    I love that you are doing a series of fairytale women especially Marie Antoinette watching you paint her face took my breath away. I was a porcelain doll artist long ago and I’ve never seen eyes painted as beautifully as the eyes you paint. The winter months is when I collect myself after the long summer and fall holiday season. I find that I can dream more and concentrate on any artistic projects ~ jewelry making, sewing, painting or working with clay. I do wish to someday take one of your classes, I am fascinated by the process of working with paper. Thank you for this and all of your episodes. Always enchanting and take me away to your lovely land. 💗

      Thank you Deborah! The upcoming series is not about Marie-Antoinette or fairy tales women it's about a french aristocrat who was very far from fairy tales. Yes it's true it's such a great season to focus and concentrate. Thank you! You are most welcome!

    I love autumn, winter, spring. I am like you, I'm not a fan of summer. Its just too hot and overbearing. I feel like a slug in the heat. Beautiful creations and video. We haven't had any snow yet this season. It's happening all around us, but sadly, not where I live.

    I'm absolutely a Fall/Winter lady! I find that the glaring light and oppressive heat of Summer just sucks the life right out of me, and I most definitely feel rather depressed during the season. The darker, cooler days fill me with much joy and contentment, and there's something magical about the feeling of safety and coziness that comes with being indoors during these times of the year.

    I love winter too. I like family time, the smell of comfort foods, hot tea, lots of quiet time. However, I do find all the social events rather too much at times. This is time we are suppose to slow down, but the holidays seem to keep everyone out and about. I find I am most creative in the winter.

J adore !! J ai hâte de voir la suite !

    Incontestablement inspirante..

