We have a 2023 HPD Elite Pilot and absolutely love it. I now have had 6 Acura/Honda cars and this by far is the best. Our phone charger works fantastic. The first one that has. Our 2021 honda passport didn't work at all. We don't even take our thick covers off to charge. Those of you who are worried about snow and ice on the wipers- it has a button that heats the wipers to melt the ice. Our radio stays on. Only goes off when door is open. Might be a setting to change yours. We do not have the gap in the door. We though do not get the gas mileage they talk about. We get 18 in town and 26 on highway. We keep the middle small seat in 2nd row stored in the area for it in back. The gap is perfect for our small dog carrier to fit in for our long trips. We have 4000 miles and bought it in August.
How is the acceleration? Some auto reviewers say it is a little slow or sluggish especially when full of people? Also any chance you live at a high elevation? Living at 5000ft does sap power from any non turbo cars. So it is helpful to us when people also living at high elevation describe the acceleration of the suv. Thanks
@@tjsullivan4793 The acceleration is ok. We live at 500 ft though. We did drive to Utah to see my son and he lives at 4400 ft. We only had two people but we were totally loaded down with dog and her stuff also. The only SUV I've had that got up and moved was my Ford Explorer ST. But Ford is having a lot of issues with their Explorers right now. My daughter had her 2023 for only 2 months and turned it back to dealer as a lemon.
@@tjsullivan4793 I've driven from 600-2kft and it is OK for us, but not that high up. The drive modes most definitely change the throttle response. ECON you almost have to get into 1/3 to 1/2 the throttle before it downshifts and takes off. Normal is better and Sport mode it downshifts so it's in the powerband. It's def no rocket ship but coming from a gutless 2012 Forester, it feels pretty good. I had a '14 WRX (for comparison) and the power seems comparable. Obviously a little slower due to the weight. But we had a fully loaded car (2 adults, 3 kids, dog, all our gear stacked in the 3rd row and trunk) and it wasn't much different accel wise than normal. Now, I will be towing a popup camper next summer, and that will be the ultimate test, because we are usually packed to the brim on top of towing the popup. And a loaded Thule cargo box. I'll try and get back to this for an update!

Just got a 2024 elite model and it’s awesome. I think it’s the smoothest overall car in the class. This powertrain is so smooth vs palisade, grand highlander, cx90. I find the car to be quieter than older Lexus Rx, Acura tls, and Infiniti g37have driven in the past. Tire noise is sometimes more pronounced but not bad to me. I agree with the criticism on interior design on the screens

What happens to the phone-connection when the engine is turned off? Do the in-car speakers turn off so now only the phone's speaker is engaged? So, that means the car's speaker is turned off, too? I know NOW to check on this when shopping. Again - thanks.
Also, I wish the rear bumper had about 2-inches of spacing away from the rear door to protect the whole rear-door. If I back towards a tree, I will be bumping the whole rear door instead of the so-called 'bumper'. There really is NOT a rear-bumper at all.
Yeah, the short bumper is a question mark when it comes to possibly easier denting of the tailgate in a minor bump. Fingers crossed I never need to “test” it!

Great review! I NEVER paid attention to the Pilots before, until I saw a video pop up here on TH-cam a couple months ago. After seeing the video, we went and test drove one a couple days later. I was absolutely amazed/surprised by the overall experience of the Pilot Elite. We've test driven the MDX, Infiniti QX60, Nissan Pathfinder, Lincoln Aviator, and none of them come close to the overall bang for your buck value that you get for the Pilot Elite. Only thing missing is a digital rear-view mirror and 12in infotainment.

@@createdinHisimage1 no leaking issues for me. However, I have noticed a bit of flex in the pano roof cross member that supports the glass in the middle. Notice it flexing when closing the roof. Might be how it’s designed but it has caught my eye.
Thanks for sharing, only time will tell how good the new pilot is on the long run. I’m very interested in the trail sport version. But can’t justify the purchase, mostly because my 07 pilot still runs great and has been super reliable. It’s personal preference but I really don’t like not having a shifter lever & a mechanical parking brake and absolutely dislike those big touchscreens on the dashboard.
On the parking brake situation, I had both an Acura RDX and Honda accord touring at the same time that worked opposite way. The way it’s designed is how the real parking/handbrake would work, in the RDX it’s push on the button (as if you are pushing down on the parking brake pedal) to turn on the emergency brake and on the accord it was pull-up (like pulling up on a handbrake). You can also set it to turn on the ebrake when you turn off the car.
Think of the parking brake control this way…pull up on the switch to engage like a “fly off” parking brake like old Hondas, push down to release. I have a 2020 RDX and engage the parking brake like the old-time “step-on” parking brake…push the switch; pull to disengage…like old cars. Just a thought.
I just got the 2024 Touring, upgraded from a 2019 LX. Most of your issues are shared with the touring. Everything is "fine" but the exhaust turndowns are such as copout.

Have been considering this vehicle for our next one but the wipers that can't be completely raised is a no-go in the northern climates with snow and freezing rain. Thanks for the review.
One consolation is that on my trim the electronic wiper deicer feature works well at the base of the windshield to melt any ice frozen to the wiper blades. Overall, though, the wiper arm design is a real PITA.
the bumper and lower rubber trim, I think it's down to final assembly at the plant. compare the bumper against the base model, no fake exhaust, but the bumper looks to be a clip on. Additionally, there's very little to separate the Elite from the Touring in looks.
In my honda ridgeline. It also turn off the radio when im turning off ignition. But if i want to continuosly use the radio after turning off the engine, i let the engine stay in drive mode before turning off the engine. For black trims, i applied ceramic coating and will stay vibrant
In your case does the push button electronic shifter not automatically put the tranny into park when the engine turns off (if not already in park), which then kills the radio? That’s what happens to me.
You mentioned a very good list of ideas, I was hoping that you would add another idea that in these days and age a camera recording front and rear of the car would help the driver and law Enforcements in case of a collision .
Interesting idea. One additional feature I do like a lot is the front view camera that turns on automatically and projects on the infotainment display when the Pilot gets close to an object like another car in a parking lot, front of your garage, or a curb.
Not being able to keep the wipers in the up position is a major design flaw especially if you live in the Midwest in the winter. I’ve owned many vehicles of all make and never was unable to position the wipers in the up orientation. In the midwest during the winter the wiper blades will freeze to the windshield , not good, Thanks for the review.
You can keep the wipers in up position. This is not a design flaw. My 2000 Acura 3.2 TL is like this. We have 2007 Honda Ridgeline also like this. With them, you have to turn key to on position not start. Turn wipers On. When they Raise up on windshield turn key Off. Then you can lift off windshield. The newer Pilot is about same just extra step. Also, you don't have key in ignition switch push button start with these vehicles.
@@fredmoss4540 actually from an engineer’s prospective it is a design flaw. I have a 2023 Ridgeline that does not have that issue. When you have to activate the wipers half way to pull them in the upright position it is an unnecessary step. When you attempt to raise the wipers for whatever reason and the hood prevents you from completing that task it’s absolutely not the way Honda intended it to be. Every vehicle I owned even the 6 figure vehicles I’ve owned did not have that design flaw. In closing it’s not a matter of opinion it is a “design oversight”, thanks
I have the same vehicle. What an outstanding review! I only have 6000 miles on mine now. I disabled the Variable Cylinder Management and Idle Start/Stop as I see no value in these features together with many downsides. Also, I’m somewhat concerned with intake valve carbon buildup due to the GDI engine design. I wish this engine had dual injection (GDI/multiport) as do Toyotas. Overall, though I agree with all the review points and am very happy with my Pilot.
Thx! Luckily Hondas don’t have a reputation for carbon buildup but it can occur on any DI engine. Can’t stand idle stop/start. Well done getting it turned off for good.
Regarding the engine and comparing to Toyota/Lexus who I would argue are still the benchmark for engine durability etc why is Honda on a newly redesigned engine still using a timing belt and also like you say not using multiport to prevent carbon buildup on DI engines?
We test drove a 2034 Touring and I really like it. We have a 4Runner and it is highly modded for off-roading, especially at night. Hard to let it go but I miss having heated seats and leather seats that are comfortable. We can’t do sedans, I’m the size of a linebacker and they are also expensive to insure for us. (Thanks Nevada).
ymmv on the wireless charger, worked fine for my Pixel 6 and even better with my Pixel 8. as for the phone getting hot, that's an issue typical of any Qi charger.
Thank you for the review of your Pilot. We also have a family of five and have a Sienna for daily driving. I am looking into a car for myself to commute through some mountain highways to work and for the occasional family trip into the mountains. What would you think about the Pilot as a commuter car? Is it too big? The third row also would prevent the kids from being on top of each other during those trip. I am also considering the Passport but it has the older engine/9 speed transmission and gets 1 MPG less on the hwy! Thank you for your time.
It’s certainly very comfortable. Commuter type driving may push your avg mpg into the lower 20s. Will say the “Sport” setting of the engine/transmission is a great setting for mountain driving with it keeping revs up into the power band and enough engine braking to not overwork the brakes. Don’t think I would like the vehicle for long stop and go commuting because the 1st gear ratio is so short that it will start to feel jerky after a while.

