenty of corn dogs in the freezer, but the meatballs were a nice change of pace. We told Evan he’d better not come back from IKEA without them, and apparently he took that seriously.
I had a 69 it would go where other 4x4s wouldn't put 200,000 on it before selling it
So is it the "Meatball Jeep"?
No that’s way too good. Haha.
You guys selling this?
He sold it a week ago. It was listed for like two days…
👍 Cool. Let me pick your brain about the 1962-1967ish W200. I'm looking for a quad cab version however, I don't know the code other than W200 to narrow the search down.
👊🏻
Ha ha he said, where’s the hole. Yea, yea!
Buh-duh ching!
Thats a 1971 , last year for buick engine but also had amc engines that year. Instrument cluster proves a 71
I knew someone would have the answer on that.
Not sure that is a 1970. The dash is wrong and it has a locking steering wheel. I’m guessing 1971 or 1972.
Yes I’ve heard. We actually think it is a ‘71, but others have said even later.
@@DeadDodgeGarage but with the Buick 350 it can’t be much later than 72.
THE DODGE BROTHERS ?
Something like that. Haha.
Sure that’s not an AMC 360. That wat this 1973 Wagoneer came with.
Clearly, you didn't watch the video too closely.
Oh yeah… the GMC six is neat. I love the 225! Awesome cars.
Put A 360 with A 727 In It
Naaaaa. The Buick is awesome. Nothing wrong with it at all. Just exhaust leaks.
this is a strange mix of 70 and 71 parts. i have never seen a waggoneer like this one and i have been around these a lot. the 350 was the best engine ever put in these . the amc 360 is junk.
The Buick is awesome! Yes, I learned in the comments after it was posted that things are weird. Like the dash is late enough to not have been in use when the Buick engines were? I tried to find a frame vin to verify but couldn’t and gave up. It doesn’t look to me like it has ever been apart, but it could well have been apart 40+ years ago and it’s all dirty enough to look original now.
yes the dash dosnt match the 350 buick engine that dash is from the amc era and amc would have used their own 360 v8. i have seen 100,s of waggoneers up close and never one like yours@@DeadDodgeGarage think yours is a 72 with a 350 swaped into it
Tasty meatballs he says
They were, too
Cool jeep n easy on gas😂
Mmm swedish meatballs
Cool Wagoneer I just own a 53 military m38a1 the motor was so tired it barely would runSo I did the right thing and install the 300 horsepower 327 Chevy with an adapter plate from advanced adapter both is right up to the military transmission of course I left at 5:38 gears in put 35 in tall tires it turned into a missile or death trap put in a new wiring harness that was a cool Jeep of course after a hundred miles you are ready for back surgery what a missile I could be anything across the intersection have a great day
Oh yeah. That’s definitely the right way to fix it too. I couldn’t see actually using one as a driver. But they sure are great for the farm / ranch / woods, etc
As soon as I saw the Dauntless 350, I was like, “it's a Chev... She'll run..” 🙂
I always thought they were Buick motors
@@olikat8it is a Buick
@@olikat8 they were the same basic principal as the Chev 350 with tweaks for GM's different divisions.
Well… really basic principles. The heads, intake, distributor setup, bellhousing, and… well just about everything else are all special to the Buick. But they’re definitely cousins.
@@DeadDodgeGarage that's fair enough.
