Good review. I am just over halfway through Mrs England and wanted to hear what other people had said about it. I am kind of enjoying reading it but it's not quite living up to the blurb on the back cover. Anyway I came across your review of these other two novels and you have piqued my interest particularly in The Founding. Just enough detail without spoilers. Thank you 👍
I really enjoy the book recommendations I see here. Legit enjoy all the content! Excited for more bookish manga content! PS The Familiars looks so interesting!!! Will check it out!
I've read both of these and feel pretty much the same as you do about them. I do think the first book suffers from some pacing issues - classic debut issues! - but I found both books so delightful to read. I fully intend on reading everything she publishes.
Same, The Familiars has a painfully slow start but every little issue I had was so well ironed out in The Foundling! Can't wait to see what she puts out next.
I have some of the books you recommended. I also write some historical fiction. I have interesting settings including the Caribbean in the 15th and 19th century as well as medieval middle east during a slave rebellion in Iraq. If you have time you can take a look. The books are titled: "The Kiskeyano" "Might of the Phoenix" and "The Crimson Sands of Eden."
I know it’s not really your genre, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed! It deals with a lot of very sensitive and dark topics and you have such a mature and empathic way of looking at things!! Love your videos 😊
The foundling was just mediocre for me. The characters felt like modern people set in a historical setting. It did not feel like these were people with the mindset of that time. The weird modern happy ending, which I just did not buy. A modern divorce agreement.
@@WillowTalksBooksI am having a field day going through your videos, having Covid and lying in bed. Sorry for my negativity above, I read the novel a few months ago.
I loved both of these books too. The Familiars is one of my favourite books ever! Also Laura Purcell’s books are amazing 😊
Another fan of British historical fiction! I really can't get enough right now. So excited for Halls' new novel!
I totally agree with the ending partir the foundling. Too happy too soon 🤭 I was like “that’s it?”

Lovely video. Read The Familiars last year and enjoyed it. Diane Setterfield is another author I would love to recommend.
Ooh I'll add her to my list!

Thanks very much, I'll look into it!
I just saw Stacey Halls’ 3rd book is coming out in June - will you be picking it up?
Absolutely! It looks promising! I feel like she's falling into a formula like Jessie Burton did but I'll still be getting it.
I loved both of these too, and my only criticism of them is, like you, the endings are far too "perfect".

Woah, I do not remember this video
