    Another great report!
    I would never buy a home on this toxic wasteland

      Thank you!👍 I'm glad they are cleaning up the place at least. When this project and Lake Las Vegas are done, the city will be up to the Lake Mead park boundary🤯

    Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I'd want to live there, especially with kids.

    Very interesting. It’s hard to think of a project the government hasn’t messed up. Except for maybe the Space Program, that is.

    Thank you so much for this update! We live in LLV and I’ve always worried a bit about seepage from this contaminated site, I would never knowingly buy a house in such a site. Hopefully our house isn’t sitting on a site like this!

      Glad it was helpful! We were also surprised to hear Pulte was developing on top of it. For years it was expected (and hoped) that site would be cleaned up but many locals imagined it would be a city park with trees or an open space to help let the ground mend. Even with every modern measure and test conducted before developing, I don't think we'll really know the total environmental and biological effects for perhaps another 100 years. Parts of Cadence over by Pabco were the same way with the old Basic Magnesium leaching pits. Then there is the old Henderson dump area also. With the wind blowing the way it does... all of us in the valley or Guinea Pigs one way or another it seems!

    When were you here? I wanted to go but they have signs up now saying private property everywhere and they have a generator powered camera at the front too, was thinking of parking down the street and walking up the hills and come in from the back

      We noticed they closed the site right around the end of April, I made a short clip and community post about it th-cam.com/video/z-GV6TfxyjwL/w-d-xo.html Most of the video was taken late last year and there was definitely nothing closed off or under surveillance. There was some interesting rockhounding back there in the hills... along with a bunch of contaminated materials 😵

    What other options are available today to cleanup and pay for it?
    It’s easy to complain about this project and area including Cadence, but a good plan is better than leaving the open pits that way for another 50+ years
    Hendertucky is much better now with Water Street upgrades so give this project a chance

      Agree! That is the exact question I'm posing here. In the video I state "(the cleanup) is certainly a good thing, as you can otherwise see how this land would be used." Perhaps there was a better use than a housing development though? I'm no expert and don't have the answers, but if you want to know my personal opinion... I think they should have made that a large xeriscaped city park off the bike trail. The county is just discovering the problem they've created with urban heat islands, and more parks with large trees would help in that area. Plus the vegetation and insects would start to "mend" the soil naturally over time. Of course there is no big profits in building something useful like a park for residents, so the city of Henderson (much like Las Vegas) will sell out and let developers cram houses onto every inch of desert... contaminated soil or not. It's definitely not the small town it was, but change is the only constant here and you learn to live with it or go farther and farther out (Lake Las Vegas used to be "out in the boonies!") We love the Water Street area and so happy to see it revived while they preserve the history of the magnesium industry. Hoping to work with the city of Henderson in the future to promote local history and events. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment!

    When is the start date to clean it up

      @mojo.adventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All that is being reported is "2024" but there is no on-site activity yet. I'll update this reply if I see an actual date or excavation going 👍

    With this nasty recession knocking at the door let’s see how far this project gets. I see major delays could even be a pipe dream. 🇺🇸🌴

      Normally with the recessions in the past here I would tend to agree, but I am sure the city got a real sweetheart deal when this land was released from public holding and passed over to Pulte for the cleanup. I think with the city backing the reclamation and not only the development, it would turn into one of those "too big to fail" situations where the city would bail Pulte out to finish. Most residents realize now the city will bend over backwards for developers these days in their hunt for a rich new tax base...

    None of that real estate is for sale. All those houses there are illegally developed and those people are trespassing. There is no legal claim for pollution for housing illegally developed next to a mine.

      Interesting, I haven't heard anything about that yet. If you are referring to the new builds across the street in the video, I believe those are part of the existing "Lake Las Vegas" build out. Thank you for watching and sharing the info!👍

    Some animals leave wastes that are only slowly degradable, and leave persistent scarring/disruption of the environment: most such insults are absorbed over time by the environment. The scale and severity of disruptions by technological humans are in a different league.
    But the cost has to be paid by future generations, either in the cost of cleanup or in the loss of living environment.

      Spot on, great insight 👍 Humans can do great damage so fast and inflict changes on the landscape a lot more than they realize. I think with the production frenzy of WWII back then, none of these things mattered at all. Worry about it later when we can. Well here we are just starting to realize the depth of damage done at sites like these.

    Is the cadence area a former hazardous area? Thought I read that somewhere.

    • @mojo.adventures
      @mojo.adventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep! A lot of Henderson was just empty desert at the time. Basic Magnesium had leaching ponds on parts of the Cadence plot most over by Pabco Rd. There were no open pits or adits. Three Kids will be a bit bigger of a project it seems!
