What is it like to get Your Car Fixed in Brazil?

  • We had a little problem with our mini van recently (gear shift box was acting up) and had to take it into the mechanic to get it diagnosed and fixed. The last shop we used here in Praia Ingleses siphoned our gas, so this time we decided to go back to Rafa Pneus close to Centro in Florianopolis, a great shop that we have used once before (thanks to the recommendation of a friend). They were able to get everything back in working order for us. This was the third trip we have had to take to the mechanic since buying our car and this video shows what the process looked like and what the costs of labor and parts are.
Have you guys had experience going to the mechanic here in Brazil?

My ex told me one time her scooter wasn't working when we lived apart. I was trying to help her diagnose the problem over whatsapp. Then I asked when was the last time she got an oil change and if she tried to put oil in it. She said O que? She never put oil in it and NEVER got an oil change lol. She said she didn't know she had to do that. 🤦‍♂Needless to say, I made her go to scheduled maintenance after that....and I took care of our cars once we were living together.

for such repair its fair deal .
clutch kit wears on manual cars . its just part of maintains part
but if your car has same gearbox as European citroen you may expect bearing inside the gearbox will go bad. and headgasket failure common on European at least.

I thought the price was fair as well. This is the first manual transmission car I have owned and I am not very familiar with the repair costs on them but they fixed the problem and now our car is running smoothly. All is well

Unfortunately I had to get this puppy fixed more than once and ended up having to sell it and when I did it still had problems. So they did give me a good deal but some of the same problems persisted after.

I'm happy that you were able to get my car fixed and find a reliable auto shop. Stupid question but when you choose to pay in parcels for purchases/ car fixes, does it often involves paying interest?

Sometimes when you pay with more than 3 parcels they do but at this mechanic shop they didn't charge any interest for the 10x parcels

It's be a while since I was a mechanic in the Army....but did you get it checked out by a mechanic before you bought it? Not sure how long you had it....but it sounds like it has quite a few problems popping up that should't be there if it was a recent purchase.

We did not. And that was definitely a big mistake. I would never buy a car again without doing that.

@@americaninbrasil We all made mistakes before young buck. I did too. We can only learn from it. At 45, I made plenty. The important thing is you got it fixed and you have a lovely family. Can't ask for more. 👍

Got to get rido of the French car, they are unreliable and parts are expensive. They didn't change the gearbox, just clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
