You know. I started my revenge tour with singing this year and your vid “all you need to know about singing” really allowed me to figure out my placements. It never made sense before that. Good stuff. Thanks ❤
Girl!! I love you. I'm working on this song and it's an elvis song and I think I'm a mezzo soprano and I just gotta do something different with the ending. I know what I want to do but it's just not happening and I really don't know what Um doing wrong. I just know I'm straining and I don't know how to get the beautiful mixed belt I think I'm trying to belt in a key that is too high but don't know what to do with it I noticed another female cover it in my style but she just left it out wondering how I can change it to fit my voice

Why does the "Nay" exercise make my voice even weaker if done before A4 as a male baritone? As if it only strengthens my head voice and if used below A4 and between my bridge E4-A4 I feel like that bratty sound forces me to transition earlier? Any tips? Thanks.
If the Nay exercise only strengthens your lower range, I'd guess that you're possibly doing the exercise incorrectly, and using it in a chest voice placement rather than mixed voice. There's two kinds of bratty sounds - one sounds like a Valley Girl accent and one sounds like a baby cry or a teenager's complaining noise. The Valley Girl accent is a chest voice placement, which keeps your voice forward, and the baby cry sound (Nay) keeps your voice backward. A lot of people get stuck with mixed voice because they do the Nay sound in chest voice (often where it's pulled chest voice, meaning it feels more in your throat and like it takes a lot of effort to get more power or volume). It's a bit hard to offer advice without being able to work with you and try a few different things to see where the problem lies - if you were interested, I offer lessons here: katecosettevocals.com where you could do even just a one-time lesson where we could figure out what's going on and get you on the right track! But if not, I'd really focus on the whole idea that mixed voice (and all singing) should be 100% relaxed. It will have its own volume without any pushing, just from being in the right placement. Experiment with focusing your attention on where you feel your voice - if it feels very forward where talking is, then you're probably in chest voice placement. If it feels up and back, you're in either head or mix placement. And ultimately, mixed voice is the same sound as a baby cry or a complaining teenager who doesn't want to do chores, haha. Playing with those sounds will help give you the idea of where to feel it! I hope that helps! ☺
ahh I wish I could, but vibrato was one of the only things in singing that I didn't learn - it came to me naturally, so I'm really not sure how I learned it.. therefore I'm really not the best teacher on it. sorry about that!! if I do figure out how to learn/teach vibrato I will absolutely make a video on it! I hope you find the video that helps you for it!! 💕
@@katecosettevocals do you know how long into your practice until you noticed it? And was it full, resonant vibrato or light flutters at first? I am trying to develop and discover mine without obsessing over it 😅
@@caityvalentine ahhh, I'm trying to think back... I think it was more light flutters at first, and not easy to hold onto. (I just had to check an old recording lol so yeah I think that's what i started out with, here's an example right at the beginning of this video th-cam.com/video/eRCDDz9r2cA/w-d-xo.html very quick and fluttery for sure). I think I always had a little bit of vibrato as far back as I can remember, but I did work on controlling it when I got older to be able to do it a bit faster/slower, but I honestly don't know how I managed to do that either, I'm sorry I wish I could be more help! One thing I will say is that learning singing vowels will help no matter what - it'll always make peoples' vibrato spin faster and therefore give it better tone and keep it from falling apart on them, so I'd definitely suggest learning singing vowels, it'll definitely help in the long run! The best idea I'd have for vibrato (and this again is coming from someone who doesn't remember how she learned haha) is maybe trying to do that motion that often parents do with little kids, when they sit the kids on their knee and bounce them up and down really fast, and then the kids say like "ahhh" or something and you hear that the quick bouncing moves their voice up and down just from that movement. Vibrato itself is just going between two different notes really quickly back and forth, which is the same idea as that. Perhaps try that, and then see if you can get the feeling of what's happening with your voice, and then try it without the bouncing motion, just seeing if you can hold onto that quick back-and-forth between notes, even if you have to do it manually first? That's my best idea on what to try, I hope it helps or you figure it out on your own really soon!