Can you tell me your perspective on the multicamera system on the Elite (shared with the Trailsport)? I cannot tell how useful it is in the real world situations or is it gimmick.

I find the 360 multi-camera view very useful and worth it. 360 view is great for parking in tight spaces and the front camera automatically turns on when you get close to objects such as pulling into parking stalls with a car in front of you, a curb, garage front wall or objects in front of car, or shrubs in front of a parking spot. The 360 views turn off automatically when the vehicle passes 15 mph (and won’t display when going faster than 15 mph). The front view can also be turned on manually with a button on the end of the right stalk when below 15 mph.
I agree with everything brought out in this video. I recently purchased a 2024 Pilot Elite. I am disappointed with the heads-up display cut off on the right. My Volvo allows the HUD to be adjusted to the left. Also, I'm disappointed with the wireless charger. Nevertheless, I am overall happy with the vehicle, these are just "nits"
I had a 1988 Chevy Blazer with heads-up and it was FANTASTIC. The 1990 Blazer had even more vivid colors. Since that time, NO vehicle has matched the distinctive display or the sun-shine-combative colorations, OR the range of viewing angles I don't know why. By the way, Chevy and GM dealers told me they never worked. Funny - we had FLEETS (3 doz each model year) and we never had one failure. These dealers made us leave them and move to Toyotas and Hondas instead because we didn't know what else Chevy/GM dealers would lie about.
The lack of a step bumper on the back is regretful. The push buttons for the transmission should be on the dash to make more workspace on the center console.
I think the push button controls definitely should move to the dash or even one of the steering wheel stocks (like some Chevy SUVs and other brands.) That would open up more space on the center console, and hopefully that would get rid of the piano black plastic trim. I *hate* piano black plastic! Oh, and that's a MONSTER door gap! Wow! Definitely early production issue (at least I hope.)
Thankfully Honda doesn’t use a lot of piano black plastic in the Pilot but the shifter button area is certainly noticeable. Yeah, early production issues what I suspect. Reported the gap to my dealership and they reported it to some kind of corporate Honda database for tracking.
yes, remove all the buttons for the console.. it is getting so annoying if you have a big dog.. it happened many times that my dog's feet pressed some of the buttons while I was driving. I used cardboard to cover them up..
For me, i like the position of the exhaust pipe directed to the ground. While loading up things at the back while warming up engine during winter, i think the smoke from muffler will not go straight to my leg. Not sure if this correct, i will know once i have my 2025 honda pilot at the end of april.
Good luck with your purchase! I have several other cars with straight dual exhausts and have never had any issues with smoke or heat, but angling down would mitigate the potential.
Love this Video, very informative! everything that he said is very realistic and accurate for me, though i can deal with most of everything that needed to be improved, there is 1 thing that i can not deal to buy this fantastic SUV, that is the gas tank for me, its the deal breaker for me, i need a 500 miles range vehicle if i spent 50k plus, after everything done , it's probably about 60k. Sorry Honda !
Thx for watching! If I’m easy on the gas and can eke out 27 mpg on the highway I can get close to 400 miles when the gas light comes on. If you’re going 75mph+ I’d expect around 340-360 miles. Gas tank size is disappointing, but it hasn’t been too much of an issue for us…but haven’t had to drive across the country, yet!
I don't have tjat gab on the doors, my radio stay on until I open the doors ,practically you can change about everything the way you want or not want as you like
HONDA ENGINEERS ARE YOU LISTENING? I agree 100% about the cruise control, why it doesn't downshift or have a lax behavior blows my mind. I am constantly cancelling, and downshifting like you mentioned to hold hills that are miles long. I can just see what the other drivers are thinking, like why is this guy riding his brakes so much?? It also drives me nuts that it has no tolerance for coasting on a slight downhill. I get if you're coming up on a car, ya gotta brake. But there's literally nobody around and it brakes like there's a speedcheck ahead. Also, I can't comment on the wireless charger much as it doesn't work with my particular phone case and iphone. Only if I take the phone out of the case, unfortunately.
You hit the nail on the head with the cruise control. Well said. It’s particularly annoying if you’re on a stretch of highway with a lot of small hills…downshifting to maintain speed up the hill and then constant, regular brake applications on the downside of the hill. The repeated pattern gets old and I have to turn off cruise.
@@FourTheWheels For sure!! They could even do the EV thing where if they downshift and the car is decelerating, they light the brake lights (but not the physical brakes). Seems like a no brainer.
Thank you for doing this review! Specifically addressing the tire noise. Our 2008 Odyssey has plenty of life left but the highway noise is a deal breaker for us. Maybe Acura is better with the NVH materials in the MDX although the Pilot seems to be a better at the day to day utility. Ive been researching this segment for a long time now and it all seems to be full of comprimises. Overpay for the boaty Toyota GH due to dealer markups. Roll the dice on the experimental Cx90. Take out a 2nd mortgage for the luxury brands.
Ha, that’s a pretty good way of looking at it! We used to own a 2012 Odyssey. A little noisy as well but good quality tires and regular alignments kept the road noise down.
Was recently at the dealership and the service advisor stated that the tire compound on the Bridgestone Alenza is harder than many other tires, which can contribute to a bit more road noise. Next time I replace the tires I’m likely switching to Michelins.
Michelins tend to be some of the quietest tires on the road. I've got a pretty noisy freeway near me and I'm going to see how the MDX handles it. Certainly, the Pilot has its advantages from an interior usability standpoint. I could flip a coin on the pros and cons between those two vehicles.
I’ve had the best luck with higher end Goodyears and Michelins. Quiet and wear well. Tough call between MDX and Pilot. I drove them both and both are excellent. 3rd row is bigger in Pilot and my family needed that extra space.
FWIW I Turo'ed an MDX Aspec for two days. There was more noise on the highway than I expected but I suppose it was quiet enough. I also test drove a CX90 and it was quieter inside than the Acura. Both the Pilot and MDX are some of the last NA v6s with proven reliability. Every car has its pros and cons. I guess with Honda/Acura road noise is just part of it. As you said put some Michelins on it to make the best of it.
it is very common, in newer cars now, my wife has a Nissan SUV, same issue.. soon or later, the wiper arm will create rust to the hood.. it happened to my wife car since we need to lift it up to clean snow.. and after a few years.. "hit and hit.. and hit" == the paint will peel off and then water... and snow.. == rust..
I typically only use the adaptive cruise and lane keeping (i.e. semi autonomous steering). Both work fine. Only issue with lane keeping is it will sometimes want to take an interstate off ramp since it detects the right solid white line moving right.
Honda Pilot is the correct way for the parking brake. Acura needs to revisit. 😊 I agree that the radio should stay on. My 2011 Accord would keep the call going until it ended. Panel gap I agree with. I was surprised to see poor alignment and gaps in Honda North America product. Speaks to culture and reflects poorer QC, design issues as well and lack of pride in workmanship. Plan to take mine to the authorized body shop. Good vehicle I like mine, just should have been made in Japan. 😉😂

