+Memory Lane I would say no. First of all, I think it is very hard to find a synonym that expresses the word better than the equivalent of the exact word used. If you do this I believe something of the meaning will be lost. Second, by choosing a synonym you will undoubtedly change the register of the speaker. As a side note, I think that often educated interpreters change the register by raising it with their word choice. Maybe that should be the next video!

Among the vast amount of vocabulary one must learn as an interpreter, I just give myself the right to decline such interpreting services when cursing is a must. I prefer to fill up my brain with other words.

We're here for THEM not just for when/if we feel like conveying what is said. It's not like they can tell you beforehand that they're going to curse...

If an interpreter wants to avoid cursing can't they just use a synonym that's just as strong but doesn't violate the interpreter's personal ethics?
