Just got one for the sidewalk outside my home in San Francisco. Looking forward to working with it over the years. Thanks for the video and information. I believe it will thrive where I have it. Northern facing, good distance from the front of my home, and the climate is ~60° all year.

I have a 40-year-old female podocarpus in Cupertino. It has been a nightmare for me. Too many fruits and too many leave droppings to keep the ground clean. None of my gardeners know how to trim or prune it. You can have it free if you want to come get it.

I'm glad it helped. I wish this kind of thing was around when I took plant i.d. Where are you taking it? I took mine at Cal Poly SLO. My hope is that these videos will help dsigners better understand how plants really behave so they can make better design choices with them. I just planted one. It's about nine feet tall.
How quickly can I expect it to grow in the first few months? Year?

I had one at my home that I recently sold in Martinez California. It was about 10 years old and looking really good. Depending on the container size that you planted, it may be a few years before you see some serious growth. The cliché is: first year they sleep, second year creep, third year leap. Fertilize in the spring and you may want to do a little research on the best ratios. I really nice evergreen, not messy and I’m planting one in my new home in El Dorado Hills.

man thats a nice tree but too big for my needs I think.. I was gonna buy around 10-15 of them to plant them along my 173 ft fence facing the street for privacy..I live in the city of clovis california on a cornel lot. Is there anyway to keep them shorter, like 10 ft tall and maybe 4 feet wide? What if I decide to spend on pots and keep them in there to stun their growth? Sorry for all the questions.