The Honda pilot is awesome omg there isn’t a vehicle out there that doesn’t have things wrong with them !!! But overall it is the best of all SUVs and if you need a 12” screen get glasses gee wiz
I wouldn’t want hot exhaust running and exiting right below expensive blind spot sensors. I suspect this is why Honda dropped the exhaust further under the rear. Also can the HUD display position be adjusted? The one in my Hyundai can.
Regarding the small infotainment system display, it is disappointing that its smaller than the the other cars in this class. But have you found the size to be an actual problem in real life usage? Also, how are the safety features on the pilot? On my 2016 Odyssey the phantom brake warnings are too sensitive and not useful.
It would be nice to have some more “real estate” on the screen but I have not found it to be a problem. The menus on the screen are simple to navigate to what you want from the infotainment system. And, it has yet to glitch on me. Safety features work as designed and work well. Only minor concern for me is in certain bright light conditions it can sometimes be difficult to see the blind spot yellow warning light on the outside mirrors - for me not enough color contrast from the yellow warning light to the silver mirror finish of the side mirrors.
You should be able to put the wiper blades up after you turn the car off and use the windshield wipers so that they stop halfway up the front window amd then pull them off the glass.
On my 1990 Acura Legend, Honda has a “winter” switch for the wipers that would park the wipers above the hidden area of the hood so that you could lift up the wipers to scrape, etc. Brilliant idea I wish they never get rid of.
Not sure but I’d guess the plastic at the bottom on the sides of the vehicle is there to reduce exposure to rust. Those are the first parts of the car to rust typically so making them out of plastic provides some protection there.
They mostly just cover up the metal at the bottom of the door. At least with the plastic it doesn’t get chipped from rocks being kicked up from the tires.
Is there a way to move the wiper blades when the car is off? In my VW GTI you push down on the wiper stalk after turning the ignition off, and they sweep to the "up" position where they can be serviced.
Here’s what the owner’s manual says… “Set the power mode to VEHICLE OFF. While holding the wiper switch in the MIST position, set the power mode to ON, then to VEHICLE OFF. Both wiper arms are set to the maintenance position as shown in the image.” The image then shows the wipers in a 90 degree position (pointing skyward).
Yeah, I can't believe Honda wasn't benchmarking Telluride/Palisade/Highlander when they decided on the infotainment screen size. I get that they need to leave something for the mid-cycle refresh, but 9 inches? It's serviceable but just barely.
The wiper thing might be a deal breaker for me, as I live in Wisconsin and park outdoors. We always prop the wipers up to clear snow and ice off the windshield and not being able to do that would be incredibly annoying. Never would have thought to look for that. Thanks for pointing it out!
I agree that Honda has solved the brake warping issue. I’ve owned 6 Hondas going back to 1980, had issues with warping. I am currently driving a 2019 Elite. It has 77,000 miles. No warping after multiple tire rotations, tire replacements. In fact, it still has the original pads.

@@FourTheWheels 350 miles per tank is crazy.. I was on a trip and was looking for gas station when it neared 100 miles left. I still recall I got 650 miles on my ex 15 honda accord and it had like 12 gallon tanks only..

