A fantastic compilation of useful ChemE softwares! I think it quite interesting to see how software is becoming more important and even taught as part of ChemEng degrees too! Great work Emmanuel 👏
Regarding process simulators, I have seen quite some interest lately in Aveva Process Simulator. It sort of branches out from ProII but it became its own thing and is quite good in seamlessly switching from SS to dynamics
For process systems engineering julia (programming) and gProms (simulation and more) are becoming popular. Specifically for optimization GAMS and JuMP are very powerful.
The idea of talking abt matlab is great imo! Id love to hear your input on how this software is used usually. The others also, if interesting for a video.
Interviewer: "When was the last time you used excel?" Me with 5 spreadsheets currently open on my personal laptop, 3 open on my work computer right now, and after having made a sheet last night while drunk for fun: "ummm like 5 minutes ago?"
Hi Emmanuel, good list of softwares, some of them not used in a daily basis. It would be very interesting if you can show also how to use most of them (maybe a course 😏) applied to specific cases. The most interesting will be the open source ones, of course 😂 great job, see you!
Sir I want to know some information about the CPU & GPU of laptops that are able to run every chemical engineering software without any problems and some laptop recommendations.
Well, every is a very hard way to put it, as there are lots of software that you may be using, I'll assume general recommendations like 8gb ram, Intel 5 chip onwards, windows 10 etc
just getting into your videos! ProTreat and SulphurPro are very niche softwares specifically for acid gas treating applications and Claus sulfur recovery modeling. Unless you work in and around amine units or sulfur units, probably never heard of it.
thanks for your input! Im only familiar with Sulphur Pro, but haven't use it. For sure it is a geat tool, as stated, it is a niche application, but very important if that applications it he one you are in charge XD
Indeed. My 2 closest schools use C++ and Matlab, but I am pretty sure they do teach Python at the community colleges near me as well. In fact one of them has JAVA, Python, AND C++. All in demand.
Not sure I understand the point about it not being windows. Both Siemens and AB HMIs typically come with windows CE as the OS and most SCADA systems are built onto of windows.
@@ChemicalEngineeringGuy Well, I'm kinda confused about which route I should take, so I guess if your videos focus more on a specific topic with further details it could be a lot better. I appreciate your kindness.
Hey Emmanuel, Im a highschool grad and trying to get into uni.... I was planning on studying chemical engg but found out my red green colour blindness can hamper my work and it wont be worth it.... IS it true ?
Well, that may be the issue in some specific industries, in which safety and hazard issues may be present. You will simply be discarded on that reason alone... But there are a LOT of fields which will allow you to be color blind and have no problem at all... For instance, may Process Engineering Roles may be ok with that!
Never been a fan of this software but gProms is sometimes used for dynamic simulations. GAMS was also used for optimisation, again not a fan of it either.
Most likely Production Planning (PP (Production Planning)), but Ive heard about: SAP QM (Quality Management); EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) SD (Sales and Distribution) MM (Materials Management) and much more!
Depends on your job position! If you are into data science with ChemE, you will use it a lot, if you are programming PLC or maybe automation/Control, you may use it as well.... Maybe in optimization or so as well... In the day to day life, it may not be used at all, so itsh ard to answer this without further context
When do you use aspen hysys instead of aspen plus? I used both in my bachelors but still do not understand why one over the other or if it’s just preference
Although there is a LOT of overlap between both, HYSYS is more focused for oil&gas industry (e.g. easier generation of hypothetical comps for oil&gas assays).Aspen Plus focus is on chemical processes (highly customizable thermo). Some other features may also be differentiators such as dynamic modeling (HYSYS does it in the same GUI, Aspen Plus needs to export to A+ Dynamics), or Equation Oriented models.
truly, it is most likely that you use HYSYS or Plus depending on what they are using in your company/industry... Selection is personal, in most cases, if you are into fine chemical -> aspen plus... if you are into oil and gas, HYSYS is a better fit
Not quite sure if 100% daily, but here is a great article from AICHE, it is the programming language that is used most extensively. www.aiche.org/resources/publications/cep/2021/september/step-digital-age-python

