Only downside for me apart from the screen brightness (i never use my laptop away from my room anyway) is the micro sd vs regular sd. Is that not annoying for photographer/filmmaker?
Thanks! I dabble in music production and use Ableton and Reaper with a Focusrite Scarlett and it's been great for my needs. Only issue is that the fans on the laptop are not super quiet but for music production it rarely needs to ramp up and I'd usually have my mic placed quite far away so other then that, yeah it should be fantastic for musicians.

Have a look at the ASUS TUF, Acer Predator, MSI Stealth and Lenovo Legion series - all within budget if you're after something more gamery and the xps 13/m2 mac air is also a good shout if you want something more sleek and compact. Laptops go on sale all the time as well so it's worth checking out models even outside our price bracket :)

Yes I have pretty much used it every day since this review was published (lots of da vinci resolve video editing and baldurs gate 3!) and it's still going great, but I've since upgraded to 32gb of ram. Hi. Do you think G15 or G14 versions are better for programming? I am mostly using vscode + I need to handle some emulators. I am scared that G14 is gonna be small and I have no idea if small screen is better or not
I tried a g14 and I just preferred the bigger screen and keyboard etc on the g15. It's down to personal preference really but both models can both specced with beefy cpus, gpus and ram combos so you can get enough power from either.

Oh that's awesome! Which Alienware did he get? And don't worry about the xps, this was a really old model that had a flawed chassis design with its cooling which I know they've fixed in more modern versions. The newer ones are supposed to be awesome too!

Bought the missus a m2 macbook air recently as she's used to mac os but I was hoping to do some light gaming on it. It handles games like LoL and FM perfect but anything AAA with good graphics, forget about it.
Thanks for the review 😄the G15 is such a well thought out laptop and so well made compared to other on the market but I do wish the screen was a little brighter and also the awful sticker placement lol looks like the AMD sticker guy had one too many drinks the night before 🤣
Great review Aaron, I am surprised you don't review more laptops, this was a better review than a lot of so called "tech reviewers" I see on here. My main gripe with gaming laptops is that they have good specs but often terrible screens for content creation, and then the problem with so called content creation laptops is that they have great screens but then terrible specs (mac airs and pros, and dell xps 13, 15 definitely spring to mind). The g15 seems like a good compromise but I wonder if the m16 might have a been a better choice with its bigger ad brighter screen and faster intel chips. Anyway great watch!

This is my actual dream laptop. I'm gaming on a desktop atm but it's a ryzen 3600 with a 1070 so I'm stuck on medium settings at 1080 for most games.

Good choice. My husband has a new Alienware with a 3080 but his model is quite bulky. This g15 looks a lot sleeker and more mature in design.

Yep absolutely. We've since upgraded to 32gigs and it's made a big difference in Resolve and Photoshop!

I heard this model gets very hot after long use. How is the heat performance long term?
After a long render or an hour gaming, it does feel quite warm but not alarmingly hot.
Damn those specs are beastly. Is 16gb enough for Premiere/After Effects though?
Tbh ram usage is always hovering at 80-90% when using memory intentsive apps like that, so I have since upgraded this to 32gb :)

Yeah unfortunately the Air, while it is a great device for every day use, is not really designed for gaming at all.

How is the experiece for motion graphics videos? Is it good for use with After Effects or DVR Fusion?
For very light projects it's pretty good. I'm still a noob with Fusion but use AE quite a bit but I wouldn't use a laptop for bigger projects.