I live at around 400 ft elevation. I find the engine fully adequate but it would be nice if it had a bit more torque. This is most noticeable at highway speeds when you need to quickly pass another car. Haven’t driven it above 3,500 ft elevation. 10-speed’s low gear ratios in gears 1-3 make up for the torque during in town driving.
Our 2023 Honda pilot the passenger front seat is too narrow. I don’t feel like I’m sitting in the center. The armrest are good, but I think I’m twisting my body to sit in the center of the seat on the needs to make a wider seat.
I love the Pilot but I cant stand the rear side window design, they should have made the glass larger and more seamless with the side windows. It looks clunky but I love the design otherwise.
What i absolutely hate in HP2023 is a quality of paint (they saved a lot on clear coat) and driver avarness system when you actually need to move wheel to disable alarm. It is dangerous. What I will also improve is a noise from the engine (I am not a fun of F1 engine noise) and shaky feeling from suspension. Otherwise, the best buy for $
We're in the market for a Pilot (Touring). Thank you for sharing your actual day to day ownership observations. That wiper design is awful for those that have to deal with snow/freezing conditions. Not being able to leave them lifted is going to be a dangerous PITA dealing with frozen wipers. Not a fan of the braking during cruise control rather than downshifting. I could see it being chosen to warn tailgaters, but I'd much rather just downshift. That fuel range is disappointing for such a large vehicle. Our little budget sedan gets more! Now it's making me reconsider going with the Odyssey instead. Love the efficiency of a minivan but, man, are they ugly. Kia gets it with their Carnival, I'm just not a fan of their track record with reliability. How do you like the heated steering wheel? That and maybe the side step rails (for the kids) are the only optional add-ons we'd even consider.
Heated steering wheel works great. Heats up very quickly. I can remote start from a distance in a large parking lot (heated steering wheel comes on automatically in cold weather) and by the time I get to the car there’s already a lot of warmth felt from the wheel. Had an Odyssey prior. Most “functional” vehicle I’ve ever owned. Great road tripping vehicle with tons of space.
I am across the border up north and the Pilot comes with windshield warmer which deice the windshield where the wipers are with remote start and haven’t had an issue yet. Will see how this month performs when winter really starts and stuff kicks into higher gear.
Surprised you didn’t say a miss on this is the lack of a rearview mirror camera if the view is blocked by luggage or passengers…especially in top trim..
Great point. I should’ve included the lack of a digital rear view camera option as a nit pick. It was on my list at one point! Overall, though, haven’t noticed too many issues getting good views looking outside the vehicle if you get all your mirrors set up correctly.
That would be cool…a Type R Pilot?! Standard power is fine but a little more torque would be nice. Would be interesting if Honda offered the 2.0 turbo motor in the Pilot making somewhere around 300 hp and 310 ft lbs.
@@FourTheWheels I’m looking to get an exl in the future. I noticed prices drop on the pilot,passport and ridgeline much faster than Honda’s 4 cylinders. One can easily get a pilot exl for about $3-$5 less than stick with only several thousand miles on them. I like the hustle
I think the Acura version MDX skips the black plastic for paint for more upscale luxury look. I don’t think Honda really embraces luxury even in Elite model designs. I agree the texture makes cleaning difficult. In my ‘24 one annoying infotainment “feature “ is if I am listening to XM but my wife’s phone plays a video it changes the selected audio source and makes me go back repeatedly to the radio.
Funny…same issue happens with my wife and me! It can be a bit cumbersome switching between different phones for Apple CarPlay when you’re driving down the road and want to switch connected phones.
Honda service advisor told me he hasn’t heard of a steering recall on the 2023 Pilot. Nothing came up for my Pilot on VIN recall check. Issue appears to be on some other Honda vehicles.
The Styling is simply a enlarged version of the CRV. I dislike the push button transmission selector. Fake exhaust ports are a No No! I disagree about your No liking the Black plastic on higher Elite trim. Michelin Tires only Honda Management! I totally agree that the infotainment screen is ridiculous and should mimic ones like in the Subaru Ascent. Twenty Gallon gas tank should be the standard for all vehicles in this class! The Spare Tire needs to be inside the vehicle to prevent corrosion to the spare tire. The Gap is huge and unacceptable between the front and rear doors. I would like to see Honda eliminate the small window on the rear doors. The Mud Guards are fine. I am glad you pointed out the issued with raising the windshields wipers - No Good Honda!
Did a DIY oil change at 4200 miles (60% maintenance minder). Dealership change at 8400 miles (15% maint minder). Next DIY at 12400 miles (60% maint minder). Currently at 16950 miles and 20% maint minder. Planning to schedule a dealership oil change within next week.
I personally prefer Valvoline Premium Full Synthetic Extended Protection 0W-20. It’s a top tier oil. I always use a genuine Honda OEM oil filter. Check out my TH-cam video on how to do a DIY Pilot oil change.
If only the screen was integrated into the dashboard. Screens that are not integrated often require more maintenance due to physics. It is also more likely to break than those with an integrated screen.
How do the screens require more maintenance? It's still part of the dash and you wipe the frame like the rest of the dash? And what do you mean by physics? It just sits there and you poke at the screen, just like if it's in the dash. No difference in physics as far as I can tell.
Those would be nice standard items but from what I can tell very few if any manufacturers include those in the standard MSRP of the vehicle…and instead take the “opportunity” to charge the “small” sum of $199 for wheel locks and $499 for all weather floor mats (!).
proper fog lights only illuminate off to the side. It's to give you bearing when you can't see straight ahead. Your complaint is more with the headlights than the Fog lights. Flush mount and raised rails are not a trend. Some cars choose them others don't. Most higher end car have flush mount. Buy and Audi if you want those. Most vehicles competing with the Pilot have raised rail. Couldn't agree more on the Display. Honda will move on from it, but by then everyone else will be on to the next thing and they will still be lagging behind. I have the same trim level, I also have some higher end cars. I had hondas for many years, many years ago, we're back in one for the first time in 20 years. Honda needs to change their business model, they aren't competitive, and just riding the wave of being bulletproof. Not going to be a sustainable path for them. I honestly feel like I am driving a cheap chincy car compared to other cars I've owned. Honda is way behind in tech, and features, and overall quality. It's a decent "package" but it stops there.
Thx for the comments and observations. Fair point that side illumination is the primary benefit of fog lights. I own and have owned Hondas where the fog lights also added a bit of extra near lower front distance illumination so that’s where I base my observation. IMO the Subaru Ascent and Pilot have the most rugged and “old fashioned” looking roof rails. A quick pic search on Google shows many competitors (Telluride, Palisade, Grand Highlander, CX-90 as examples) using the low profile roof rails with others like the Explorer, Traverse, and Grand Cherokee going with something a bit in between. Interestingly, it also looks like Kia may have switched to the more rugged looking roof rails for their 2024 model. You’re right that the lower profile rails are more consistently present on luxury SUV models.
one more thing you can complain about is that it is not a dog-proof design. I personally don't like the push button for the brake, shift. I have a golden who sometime, will come up front and look at stuff when I am with her alone. 50% of the time her feet will hit the brake hold button. I used cardboard to cover up most of the buttons.
Under the seat still the same in 2024, I just don't look there! Most cars apile the brakes for cruise control going down hill, you could shut it off if its a big hill. You are picky like me. But I over look things because its a great car!
Yep, the cd player has gone the way of the 8-track and cassette decks! The temp gauge is on the bottom left of the IP - four bars equals normal temp. 360 camera was an important feature for me. Unfortunately only comes on Elite and Trailsport.
It is entirely unacceptable that some V8 engines in some fullsize trucks are getting better gas mileage than a V6 non-turbo engine in a midsize SUV. That alone doesn't just bother me, it makes me mad. What the hell, Honda? Seriously. What the hell?
Perhaps more than other brands there certainly is a lot of interior dash layout similarity among all Honda newer vehicles, particularly the instrument panel and infotainment system designs.
I wish if they build this car in Japan 🇯🇵 not in United States of America I would rather go with 2023,-4 4Runner or Genesis GV80 for reliability and durability !
Well…you haven’t had a leaking pano sunroof like so many of us have. Dealing Honda corporate was honestly a complete waste of time. Our pilot has had allot of things that broke, didn’t work, leaked and have had to be replaced. Honda quality has really gone down over the years and out of 4 pilots we have owned…this one has been the worst for quality.
My guess is because they would likely need some type of metal shroud around the exhaust tip or other heat resistant material to mitigate the heat transfer around the bumper and that adds cost…perhaps only a few extra bucks but when you’re building a vehicle with thousands of parts, every few bucks here and there adds up to real impact on the sticker price.
We have a 2023 HPD Elite Pilot and absolutely love it. I now have had 6 Acura/Honda cars and this by far is the best. Our phone charger works fantastic. The first one that has. Our 2021 honda passport didn't work at all. We don't even take our thick covers off to charge. Those of you who are worried about snow and ice on the wipers- it has a button that heats the wipers to melt the ice. Our radio stays on. Only goes off when door is open. Might be a setting to change yours. We do not have the gap in the door. We though do not get the gas mileage they talk about. We get 18 in town and 26 on highway. We keep the middle small seat in 2nd row stored in the area for it in back. The gap is perfect for our small dog carrier to fit in for our long trips. We have 4000 miles and bought it in August.
How is the acceleration? Some auto reviewers say it is a little slow or sluggish especially when full of people? Also any chance you live at a high elevation? Living at 5000ft does sap power from any non turbo cars. So it is helpful to us when people also living at high elevation describe the acceleration of the suv. Thanks
@@tjsullivan4793 The acceleration is ok. We live at 500 ft though. We did drive to Utah to see my son and he lives at 4400 ft. We only had two people but we were totally loaded down with dog and her stuff also. The only SUV I've had that got up and moved was my Ford Explorer ST. But Ford is having a lot of issues with their Explorers right now. My daughter had her 2023 for only 2 months and turned it back to dealer as a lemon.
@@tjsullivan4793 I've driven from 600-2kft and it is OK for us, but not that high up. The drive modes most definitely change the throttle response. ECON you almost have to get into 1/3 to 1/2 the throttle before it downshifts and takes off. Normal is better and Sport mode it downshifts so it's in the powerband. It's def no rocket ship but coming from a gutless 2012 Forester, it feels pretty good. I had a '14 WRX (for comparison) and the power seems comparable. Obviously a little slower due to the weight. But we had a fully loaded car (2 adults, 3 kids, dog, all our gear stacked in the 3rd row and trunk) and it wasn't much different accel wise than normal. Now, I will be towing a popup camper next summer, and that will be the ultimate test, because we are usually packed to the brim on top of towing the popup. And a loaded Thule cargo box. I'll try and get back to this for an update!

