With low casting cost instant like Ephemerate, Cloudshift and Flicker of Fate, it seems like an Isochron Scepter would do wonders to get you repeated flickers until your combo pieces falls in.
i will throw this here: if anyone is looking for a more thematic and lower power build of preston, look no further: modular. It works both off of etb and dies triggers, and modular creatures are naturally 0/0 so your army actually starts off strong :D
I fail to see how modular plays well with Preston’s ability. Tokens created by Preston are 0/1 white illusions (non-artifact). Modular says to put its counters on an artifact creature when it enters the ‘yard. And Modular creature are spells that are cast with a static ability to add the tokens. It gets a triggered ability on death.
@@Acadieman i may be wrong so no problem if you correct me, but from what i understand, modular simply refers to the creature entering the battlefield, so counters would be added to the copies as they enter. Since preston only refers to the creatures subtype as a value that changes, all other copiable values should stay the same including the card types, making the copies artifact creatures-illusions that are white.
True, good point the tokens would enter with the static Modular effect and gain those +x /+x counters. They would still only be able to give the tokens from the death triggers to non illusion tokens, like other non token Modular artifact creatures. I agree It would be a good way to get some stronger tokens ETBs with Modular.
@@Acadieman pardon me though but i think the tokens would still be artifact creatures if im not wrong? and yes a few sac outlets would do great in this case.
Weathered Wayfairer would be worth an include here. You have to be behind on lands BUT it does let you tutor for ANY land. Thawing Glaciers is another great card for any deck running primarily basics. It's a land that lets you tutor for any basic land and put it into play (Does not count towards your land drop for turn). It, and any lands you tutor with it, do come in tapped though. Also I would count this as a spell instead of a land as it doesn't actually tap for mana.
keep in mind flicker effects are not the only thing that can take advantage of Preston's ability, you can also make great use of reanimation spells like "Late For Dinner" or "sevinne's Reclamation" to trigger it, also preston can take advatage of more than just ETB's but static abilities aswell, such as put a copy of "Wandering Archatic" in the deck and have fun copying their spells twice, or have them tax'd for 2 and 2. or get extra ramp or card draw with "Archivist of Oghma" and "Deep Gnome Terramancer" (also love how these last 2 cards combo with "Path to Exile", "Winds of Abandon" also "ghost quarter")
Also saw a comment on "Aerial Extortionist", not only does it let you exile more, but its static ability will let you draw twice the cards with the illusion copy on the Board !!
Abdel Adrian is also a very good include. Doesn't benefit from the the illusions himself cause of legendary, but he enables blinking the rest of your board while making a bunch of blockers. And combos with mana rocks + Eldrazi Displacer.
Abdel can also enable a rather cute trick with Skybind if you feel like something janky. Abdel can blink anything that isn't a land. Skybind can blink anything that isn't an enchantment. You can have Abdel blink Skybind (Yes, it counts itself though any enchantment would work if you have Skybind out) and have Skybind blink a land. This enables some fun shenanigans like blinking an opponents Gaea's Cradle (Skybind isn't limited to stuff you control) or blinking a Nykthos to reset it or blinking a plains to trigger your Emeria Shepherd.
Just a curious question, why not run Lightning Greaves over Swiftfoot Boots? They do the same thing with the same cost, except Greaves is free cost to equip to other creatures. So it costs you one less cheaper to use and can fully give all your creatures haste of need be. (Not that 0/1 flickers would do damage unless you had the enchantment that buffed tokens.)
Great question! The shroud granted by lightning greaves prevents us from targeting the equipped creature with our flicker spells, so we thought it best to leave it out 🙂
@@AffinityForCommander I just looked it up yesterday, I understand. It probably doesn't matter with the plains ramp you get from ETB and Land Tax. Thanks 😁
Would highly recommend Trading Post, Springjack Shepherd, and Springjack Pasture for a very nice value package. Springjack Shepherd makes goat tokens on etb equal to your devotion to white (technically Chroma but works exactly like Devotion). Springjack Pasture can tap for a colorless, make a goat token for 4, OR you can sac X goats to gain THAT much mana of any color and THAT much life. Trading Post will let you discard to gain life, pay life to make a goat token, sac a creature to get an artifact back from your graveyard, or sac an artifact to draw a card.
@@AffinityForCommander And in a blink deck even nicer.^^ Particularly nice with Preston as blinking her gets you goats and then the 0/1 copy that Preston makes gets you even MORE goats. And the Trading Post and Springjack Pasture gives you something VERY useful to do with them.^^
I included Emeria Shepherd wich I think is a great inclusion as well. Also my new favorite white creature from BRO loran of the third path. I might have forgot, but in case you forgot, maybe consider welcoming vampire, since the tokens are 0/1
I saw quite a lot lists and also yours now and wanna make some additons nobody really mentions First i think you can take out acrobatic maneuver and add astral drift, since it does with the cycling ability pretty much the same just being uncounterable and you can play a lil subtheme with those cycling lands Also luminous broodmoth is undervalued since you can revive the creatures which make tokens and once they are flickedered they lose the counters and can be reanimated again And finally combat thresher, it cost only one more then the wall of omens and the dog but has way better stats and also double strike once its flickered Also the copies can get really menacing when they gettibg buffed and since my deck goes for a wide token board with hymn effects its even better
Sunscorched Desert offers you a way to win off of Felidar Guardian loops. No need for combat. I went much lower to the ground in my list with some stax effects, but for lower power I guess cutting that out is best. Extraction Specialist is really nice to get back something and get a copy with preston out. Recomission is strong with it, since you two extraction specialists and then get four total cards off of them. Not sure how i feel about Annointed Procession. At first it looks really nice, but it's irrelevant with the flicker loops since you're going infinite anyway.
@@AffinityForCommander FIrst time watching a video of yours. About a year into Magic commander. I'm actually building your Preston deck now.
