    Beast of a light, 2,5hrs on full power enough in the dark. Smell that fresh air, love it!

    Great light, I find it feels like your going faster at night, it really is a cool sensation, also the trail you know so well in the daylight, can have some un-expected surprises riding it at night, feels like a completely new trail.

    Honestly while watching your video the memories of night riding instantly kicked in. I've been riding my mountain bike at night for the past 3 years now and I haven't been on a night ride since July. I might just text a friend this upcoming weekend to hit some trails together, thanks for the inspiration Mctrails!!!! Keep up the good work, also I really love your videos, they're my type! ❤👍👍👍👍👍😄😁

    It's definitely the right amount. I run a Magicshine "Ray 3000" out front and an "Alty 1500" on my helmet & find that I'm looking for more light on faster descents🤔
    But what a thrill to ride in the dark! I find it more engaging as a tunnel of light with no distractions in you're peripheral vision centralises your focus on the trail and the central spot of light flattens out the terrain and defines the contours of the rocks, giving more confidence. Best ride for me, a Mountain, full moon, clear skies and no wind 😏

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah, the tunnel of light is difficult for me, turns out I need the peripheral vision for balance😬

    Sometimes it's not so much the power of the light that limits me, but it's that feeling that someone is following me, that you're not alone in the middle of the woods, which is why I don't prefer to go on night rides 😂

      @McTrailRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m going to pin your comment Simon, because people are saying two things about this light that I don’t feel are fair. What you’ve said helps back me up a bit.
      1: they don’t think that the quality is good on Magicshine.
      2: the price is too much
      This annoys me, as the quality is very good and the price when compared to their equivalent from competitors is excellent.

      @@McTrailRider I think they are too expensive, but i'll try to explain why...... the price is too much for most people. I've ridden for years with two generic lights which cost £45 each, they've handled everything from the hardest Enduro stuff to way-out-there natural mountain stuff, some benefits......
      1) it's cheap, you don't need to spend a lot for a good light.
      2)damaging or losing a light is not a problem, and this happens.
      3) Night riding is good, but people don't do it that much in reality, money saved can be spent on other things :)
      4) and this is a big one........my cheap setup has no cables......external batteries and leads are the biggest faff ever, and they let water in, no matter how waterproof they do this more that internal batteries. My lights run for four hours on high and six hours on normal, it's more than enough, especially when carrying some other emergency light.
      So, £500 for this......plus helmet lights, it's a lot of money. You will need this to last years and years and ride a lot to get any benefit from it. They are brighter than any other light though, but for most people it's not needed I don't think. Look, I understand for someone in the dark mountains for hours on end with no signal, a MTB guide etc etc, and for people who know they will be night riding regularly for year to come, they have benefits. But, for your average weekend warrior, they are too expensive.
      I guess, when you get given kit to basically make an advert you can't make theses points, but it should be balanced. If you want two hours around a trail centre every now and again, you don't need to spend £500.

    @-A.n.d.r.e.w- ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah man! Night riding is so much fun! Especially on such a nice trail! That really is a lot of light! Personally I'd prefer it if they'd done something about the harsh cutoff on the spot. On all the slow to mid speed stuff there was a bit too much hot spot which reduces the benefit of the floods cos your eyes adjust to the bright patch and don't see too the sides well enough. A smoother transition in the beam would really make this a 10/10 light. Looked great on the fast sections though - so much throw!

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The defined cut off is intentional, think it may be a new eu regulation for road use. I didn’t personally notice the transition overly between the two.
      Perhaps it can be adjusted in the app🤔

      @McTrailRider Ah, ok, that would make sense. Ive heard of the vertical cut off laws but not width.

    Runtime would be my question on this light. I have a Magicshine RN3000 with a 10000mwh battery and they quote about 2.5hours on full. So how do they get 12000lm to run for 2.5 hours on the same capacity battery?

    I still dont think they have a superior beam pattern over some lights like outbound evo or infun GT200 and raveman xr6000..
    They simply try and overcompensate max lumens for their lack of quality beam pattern
    12000 lumens for how long though? 5 to 15 minutes before the thermal overload protection kicks in and dials it down to 3-4k lumens?

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you used this light?
      I haven’t used the ones you mentioned, so couldn’t compare. I have heard good things about the Outbound lights though.

      @@McTrailRider I borrowed one to get a beam shot in my usual trail spot i test lights.
      The outbound it nice, bit i personally think it coild use more lumens for a better perceived lighting.
      Wider a beam, dimmer it looks even though you see more usable area
      Theres still a fine balance between beam pattern and lumens
      And your eyes will adjust so you may not perceive that lumen loss, but it does happen...no way for something that small cased with that amount of lumens to stay cool and not drop off
      They program it to drop off so many lumens after so many minutes gradually
      At Least thats what the raveman xr6000 does.
      Start off at 6k..lowest itll go in high is 3k ish

      After a quick Google search, I’m not sure I agree with you on this one.
      Lux appears to be the measure of light onto a 1m squared surface.

  • @Tumid1
    @Tumid1 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe you are just perpetuating the lighting arms race. The max. light output isn't as important as the beam pattern. If you have 2 lights with the same beam pattern, once you exceed a min. brightness (1500-2500 lumens) all you are doing is just making the path brighter & even if you are trying to go faster, you won't.
    I believe 2 modest handlebar flood lights mounted as widely spaced as possible & a helmet spot are a better solution. These lights are just another "mine is bigger than yours" marketing hype.

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I half agree with you on this one, but definitely not fully.
      I am lucky enough to have four different mountain bike lights, two headlights and two handlebar mounted ones.
      I have an 8000 and 12,000 lumen handlebar light. The 12,000 has better spread, albeit, with a different design. But the extra power does help at showing Trail details.
      I have an 1800 lumen exposure Diablo Mk14 and a Magicshine RN 2600 lumen headlights. The extra 800 lumens on the Magicshine is very noticeable and real word useful.
      Lumens isn’t everything, but it does make a difference.
      I would concede that there is diminishing returns above a certain level, but I would say it is nearer 6000 lumens and not 1500-2500. This is for me personally of course.