Just got a 2024 elite model and it’s awesome. I think it’s the smoothest overall car in the class. This powertrain is so smooth vs palisade, grand highlander, cx90. I find the car to be quieter than older Lexus Rx, Acura tls, and Infiniti g37have driven in the past. Tire noise is sometimes more pronounced but not bad to me. I agree with the criticism on interior design on the screens
I didn’t mention in video but the wind noise is also well contained. Just the tires on rough pavement that gets me. Overall just a great SUV to drive.

Also, I wish the rear bumper had about 2-inches of spacing away from the rear door to protect the whole rear-door. If I back towards a tree, I will be bumping the whole rear door instead of the so-called 'bumper'. There really is NOT a rear-bumper at all.

Yeah, the short bumper is a question mark when it comes to possibly easier denting of the tailgate in a minor bump. Fingers crossed I never need to “test” it!

Great review! I NEVER paid attention to the Pilots before, until I saw a video pop up here on TH-cam a couple months ago. After seeing the video, we went and test drove one a couple days later. I was absolutely amazed/surprised by the overall experience of the Pilot Elite. We've test driven the MDX, Infiniti QX60, Nissan Pathfinder, Lincoln Aviator, and none of them come close to the overall bang for your buck value that you get for the Pilot Elite. Only thing missing is a digital rear-view mirror and 12in infotainment.
A digital rear view mirror should also be included at least at the Elite trim level.

@@createdinHisimage1 no leaking issues for me. However, I have noticed a bit of flex in the pano roof cross member that supports the glass in the middle. Notice it flexing when closing the roof. Might be how it’s designed but it has caught my eye.
The windshield wipers have a maintenance mode that put the wipers up so you can pull them away from the windshield. Check your manual.

I’ve never understood why all manufacturers went away from column shifters. My 2008 pilot had the column shifter- so simple, never in the way.

On the parking brake situation, I had both an Acura RDX and Honda accord touring at the same time that worked opposite way. The way it’s designed is how the real parking/handbrake would work, in the RDX it’s push on the button (as if you are pushing down on the parking brake pedal) to turn on the emergency brake and on the accord it was pull-up (like pulling up on a handbrake). You can also set it to turn on the ebrake when you turn off the car.

Think of the parking brake control this way…pull up on the switch to engage like a “fly off” parking brake like old Hondas, push down to release. I have a 2020 RDX and engage the parking brake like the old-time “step-on” parking brake…push the switch; pull to disengage…like old cars. Just a thought.

I just got the 2024 Touring, upgraded from a 2019 LX. Most of your issues are shared with the touring. Everything is "fine" but the exhaust turndowns are such as copout.

Have been considering this vehicle for our next one but the wipers that can't be completely raised is a no-go in the northern climates with snow and freezing rain. Thanks for the review.
One consolation is that on my trim the electronic wiper deicer feature works well at the base of the windshield to melt any ice frozen to the wiper blades. Overall, though, the wiper arm design is a real PITA.
the bumper and lower rubber trim, I think it's down to final assembly at the plant. compare the bumper against the base model, no fake exhaust, but the bumper looks to be a clip on. Additionally, there's very little to separate the Elite from the Touring in looks.
In my honda ridgeline. It also turn off the radio when im turning off ignition. But if i want to continuosly use the radio after turning off the engine, i let the engine stay in drive mode before turning off the engine. For black trims, i applied ceramic coating and will stay vibrant
In your case does the push button electronic shifter not automatically put the tranny into park when the engine turns off (if not already in park), which then kills the radio? That’s what happens to me.
Another small issue- When you remove middle seat, you don’t have Armrests in the captain chairs.
I agree that’s the reason I was in between the 7 or 8 seater that very reason it’s not a captains chair without the arm rest

You mentioned a very good list of ideas, I was hoping that you would add another idea that in these days and age a camera recording front and rear of the car would help the driver and law Enforcements in case of a collision .
Interesting idea. One additional feature I do like a lot is the front view camera that turns on automatically and projects on the infotainment display when the Pilot gets close to an object like another car in a parking lot, front of your garage, or a curb.
I might buy one of these once more used ones pop up. My other choice is a GX 460 which can be had for mid 40s for one that's a couple years old

Not being able to keep the wipers in the up position is a major design flaw especially if you live in the Midwest in the winter. I’ve owned many vehicles of all make and never was unable to position the wipers in the up orientation. In the midwest during the winter the wiper blades will freeze to the windshield , not good, Thanks for the review.
You can keep the wipers in up position. This is not a design flaw.
My 2000 Acura 3.2 TL is like this.
We have 2007 Honda Ridgeline also like this.
With them, you have to turn key to on position not start. Turn wipers On. When they Raise up on windshield turn key Off.
Then you can lift off windshield.
The newer Pilot is about same just extra step. Also, you don't have key in ignition switch push button start with these vehicles.
@@fredmoss4540 actually from an engineer’s prospective it is a design flaw. I have a 2023 Ridgeline that does not have that issue. When you have to activate the wipers half way to pull them in the upright position it is an unnecessary step. When you attempt to raise the wipers for whatever reason and the hood prevents you from completing that task it’s absolutely not the way Honda intended it to be. Every vehicle I owned even the 6 figure vehicles I’ve owned did not have that design flaw. In closing it’s not a matter of opinion it is a “design oversight”, thanks

I have the same vehicle. What an outstanding review! I only have 6000 miles on mine now. I disabled the Variable Cylinder Management and Idle Start/Stop as I see no value in these features together with many downsides. Also, I’m somewhat concerned with intake valve carbon buildup due to the GDI engine design. I wish this engine had dual injection (GDI/multiport) as do Toyotas. Overall, though I agree with all the review points and am very happy with my Pilot.
Thx! Luckily Hondas don’t have a reputation for carbon buildup but it can occur on any DI engine. Can’t stand idle stop/start. Well done getting it turned off for good.
How did you disable the variable cylinder management and auto/stop feature?
Regarding the engine and comparing to Toyota/Lexus who I would argue are still the benchmark for engine durability etc why is Honda on a newly redesigned engine still using a timing belt and also like you say not using multiport to prevent carbon buildup on DI engines?

We test drove a 2034 Touring and I really like it. We have a 4Runner and it is highly modded for off-roading, especially at night. Hard to let it go but I miss having heated seats and leather seats that are comfortable. We can’t do sedans, I’m the size of a linebacker and they are also expensive to insure for us. (Thanks Nevada).

