    Spent many an hour in the back of a mixer with a kango and 14lb hammer ,did the job for over 30years. Not easy to wash out after every load as most sites only allow a wheel barrow for washing chutes in, environmental problems if to many wash on floor .Most mixers only carry a limited amount of water as well. life getting easier for todays mixer drivers.

      @@JoseGonzalez-hh7yb Hi Jose. It is hard to offer advice on charges to make would depend on amount of concrete to move out. Danger is allways present inside a mixer barrel ,work the bottom first then when clean move barrel round ,it doesn't stop large bits falling but lessons the risk. We started using explosive charges just before I retired 13 years ago ,seemed to work well but must be a certain distance from barrel shell as could blow a hole in it.Good luck.

    Concrete plants here in the US require a truck to get washed out at the end of every day and the material is sold and is called concrete washings, used for road surface mainly.

      When drivers return with pump wash or leftovers that are too wet to wind row it, they throw it in our washout pond. 2-3 days later when it feels ill clean it out and make a waste volcano. Once it dries we load on a truck send it to the quarry to get sold as bases

    We had one of these site and it's very loud. operator's still had to climb inside once it was blasted to chip out the dags left over and remove chunks that wouldn't discharge.. This machine is apparently meant to eliminate confined space entry but not the case.

      Sorry for the inconvinience, it's just to show the result. Showing the complete process of the high pressure buildup removal in the drum is not possible due to the steam produced during the process. Nevertheless we had our scepsis back in 2009 but now are experienced robotic buildup removers and keep smiling after each emptied drum!!

    Our drums get cleaned out twice a year, and we wash our trucks twice per load. Once at the wash rack after we get loaded while we get the slump right, and then once after we pour on the site. Our trucks are white. And they stay that way. Obviously over time some splatter get stuck on...especially on the inside of my tag axle.. But damn, that's what backset is for.
    Also, the amount of buildup in that drum is insane. You would be fired for that at my company.

  • @rosewhite---

    0:26 showed a long square tube with high pressure water jet entering the far end of drum and blasting loose the concrete which then allowed rest of it to peel off the fins.

    when I had the job in the 80s you had to crawl in the drum with a needle gun and break it up . it didnt matter how much you filled them up with water with hose and washed them drums out the excess sometimes built up . we had a rag tied around our mouth and had to wash the mixer drum chassis and mud guards with diluted acid to help burn concrete off the truck . I suppose nowadays health and safety and new equipment makes job easier .

    • @mikeleikam2892
      @mikeleikam2892 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, climb in with small jackhammer and start knocking concrete loose. Ear plugs and dust mask with a fan running to help push dust out side port and out rear hopper. Nothing easy. It all depends on how one washes the drum after each pour and the type of mud used and if any place to dump excess concrete. Did this for 13 years , got good at keeping drum clean , hated chipping drum!!

      matt Feltham I work in Missouri making redi rock blocks and we pour 3 sets of blocks in 12 hours. The mix we get dispatched has 2% calcium, type 3 cement, super set and hand full of other chemicals. Our trucks can get built up like this within months. Our drivers clean everything but the type of load your batched will determine that. Until you've been batched our mix you have no idea how fast it will and does blow up. Oh and my block production building is 100 feet from our plant so there is litteraly no drive time.

      Only if the drivers or company are idiots like this. We wash up the exterior after being loaded and the inside/outside after every pour, and in our contract, if we don't pour within 2hrs of the customers requested "on site" time, we go back to the yard and dump the load out(make concrete construction barrier walls with it) and the customer pays for the discarded load. Our trucks never build up a disaster like this.

    Damn that's like two yards of concrete. You pay for 10 but you only get you get at 8.

      They batch out by weight. So many lbs of cement , so many lbs of aggregate , so many gallons of water. You order 10 yards , they batch out 10 yards. The build up does make getting it all out a little more difficult.

  • @ObelixMagnetFishing
    @ObelixMagnetFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, that saves a lot of - what am I saying - tonnage. Is that nozzle just as strong as with Coke Ovens 600 Bar? For example, a mixer will last a lot longer and you can take more concrete with you. ;-) I have worked on many mixer from 4m³ to 15m³ at various companies in the Netherlands and have been a mentor driver for another year.

    Fierce competition high salaries low profits high production job site hold ups won’t always allow cleaning like this ; so they have to keep moving until it gets to this point....

    • @thomasbroking7943

      Sounds like you know. I'll ask if thats from breaking down? Does a truck running normally, (my idea) hit stop by stop until empty & then back to the yard to reload, would that allow for buildup like this?? That pile looks like 2 yards maybe, if thats from a day, thats lousy use of equipment. .
      I would want to be able to carry a full load if it was my truck.. Thanks

    Everyone is complaining about not being able to see it in action, which would be nice, but I doubt there's a camera made that could survive inside the drum while it's being blasted.

    • @ejfransen
      @ejfransen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, no camera can withstand the power and spread waterspray inside the confined space of the drum. That's the reason!

  • @GarrisonFall

    They were some big lumps of concrete. If anyone knows, is that a normal build-up over time or would something have gone wrong for that much concrete to set in the mixer?

    • @EM-mb3hh
      @EM-mb3hh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is pure negligence on the operators fault!!! Ive driven mixer for years and a proper washout will eliminate 99.9 percent of buildup like that

    • @user-km2iz8rk4f
      @user-km2iz8rk4f 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Either one really. But mainly operator error. Just not cleaning the drum right or sitting to long on a job. No matter how long you spin concrete and keep it wet. After a few hours that shit will harden up no matter what you do to it.

    • @GarrisonFall
      @GarrisonFall 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-km2iz8rk4f Thanks for your reply. Since my early years cement trucks have intrigued me. I know from cleaning up my spade and wheelbarrow how easy it is for concrete to set on metal. I imagine every delivery must be planned with driving time then time on site plus the 'fudge factor' to pour the mix before it starts to set. More complicated that it appears I imagine.

    That mixer has been sitting for a long time for one thing, the second is that they removed the entire upper end of the hopper. Third, I did not see how the system worked at all. Saw a boom going into a dissected hopper and then the mixer discharging broken pieces. Poor video.

      it would have been high pressure water probably 10,000 - 20,000 PSI and maybe ultrasonics to break up the concrete. safe and fast.