    Another lovely video! I wish I could go walking in that beautiful forest as well. I also love winter. I find something to love in all the seasons, but I do find the cold easier to live with than the heat. In winter, the best thing is to snuggle up in fluffy clothes with my cat and a hot beverage. I have experiences of three different USA winters:
    1. New York City. I grew up in NYC, where you might expect winters to be uncomfortable and dirty, but the city was magical in the winter time - like the setting of a strange, modern, urban fairy tale. There's a novel, Winter's Tale, by Mark Helprin, that captures the time-blending magic of winter in NYC, in which snow and ice rule, and everyone seems to feel and experience the same things the same way for over 300 years. Even when it was unpleasant, there was a dreamlike quality to it. I remember one unusually warm December when it kept raining, and the rain turned to steam when it hit the pavement, and this ghostly fog filled every street and doorway. It was even misty inside the subway trains, because everyone would be wet when they boarded, and the heating in the trains would force their coats dry. All the trains smelled strongly of wet wool that month. It was so weird.
    But the real magic of NYC winters is in the snowfall. I remember drinking with my friends at a cozy pub in the historic South Street Seaport district. It was warm and crowded and noisy inside, we were drinking hot toddies, and through the big windows we watched the most perfect snow flying among the masts of sailing ships. I remember thinking this was one of those experiences I was sharing with 300 years of people who had gone drinking on the NY waterfront. Another time, it was midday, and I was walking across mid-town, near famous 5th Avenue. It was a sunny day, but we were having snow squalls, when individual clouds would dump brief mini snow storms that lasted just a few minutes. I could see brilliant sunshine pouring down the street I was heading towards, when suddenly, just as I reached the intersection, one of those snow squalls hit, and a huge dump of snow came flying down that sunny street on a burst of wind. I and everyone around me were caught in a blizzard and standing in bright sunshine at the same time. A man I didn't know and I looked at each other and laughed.
    We had a forested park in my NY neighborhood that looked a lot like the woods you go walking in. Three generations of my family spent countless hours there as children. It's the thing I miss most from my past.
    2. Vermont. When I lived in Vermont, the winters were wild. It felt like the wilderness coming right up to my door in the middle of Burlington, the biggest city in the state (which was still barely the size of a New York neighborhood). The cold swept down from Canada through the Champlain Valley and was so intense, it could literally freeze the tears in your eyes. The weather reports included frostbite indexes telling us how long our skin could be exposed before injury. I first moved there in the middle of a record snow season in January, with accumulated snow four feet deep and average daytime temperatures of -15 Fahrenheit (-26 Celsius). I had a winter outfit very much like yours then, only my gloves covered my fingers and I wore mittens over them, and I pulled my hood over my hat, plus thermal tights, two skirts - one cotton, one wool - a t-shirt under a thin wool turtleneck sweater under a bulky Nordic sweater I knit myself, all under the coat, with a scarf and snow boots.
    People in Vermont are very outdoorsy and love to go skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. The whole society is well adapted to the cold, and winter can be a lot of fun, although also a big challenge. Vermont winters are also very magical, though in different ways to NYC. Vermont gets "white nights" when the snow reflects every tiny shard of light like millions of mirrors and the whole night will be bathed in a general bluish or lavender glow, sometimes so bright you can read in it. Late winter (February) is when they make their legendary maple syrup and have "sugar on snow" parties when they use snow to freeze maple syrup into a candy. But the best thing is that the extreme cold freeze-dries the air, and the snow doesn't melt. No matter how much you walk on it, it stays dry and fluffy. And the air is so clear that when the sun shines, it's like being in the Alps. The air gets hot, but the snow still doesn't melt, and people start taking off all those layers of clothes. You can get a suntan on the snow on some days.
    My most magical winter experience was in Vermont. I was working in a small suburb, and I took a walk on my lunch break one day. There had been an ice storm, so every thing, every single twig on every tree, was covered in a thick coating of ice. There were also tall drifts and piles of snow everywhere. The sun was shining in the clear blue sky, and it turned all that ice and every snowflake into prisms, and I was walking through a landscape full of rainbows. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life so far.
    3. Massachusetts. Now I live in the Boston area, another seaport city, though the climate is very different from NYC. Boston's weather can get pretty grim, like the Puritans who built the place. We don't get the Canadian cold of Vermont or the open ocean winds of NYC. Boston lies on a border between colder inland weather patterns and warmer ocean weather patterns, which leads to lots of rain and storms, and the salt air melts it all down into slush and then ice. It's a tough place for people who suffer from seasonal affective disorder or otherwise find winter a sad season. But there's still coziness and magic to be found.
    The charm of Boston winters is indoors, staying warm at home, drinking that hot chocolate, but the magic is in spotting who else is out in the snow and ice. There's a surprising amount of wildlife living in the metro Boston area. I like to go walking when the weather permits and see how the birds and small animals are doing, and what other, larger animal tracks I can find. I go winter wildlife-spotting down by the Mystic River and Boston Harbor. It's a crowded, busy city indeed, and not just full of human beings. I keep track of more than 30 bird species that stay through the winter in my immediate neighborhood, plus many other animals. They seem to do very well, and as long as they do, I guess I do, too.
    But I think my favorite magic is when I'm going to bed at night, and I snuggle down under my blankets and listen to the weather - rain, sleet, snow, etc. - hitting the window, and the wind whistling or howling. It might feel more like a Dickens novel than a fairy tale, but there's a kind of magic to it. That sound is a strange, puritanical kind of lullaby.

      Thank you Jen , you are a real american winter expert ! Thank you for sharing you winter experiences , it's very interesting especially forus who don't know all these differences. that's for sure the best thing to do in winter, oh yes being warm in bed whenthere is a gentle tempest outside is so enjoyable, oh yes Dickens novel have their own magic too! Absolutely ! Thank you!!

    Winter is completely my absolute favourite season! Even though where I live in the Cape in South Africa where we don't have your absolutely divine magical snow and have rain and cold, for me it is the time to do walks along the beach, in nature and up the mountain. My ancestry is Celtic and the cold is in my genes, which makes it tough living in Africa! Watching your video with your big lovely coat I had this intense overwhelming urge to just want to lie down on that snow and roll around in it and snuggle into it so badly!! I too completely love the quiet in winter, you can just feel nature is breathing a sigh of relief after hot summers while it slumbers and rests. It is a time of self reflection and inward turning and dreaming. I like the invigorating snap of the cold and it too makes me feel more alive, my senses and mind are much sharper! I can do so much more work, while in Summer too much heat makes one sluggish! Probably why the Northern regions of the world are more industrious and developed than the South as the longer months of Summer heat for example in Africa just make one want to fall asleep like a lion in the shade a tree!