Thank you for the review of your Pilot. We also have a family of five and have a Sienna for daily driving. I am looking into a car for myself to commute through some mountain highways to work and for the occasional family trip into the mountains. What would you think about the Pilot as a commuter car? Is it too big? The third row also would prevent the kids from being on top of each other during those trip. I am also considering the Passport but it has the older engine/9 speed transmission and gets 1 MPG less on the hwy! Thank you for your time.
It’s certainly very comfortable. Commuter type driving may push your avg mpg into the lower 20s. Will say the “Sport” setting of the engine/transmission is a great setting for mountain driving with it keeping revs up into the power band and enough engine braking to not overwork the brakes. Don’t think I would like the vehicle for long stop and go commuting because the 1st gear ratio is so short that it will start to feel jerky after a while.

Can you tell me your perspective on the multicamera system on the Elite (shared with the Trailsport)? I cannot tell how useful it is in the real world situations or is it gimmick.
Appreciate your comment! I find the 360 multi-camera view very useful and worth it. 360 view is great for parking in tight spaces and the front camera automatically turns on when you get close to objects such as pulling into parking stalls with a car in front of you, a curb, garage front wall or objects in front of car, or shrubs in front of a parking spot. The 360 views turn off automatically when the vehicle passes 15 mph (and won’t display when going faster than 15 mph). The front view can also be turned on manually with a button on the end of the right stalk when below 15 mph.
I agree with everything brought out in this video. I recently purchased a 2024 Pilot Elite. I am disappointed with the heads-up display cut off on the right. My Volvo allows the HUD to be adjusted to the left. Also, I'm disappointed with the wireless charger. Nevertheless, I am overall happy with the vehicle, these are just "nits"
Unfortunate that the HUD can only be adjusted up and down. Seems like wireless charging is often a miss for most manufacturers.
I had a 1988 Chevy Blazer with heads-up and it was FANTASTIC. The 1990 Blazer had even more vivid colors. Since that time, NO vehicle has matched the distinctive display or the sun-shine-combative colorations, OR the range of viewing angles I don't know why. By the way, Chevy and GM dealers told me they never worked. Funny - we had FLEETS (3 doz each model year) and we never had one failure. These dealers made us leave them and move to Toyotas and Hondas instead because we didn't know what else Chevy/GM dealers would lie about.

Had a 2012 Odyssey before the 2023 Pilot. Yep, roughly the same experience with the rotors/brakes driving it 230k miles.
The lack of a step bumper on the back is regretful.
The push buttons for the transmission should be on the dash to make more workspace on the center console.
Totally agree on plastic body cladding! Borderline dealbreaker especially on the top trim
I think the push button controls definitely should move to the dash or even one of the steering wheel stocks (like some Chevy SUVs and other brands.) That would open up more space on the center console, and hopefully that would get rid of the piano black plastic trim. I *hate* piano black plastic! Oh, and that's a MONSTER door gap! Wow! Definitely early production issue (at least I hope.)
Thankfully Honda doesn’t use a lot of piano black plastic in the Pilot but the shifter button area is certainly noticeable. Yeah, early production issues what I suspect. Reported the gap to my dealership and they reported it to some kind of corporate Honda database for tracking.
yes, remove all the buttons for the console.. it is getting so annoying if you have a big dog.. it happened many times that my dog's feet pressed some of the buttons while I was driving. I used cardboard to cover them up..
I don’t like fake exhaust vents either but it’s appreciative thinking when it comes to loading the trunk. 4”exhaust pipes can be quite hot 🔥
For me, i like the position of the exhaust pipe directed to the ground. While loading up things at the back while warming up engine during winter, i think the smoke from muffler will not go straight to my leg. Not sure if this correct, i will know once i have my 2025 honda pilot at the end of april.
Good luck with your purchase! I have several other cars with straight dual exhausts and have never had any issues with smoke or heat, but angling down would mitigate the potential.
Love this Video, very informative! everything that he said is very realistic and accurate for me, though i can deal with most of everything that needed to be improved, there is 1 thing that i can not deal to buy this fantastic SUV, that is the gas tank for me, its the deal breaker for me, i need a 500 miles range vehicle if i spent 50k plus, after everything done , it's probably about 60k. Sorry Honda !
Thx for watching! If I’m easy on the gas and can eke out 27 mpg on the highway I can get close to 400 miles when the gas light comes on. If you’re going 75mph+ I’d expect around 340-360 miles. Gas tank size is disappointing, but it hasn’t been too much of an issue for us…but haven’t had to drive across the country, yet!
I don't have tjat gab on the doors, my radio stay on until I open the doors ,practically you can change about everything the way you want or not want as you like

I agree 100% about the cruise control, why it doesn't downshift or have a lax behavior blows my mind. I am constantly cancelling, and downshifting like you mentioned to hold hills that are miles long. I can just see what the other drivers are thinking, like why is this guy riding his brakes so much?? It also drives me nuts that it has no tolerance for coasting on a slight downhill. I get if you're coming up on a car, ya gotta brake. But there's literally nobody around and it brakes like there's a speedcheck ahead.
Also, I can't comment on the wireless charger much as it doesn't work with my particular phone case and iphone. Only if I take the phone out of the case, unfortunately.
You hit the nail on the head with the cruise control. Well said. It’s particularly annoying if you’re on a stretch of highway with a lot of small hills…downshifting to maintain speed up the hill and then constant, regular brake applications on the downside of the hill. The repeated pattern gets old and I have to turn off cruise.

Thank you for doing this review! Specifically addressing the tire noise. Our 2008 Odyssey has plenty of life left but the highway noise is a deal breaker for us. Maybe Acura is better with the NVH materials in the MDX although the Pilot seems to be a better at the day to day utility.
Ive been researching this segment for a long time now and it all seems to be full of comprimises. Overpay for the boaty Toyota GH due to dealer markups. Roll the dice on the experimental Cx90. Take out a 2nd mortgage for the luxury brands.
Ha, that’s a pretty good way of looking at it! We used to own a 2012 Odyssey. A little noisy as well but good quality tires and regular alignments kept the road noise down.
Was recently at the dealership and the service advisor stated that the tire compound on the Bridgestone Alenza is harder than many other tires, which can contribute to a bit more road noise. Next time I replace the tires I’m likely switching to Michelins.
Michelins tend to be some of the quietest tires on the road. I've got a pretty noisy freeway near me and I'm going to see how the MDX handles it. Certainly, the Pilot has its advantages from an interior usability standpoint. I could flip a coin on the pros and cons between those two vehicles.
I’ve had the best luck with higher end Goodyears and Michelins. Quiet and wear well. Tough call between MDX and Pilot. I drove them both and both are excellent. 3rd row is bigger in Pilot and my family needed that extra space.
FWIW I Turo'ed an MDX Aspec for two days. There was more noise on the highway than I expected but I suppose it was quiet enough. I also test drove a CX90 and it was quieter inside than the Acura. Both the Pilot and MDX are some of the last NA v6s with proven reliability. Every car has its pros and cons. I guess with Honda/Acura road noise is just part of it. As you said put some Michelins on it to make the best of it.

it is very common, in newer cars now, my wife has a Nissan SUV, same issue.. soon or later, the wiper arm will create rust to the hood.. it happened to my wife car since we need to lift it up to clean snow.. and after a few years.. "hit and hit.. and hit" == the paint will peel off and then water... and snow.. == rust..
How are the L2 semi-autonomous functionalities like lane keeping, lane following, adaptive cruise control?
I typically only use the adaptive cruise and lane keeping (i.e. semi autonomous steering). Both work fine. Only issue with lane keeping is it will sometimes want to take an interstate off ramp since it detects the right solid white line moving right.
Honda Pilot is the correct way for the parking brake. Acura needs to revisit. 😊
I agree that the radio should stay on. My 2011 Accord would keep the call going until it ended.
Panel gap I agree with. I was surprised to see poor alignment and gaps in Honda North America product. Speaks to culture and reflects poorer QC, design issues as well and lack of pride in workmanship. Plan to take mine to the authorized body shop.