Indeed my friend, lots of more software will become more relevant as we continue evolving and merging tech and chemE
I am a chemical engineering student at Indian institute of technology Dharwad and this video is very informative
thanks! I also think its informative!
Great video. I'm chemical engineer and I constantly use Aspentech and Matlab, although I also use another calculation tools like Maple and Mathcad.
Hey, thanks for your input. There's lots of students wondering if they actually will be using such software
Hi,how to get free Aspen tech software please reply
Hiii
Can I get your LinkedIn id ? I want to know your profession

Nice... I haven't try out aveva in a long time, but i've heard interesting news on that!
Thank you for this video... I'm an undergraduate of chemical engineering in Nigeria
Cool! I'm glad it was helpful!

thanks for the extra info! I hope young engineers will get into that.. I haven't hear that much into GAMS julia
viso Diagram, 2- Matlab, 3- aspen tech- chemcad, 4- DWSM. 5- auto cad,. 6- SAP 7- HTRI 8-
Thanks my friend!
For pem membrane which software is used
Do we need a strong laptop?
The idea of talking abt matlab is great imo! Id love to hear your input on how this software is used usually. The others also, if interesting for a video.
Noted! Will do! Have you use it?
I have always wanted to see this video. Thank you!
More than welcome, hope you enjoyed!!

Totally agree, Excel the alight software sustaining industries =]

Yesss! Actually I always wanted to do some course son free software on process simulation, will try to make them by next year!
Great content! maybe we can add Scilab as an open-source option of Mathlab bro..
For sure, its a great alternative!

What is the difference between Aspen plus and Aspen Hysys.
What is beter to learn?
Aspen plus is more for chemical applications, hysys for Oil & gas
Thank yu so much sir.❤ it helped me more!
Im glad it helped!
So far I've had to use Excel and VBA, Python looks a bit intimidating 😂 thanks for the video. From South Africa
Python is one of the easiest programming language to learn since it is a high level language.
It might be, but just try it, as any skill, the more you orueactice the more you learn and feel confident
Indeed. My 2 closest schools use C++ and Matlab, but I am pretty sure they do teach Python at the community colleges near me as well. In fact one of them has JAVA, Python, AND C++. All in demand.
True, Python is great as well... consider it in your toolset
I have a question do we need to have a powerful cpu and gpu? if yes what are the requirements
Not really, maybe just for AspenTech/Simulation software in which you required calculation power, but generall speaking, no, you dont need extreme CPU
Good content as always!
Appreciate it! Thanks for the kind comments
WEST, GPS-X, BioWin, ASIM, SymOS, Simba Biogas / WWTP are useful for ChemE if you work in WWTP and Biogas / renewable energy sources.
hey there, thanks man! really appreciate those, I dont know most of them, but will check them out
Which of them can be used for pem membrane
What is the difference between Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus?
i have a blog article: chemicalengineeringguy.com/the-blog/process-simulation/aspen-plus-vs-hysys-whats-the-difference/
As a beginner which software i should learn first
excel first, then maybe any programming language, process simulator at the end of your bachelors!
Thank you for your videos, from Brazil ✌🏽
Glad you like them! All the best to Brazil
Can a MacBook be appropriate for a chemical engineer like me?Can all the software mentioned here be used efficiently with that?
I think it can be good enough, but some courses will require you to have windows, exmaple: Aspen Software

GNU Octave. It is an open source Matlab without simulink. Also COCO simulator essentially a stripped down DWSIM.
True, COCO simulator is not as robust tool as DWSIM
How autocad is uselful for chemical engineering? And it is worth to learn it?
Not much, it's only suitable for those working in pieces or machinery, for instance, pump design, manufacturing of equipment, etx