    • @Merveillesenpapier
      @Merveillesenpapier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can imagine winters in South Africa are very different than here! For a celtic lady like you yes you would need to spend your summers here in the north of Europe to reconnect with the cold and snow,...yes it's very surely the reason, the mindset is pretty different between the south and the north, hope your smmers days will not be too intense this year! but you have other sort of magic where you live and the beauty of the ocean and a nice weather most of the time and a beautiful wild nature. :)

    I enjoyed this video with a cappuccino ☕and apple cake and feel much more relaxed. I love a walk in the snow, the footsteps make such a beautiful sound. I had a lot of hot chocolate this winter, and I also love Christmas and my Birthday in January. It happens to fall on a longer Holiday weekend in the US. (Same as Martin Luther King Junior )I always get lots of flowers from colleagues and friends. But honestly, now I am very much looking forward to spring. The birds and my yard is my favorite in spring. Your Marie Antoinette is delightful, and I am excited to see her finished. I cleaned out my bookshelves today and took a lot of books to the little donation libraries along my walk. It's nice to share and make space for new treasures. I do keep my antique books and my favorites. Some books I get as presents are good to read once, and then pass on.📚 Also your mom's coat looks perfectly cozy and beautiful on you. Lovely video and I love your coat. It is Summer here in Australia, but I love the cooler months especially Autumn and Winter too. I've never been able to tolerate the heat and there are only so many ways you can keep cool lol. But in Winter I like wearing warm clothes, and spending days off work at home when it rains - but don't enjoy driving to work in the rain especially when you can't see the road. I like chocolate too and Marie Antoniette was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you Katie, yes with the heat there is nothing to do but enduring it, cold you can always manage and there are many ways to manage it in some way. • @Merveillesenpapier
      @Merveillesenpapier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Ellen. I woudl say that I'm "a little" suspicious of those dna tests. Here in France they are not very popular as you can have access for free to any city hall archives and find your ancestors directly very easily till mid 18th or early 18thcentury, and those I know and in my family who have done it, all our family members in the past centuries all were farmers or peasants working in the fields, not a single drop of blue blood in our veins at all!! ;), so I find that ironical that people on the other sides of the world who pay for those tests are all descendants of famous historicals characters in some way . But it's just my opinion,but thank you, if you are interested in her you will enjoy what you will see I hope, Thank you for your message Ellen !

      @@Merveillesenpapier I agree. Mine was a gift so I did not pay for it. My ancestors were poor & yes they were farmers too. It is strange to think about being related to royalty when I know my family were not wealthy or royalty. It was a good laugh for me & my siblings. Your creations are so beautiful & I enjoy your vlogs. They transport me to the fairy tales of childhood & I Thank you for that.

    I think if it snowed here it would make winter more bearable. It just rains and we flood because the water table were I live is very high. Then it hits freezing and there's ice everywhere. I got diagnosed with Hashimoto's last year and one symptom is not being able to cope with weather extremes. I do love listening to rain and thunder though 😊 xx

    • @Merveillesenpapier

      Rain doesn't compete with snow that's for sure, and flood even less !That's not a very poetic winter experience.... in the meantime enjoy your summer, hopefully it's not too warm yet.

      @@Merveillesenpapier this has to be the coldest and wettest summer I've ever experienced. Where we live, Mid-Murray Region, we have had flooding from the River Murray. Apparently the last time that happened was back in the 70's. All the old farmers can't believe it's happened again. We're expecting this winter to be very cold and wet. Not sure if things will ever return to "normal" but the good thing about having a wet summer is the likelihood of having another devastating bushfire is reduced substantially.

    I love spring, not winter. It is to cold for me. But I love snow, when I don't need to go for work. I'am a little afraid when driving a car when there is snow or ice. We had 1 day snow last week, but it is all gone. Last year was more snow and I walked to my work. It is only 3 km but very early in the morning and I don't like to walk in the dark. It is funny, but my animals (donkey, sheep and goats) don't like the cold too. They stay inside, everywhere else they walk outside.

    • @Merveillesenpapier
      @Merveillesenpapier  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can imagine your animals prefer all the other seasons better than winter; grass is less delicious in winter for them , (you have a big animals family ! )and yes driving in winter can be stressful.