Think of the parking brake control this way…pull up on the switch to engage like a “fly off” parking brake like old Hondas, push down to release. I have a 2020 RDX and engage the parking brake like the old-time “step-on” parking brake…push the switch; pull to disengage…like old cars. Just a thought.
The Honda pilot is awesome omg there isn’t a vehicle out there that doesn’t have things wrong with them !!! But overall it is the best of all SUVs and if you need a 12” screen get glasses gee wiz

I suspect this is why Honda dropped the exhaust further under the rear.
Also can the HUD display position be adjusted? The one in my Hyundai can.
The HUD can only be adjusted up and down. Direct exhaust outlets have never impacted the parking sensors on my other Hondas.
Regarding the small infotainment system display, it is disappointing that its smaller than the the other cars in this class. But have you found the size to be an actual problem in real life usage? Also, how are the safety features on the pilot? On my 2016 Odyssey the phantom brake warnings are too sensitive and not useful.
It would be nice to have some more “real estate” on the screen but I have not found it to be a problem. The menus on the screen are simple to navigate to what you want from the infotainment system. And, it has yet to glitch on me. Safety features work as designed and work well. Only minor concern for me is in certain bright light conditions it can sometimes be difficult to see the blind spot yellow warning light on the outside mirrors - for me not enough color contrast from the yellow warning light to the silver mirror finish of the side mirrors.
It's just a minivan without the sliding doors that's all it's still a beautiful
You should be able to put the wiper blades up after you turn the car off and use the windshield wipers so that they stop halfway up the front window amd then pull them off the glass.
I will try that, thx. On my 2020 RDX the wipers automatically return to the down setting when you turn the car off.

On my 1990 Acura Legend, Honda has a “winter” switch for the wipers that would park the wipers above the hidden area of the hood so that you could lift up the wipers to scrape, etc. Brilliant idea I wish they never get rid of.
Im not sure but I think the vehicle doe's slow down using the transmission, the breaks come on for safety feature
Not sure but I’d guess the plastic at the bottom on the sides of the vehicle is there to reduce exposure to rust. Those are the first parts of the car to rust typically so making them out of plastic provides some protection there.
They mostly just cover up the metal at the bottom of the door. At least with the plastic it doesn’t get chipped from rocks being kicked up from the tires.
Is there a way to move the wiper blades when the car is off? In my VW GTI you push down on the wiper stalk after turning the ignition off, and they sweep to the "up" position where they can be serviced.
Here’s what the owner’s manual says…
“Set the power mode to VEHICLE OFF.
While holding the wiper switch in the MIST position, set the power mode to ON, then to VEHICLE OFF.
Both wiper arms are set to the maintenance position as shown in the image.” The image then shows the wipers in a 90 degree position (pointing skyward).

Add to con ... passenger sest is only 4 way. Can't adjust up and down to make it 6 way, which most competitors have, especially on top trim.

Yeah, I can't believe Honda wasn't benchmarking Telluride/Palisade/Highlander when they decided on the infotainment screen size. I get that they need to leave something for the mid-cycle refresh, but 9 inches? It's serviceable but just barely.

The wiper thing might be a deal breaker for me, as I live in Wisconsin and park outdoors. We always prop the wipers up to clear snow and ice off the windshield and not being able to do that would be incredibly annoying. Never would have thought to look for that. Thanks for pointing it out!
You’re able to do it, you put the wipers in service mode now though. I had a VW that did the same thing, imo not a big hassle
I agree that Honda has solved the brake warping issue. I’ve owned 6 Hondas going back to 1980, had issues with warping. I am currently driving a 2019 Elite. It has 77,000 miles. No warping after multiple tire rotations, tire replacements. In fact, it still has the original pads.

On the official Honda website, the 2023-2024 is only a 17.5 gallon gas tank. My older 2012-2015 pilot was 21 gallons gas tank. = more range.
Page 790 of my owner’s manual states capacity at “18.5 US gal”. And the yes, it’s a big owners manual that comes with the 2023 Pilot!
@@FourTheWheels 350 miles per tank is crazy.. I was on a trip and was looking for gas station when it neared 100 miles left. I still recall I got 650 miles on my ex 15 honda accord and it had like 12 gallon tanks only..
How is the acceleration? Some auto reviewers say it is a little slow or sluggish especially when full of people? Also any chance you live at a high elevation? Living at 5000ft does sap power from any non turbo cars. So it is helpful to us when people also living at high elevation describe the acceleration of the suv. Thanks
I live at around 400 ft elevation. I find the engine fully adequate but it would be nice if it had a bit more torque. This is most noticeable at highway speeds when you need to quickly pass another car. Haven’t driven it above 3,500 ft elevation. 10-speed’s low gear ratios in gears 1-3 make up for the torque during in town driving.

Our 2023 Honda pilot the passenger front seat is too narrow. I don’t feel like I’m sitting in the center. The armrest are good, but I think I’m twisting my body to sit in the center of the seat on the needs to make a wider seat.

I love the Pilot but I cant stand the rear side window design, they should have made the glass larger and more seamless with the side windows. It looks clunky but I love the design otherwise.
What i absolutely hate in HP2023 is a quality of paint (they saved a lot on clear coat) and driver avarness system when you actually need to move wheel to disable alarm. It is dangerous. What I will also improve is a noise from the engine (I am not a fun of F1 engine noise) and shaky feeling from suspension. Otherwise, the best buy for $

That wiper design is awful for those that have to deal with snow/freezing conditions. Not being able to leave them lifted is going to be a dangerous PITA dealing with frozen wipers.
Not a fan of the braking during cruise control rather than downshifting. I could see it being chosen to warn tailgaters, but I'd much rather just downshift.
That fuel range is disappointing for such a large vehicle. Our little budget sedan gets more!
Now it's making me reconsider going with the Odyssey instead. Love the efficiency of a minivan but, man, are they ugly. Kia gets it with their Carnival, I'm just not a fan of their track record with reliability.
How do you like the heated steering wheel? That and maybe the side step rails (for the kids) are the only optional add-ons we'd even consider.
Heated steering wheel works great. Heats up very quickly. I can remote start from a distance in a large parking lot (heated steering wheel comes on automatically in cold weather) and by the time I get to the car there’s already a lot of warmth felt from the wheel. Had an Odyssey prior. Most “functional” vehicle I’ve ever owned. Great road tripping vehicle with tons of space.
I am across the border up north and the Pilot comes with windshield warmer which deice the windshield where the wipers are with remote start and haven’t had an issue yet. Will see how this month performs when winter really starts and stuff kicks into higher gear.

