    THIS WAS SO GREAT! I'm currently in a class called "The Golden Age of Children's Literature" and it's so cool to see how similar and dissimilar it was to the Golden Age of Young Adult literature! I'd love to see more of these videos, I loved it!

    Twilight and The Hunger Games! This was totally true. I remember after these two were published, all sorts of YA books seemed to pop out of nowhere. Long live YA! :D

    This video is awesome! It's probably my favorite video epic reads has published so far :). Please make more in this style. I really liked learning about the history of YA. Maybe you could do some themed on specific authors or genres?

    Thanks so much for this history lesson! I was thinking earlier that I seemed to have missed the big YA boom, and this video helped prove me right and wrong. While I enjoyed Goosebumps and Animorphs as a kid, my major teen years were in the late 90s early 00s, when the YA slump was happening. Yes, I read YA books here and there (PERKS!), but no major series besides Harry Potter. By the time I got into Twilight in 2008, I was already 21.

    I did my dissertation on YA (Self Identity and Young Adult Dystopian Fiction), and one of the hardest things to come to a concrete conclusion to is what YA is specifically... is it author determined (i.e. a writer sets out to write a YA book and that is why a book is YA), or is it purely a marketing decision (publisher thinks it would do well in the market and gives it the label), are there inherent markers, attributes or tropes which make it YA? (All YA books seem to have a YA protagonist... but are all books with YA protagonists therefore YA?). To be honest I don't think there is a one size fits all answer, which is both awesome and frustrating when you are writing about it! Harry Potter, for example, seems to become YA at the end of the 4th book with the line "Kill the Spare". Suddenly this meaningless death happens and everything afterwards continues down this honest and dark path, and it becomes harder and harder to justify the MG label.

      That's weird, cause it falls right into the 12-18 age group mentioned in the video. Not to mention that it also deals with death and politics, for example.

    • @zephyr8653
      @zephyr8653 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @BookishWardo
      @BookishWardo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sure, sure, I agree. But I think it had a significant impact by opening the doors to other series like Twilight, The Hunger Games and Divergent, so I did miss it when they talked about this 2nd Golden Age of YA.

      Teens are young adults. During High School we are teens. By the time we get out of high school we are adults. We are a small version of adults. Like pre-adults. (sorry not very good at explaining.)