Surprised you didn’t say a miss on this is the lack of a rearview mirror camera if the view is blocked by luggage or passengers…especially in top trim..
Great point. I should’ve included the lack of a digital rear view camera option as a nit pick. It was on my list at one point! Overall, though, haven’t noticed too many issues getting good views looking outside the vehicle if you get all your mirrors set up correctly.
Let us know when the crackling starts from the head unit into the speakers. Oh and the constant dropping of all audio.

That would be cool…a Type R Pilot?! Standard power is fine but a little more torque would be nice. Would be interesting if Honda offered the 2.0 turbo motor in the Pilot making somewhere around 300 hp and 310 ft lbs.

@@FourTheWheels I’m looking to get an exl in the future. I noticed prices drop on the pilot,passport and ridgeline much faster than Honda’s 4 cylinders. One can easily get a pilot exl for about $3-$5 less than stick with only several thousand miles on them. I like the hustle

I think the Acura version MDX skips the black plastic for paint for more upscale luxury look. I don’t think Honda really embraces luxury even in Elite model designs. I agree the texture makes cleaning difficult. In my ‘24 one annoying infotainment “feature “ is if I am listening to XM but my wife’s phone plays a video it changes the selected audio source and makes me go back repeatedly to the radio.
Funny…same issue happens with my wife and me! It can be a bit cumbersome switching between different phones for Apple CarPlay when you’re driving down the road and want to switch connected phones.
Wireless charger on my 2022 F150 does the same thing. It’s pretty much a phone heater, not a charger.

Not all are affected. Call a dealer and give them your VIN. They can tell you if your vehicle has a recall
Honda service advisor told me he hasn’t heard of a steering recall on the 2023 Pilot. Nothing came up for my Pilot on VIN recall check. Issue appears to be on some other Honda vehicles.
The Styling is simply a enlarged version of the CRV. I dislike the push button transmission selector. Fake exhaust ports are a No No! I disagree about your No liking the Black plastic on higher Elite trim. Michelin Tires only Honda Management! I totally agree that the infotainment screen is ridiculous and should mimic ones like in the Subaru Ascent. Twenty Gallon gas tank should be the standard for all vehicles in this class! The Spare Tire needs to be inside the vehicle to prevent corrosion to the spare tire. The Gap is huge and unacceptable between the front and rear doors. I would like to see Honda eliminate the small window on the rear doors. The Mud Guards are fine. I am glad you pointed out the issued with raising the windshields wipers - No Good Honda!

Did a DIY oil change at 4200 miles (60% maintenance minder). Dealership change at 8400 miles (15% maint minder). Next DIY at 12400 miles (60% maint minder). Currently at 16950 miles and 20% maint minder. Planning to schedule a dealership oil change within next week.
Whats your oil and filter of choice ?
I personally prefer Valvoline Premium Full Synthetic Extended Protection 0W-20. It’s a top tier oil. I always use a genuine Honda OEM oil filter. Check out my TH-cam video on how to do a DIY Pilot oil change.
If only the screen was integrated into the dashboard. Screens that are not integrated often require more maintenance due to physics. It is also more likely to break than those with an integrated screen.
How do the screens require more maintenance? It's still part of the dash and you wipe the frame like the rest of the dash? And what do you mean by physics? It just sits there and you poke at the screen, just like if it's in the dash. No difference in physics as far as I can tell.
The 2016 and 17 pilot screens were integrated into the dash. I’m not sure when they changed that.
RJ we just got a 2024 Elite . Very disappointed .Does not even come with wheel locks ,Or all weather floor mats . For the price !!!
Those would be nice standard items but from what I can tell very few if any manufacturers include those in the standard MSRP of the vehicle…and instead take the “opportunity” to charge the “small” sum of $199 for wheel locks and $499 for all weather floor mats (!).

proper fog lights only illuminate off to the side. It's to give you bearing when you can't see straight ahead. Your complaint is more with the headlights than the Fog lights. Flush mount and raised rails are not a trend. Some cars choose them others don't. Most higher end car have flush mount. Buy and Audi if you want those. Most vehicles competing with the Pilot have raised rail. Couldn't agree more on the Display. Honda will move on from it, but by then everyone else will be on to the next thing and they will still be lagging behind. I have the same trim level, I also have some higher end cars. I had hondas for many years, many years ago, we're back in one for the first time in 20 years. Honda needs to change their business model, they aren't competitive, and just riding the wave of being bulletproof. Not going to be a sustainable path for them. I honestly feel like I am driving a cheap chincy car compared to other cars I've owned. Honda is way behind in tech, and features, and overall quality. It's a decent "package" but it stops there.
Thx for the comments and observations. Fair point that side illumination is the primary benefit of fog lights. I own and have owned Hondas where the fog lights also added a bit of extra near lower front distance illumination so that’s where I base my observation. IMO the Subaru Ascent and Pilot have the most rugged and “old fashioned” looking roof rails. A quick pic search on Google shows many competitors (Telluride, Palisade, Grand Highlander, CX-90 as examples) using the low profile roof rails with others like the Explorer, Traverse, and Grand Cherokee going with something a bit in between. Interestingly, it also looks like Kia may have switched to the more rugged looking roof rails for their 2024 model. You’re right that the lower profile rails are more consistently present on luxury SUV models.
one more thing you can complain about is that it is not a dog-proof design. I personally don't like the push button for the brake, shift. I have a golden who sometime, will come up front and look at stuff when I am with her alone. 50% of the time her feet will hit the brake hold button. I used cardboard to cover up most of the buttons.

Under the seat still the same in 2024, I just don't look there! Most cars apile the brakes for cruise control going down hill, you could shut it off if its a big hill. You are picky like me. But I over look things because its a great car!
The overall greatness of the complete package certainly makes it easier to live with the nit picks!

The Elite basically has a bench seat when you want it or captain chairs by removing the center seat. It’s a great design and works well.
I believe wireless charging only work great with androi phone but Iphone.
Had the wireless charger checked out by Honda dealership. Service advisor said phones won’t build a charge if wireless Apple Car play is on.
I bought a 23 Pilot Touring and here are my peeves: Bad=no engine temp gauge, Worse=No 360 degree camera. And what really pisses me off=no CD player.

Yep, the cd player has gone the way of the 8-track and cassette decks! The temp gauge is on the bottom left of the IP - four bars equals normal temp. 360 camera was an important feature for me. Unfortunately only comes on Elite and Trailsport.
It is entirely unacceptable that some V8 engines in some fullsize trucks are getting better gas mileage than a V6 non-turbo engine in a midsize SUV. That alone doesn't just bother me, it makes me mad. What the hell, Honda? Seriously. What the hell?

Perhaps more than other brands there certainly is a lot of interior dash layout similarity among all Honda newer vehicles, particularly the instrument panel and infotainment system designs.

Well…you haven’t had a leaking pano sunroof like so many of us have. Dealing Honda corporate was honestly a complete waste of time. Our pilot has had allot of things that broke, didn’t work, leaked and have had to be replaced. Honda quality has really gone down over the years and out of 4 pilots we have owned…this one has been the worst for quality.

Why in the world would Honda skimp on putting true exhaust tips???WHY??
My guess is because they would likely need some type of metal shroud around the exhaust tip or other heat resistant material to mitigate the heat transfer around the bumper and that adds cost…perhaps only a few extra bucks but when you’re building a vehicle with thousands of parts, every few bucks here and there adds up to real impact on the sticker price.
