    I must admit after watching several of these videos, I am blown away by the intelligence and beauty of these people. Everyone needs to see these videos. It’s a real wake up call about stereotyping others. You don’t always know what someone is about and my God, it could happen to any of us. I never thought of that before. 💫

      By the intelligence of these people. That statement in and of itself is ignorant and separatist. Homeless are just people like you or me. Having a home or not shouldn't dictate a person's character (statistics aside it isnt always the case) but our society is more superficial than ever. The pressure to not be...well...homeless is strong and as such society pushes them away with even more disgust. Essentially the governments to blame for culling this problem by promoting the vanilla tax payer family life to Americans for so long (like before I was born, 1997) as well as the fact that the government continues to keep them there for a reason. For some to have a lot more some need to have a lot less. And for billionaires to exist (*failures* of capitalism) theres gonna be lots of homeless. It's how standard economics works.

      You are so right...there but for the grace of God go anyone of us. My prayers are with these folks. We can throw money at the problem but this is such a colossal problem that donating $, though somewhat helpful is not the ultimate solution. Homelessness in America should be at the top of the stack when choosing our elected officials.

    I'm a landlord and I recently called the housing authority for section 8 as a tenant was looking into it for emergency section 8 and was told the waiting list for normal section 8 housing is 8-12 years...YEARS...what on earth creates that?, there are houses dormant across the nation and people have to wait about a decade to get one?

    • @SolarLandlord
      @SolarLandlord 10 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      What "creates" that ? The short answer is MIS-EDUCATION !. Our educational system in the USA "cripples" a person when it comes to BASIC life skills. I put the educational system in the USA @ about 250 years behind. 250 years ago people knew how to BUILD THEIR OWN HOMES debt free. Knowing how to build your OWN HOUSE is a BASIC LIFE SKILL. However the "academic" method of education is based on being "passive". U do not learn how to put a roof over your head by reading about it or getting some college degree. U LEARN by doing. SIMPLE AS THAT. Giving people government aid cripples them. Mis-educating people cripples society. As the saying goes GIVE a man a fish and U feed them for a day, TEACH a man to fish and U feed them for a lifetime. The common denominator of the "working homeless" is that they have NEVER BEEN TAUGHT how to build their own house.

      Yup. It's sad and crazy. Unfortunately, there have been cases of Section 8 housing abuse, but most people who need these services use them accordingly and fairly. So, the gov't, a few years back, decided to just halt the program.

      Looks are decieving, I strongly believe bad people cant have that great of a life... Money and material things is not really what a good life is about. But if you dont have it people will look at you like you are useless and not worth shit. So much that you may actually start to believe it.

    I'm from NYC. 27 years, and I believe her. I've known many homeless people; friends, family (my mom was homeless, IN the shelter with my sisters before she had me). New York City is possibly the worst place to be homeless. this city makes you depressed, feel run down, tired, nervous/anxious and just angry. And that's coming from someone who had/has a job, and was a college student. I hope she makes it out okay.

      I've heard that manhattan has really gone to shit since the crash. Many of the rich are now poor and more and more being priced out with many shops even closed down on 5th avenue. Is it true?

    • @doobiesoda3873
      @doobiesoda3873 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Very true to some extent. At the height of the crash, I was 18. I just finished high school in Manhattan and was hoping to find a job, go to college and live out the "American Dream."
      Not so much.
      Myself, and many others, ended up jobless, bored and depressed. Us Millennials were financially messy when the crash happened because no companies; retail, food industry, etc. were hiring. We had to find other ways to make money. Some of my girlfriends (myself included), had to go into the "red" industry because we were poor and hungry. I remember lots of protests happening, and when the Occupy Wall Street protests were going on, I was right there, with my boyfriend at the time who was in the military. Everyone was upset, and hurt. Wealthy people were freaking out because they were losing money, and their condos, homes. Poor and middle class people were tired and upset. It was a really dark time for our generation and I feel as though now we are all suffering to some extent.
      Edit: Also, yes, lots of businesses were closing down. I remember how Manhattan real estate suffered so badly, as well as certain parts of Brooklyn. No one could afford $3000 monthly rents, except the bankers, who were suffering but being greedy and doing illegal things. Manhattan became really depressed.

      I can only imagine how bad conditions are in such a highly populated city. Here in Ireland things got very bad also after we had to pay off the EU's debt. 100s of thousands of people had to leave the country to find work in other countries and many that remained were committing suicide. I struggled myself to keep a roof over my head and my ass in college. I never thought I would see a time when there was a shortage of housing, nevermind the expense of it.
      I hope things have picked up for you and you managed to get on your feet. I almost ended up on the street a few times myself trying to deal with depression. I've learned two things in these few short years. To be grateful for what I have and to be vigilant on myself. I can never let my guard down and always watch out for my triggers or bad things will happen to me.
      Look after yourself

    I've had conversations on the internet with people who have nothing but hate for the homeless. This idea is growing believe it or not. This is not how America was in the 30's, I think, when the travelling homeless were always fed by strangers at their back doors or given odd jobs to do just out of compassion. My grandmother, for example, often did this in the small east Texas town of Mineola during the Depression.

    There should be an address fostering, where people will volunteer to accept mail at their address and then email or send on to a postal address for the homeless...this way when they apply for jobs they can give a genuine address and not have to give a homeless shelter which can stop any chance of them getting through the door.
    Even if necessary have a team of people collecting from those addresses mail only (no packages) so they can inform the person of have a place they can pick up their mail that isn't a po box and isn't a shelter and has a place to call 'an address'

Life is so fragile, and to see this happening to people that are just like me, ordinary people, but just had a turn of bad luck. It really crushes you. How can that have "everything", strive for another house or car, when there are people that don´t even have anything? I´ve always walked by the beggers, thinking they have them selves to blame. After watching these videos, I feel like this no more. Thanks for publishing these videos, they´ve been a real eyeopener.

    I lived in a shelter in Harlem, it was ruff for most, but I was one lucky ones. But I meet plenty of people like this lady in the shelter. I was in the shelter for 6 month's. I learn to appreciate life while living in the shelter

    They only help those who are severely mentally ill get housing within six months. Everyone else has to fend for themselves. They need to keep the severely mentally ill in their own damn shelters, and they need to have homeless shelters for regular, normal people, and do an intake for mental illness before you can be admitted or sent to another shelter. They also need to treat their residents better. Just because people fall on hard times and become homeless, it doesn't mean that they deserve to be treated like garbage.

      Fem Jay From what I knew they already started that process back in late 2015 or so. Something about any shelter within short distance to hospitals were turning into things called MICA shelters where they specifically housed mental health people. I know because they were turning all the veterans shelters into them. So these shelters would be a mix of mental health people and vets.

      And that's the truth ....they really need to have a shelter for the mentally ill.instead of just dumping them in the first shelter they can find they can and have been a danger to other.it's enough stress trying to deal with 50 strangers and crying babies ..kids running around making noise.cleaning after other grown ass women dirt...be up certain time.in certain time.then have to sleep with one eye open cause the woman on top bunk missed.or acting like she ran out of her meds.reason many choose the streets over a shelter.

    Absolutely charming, beautiful, and smart! I see that Charmain is still out there.. that is a shame. This is such a huge problem, and as we can see, the houseless are not getting much support. Maybe a big part of the solution is for all of us to help, and not count on the government.

    • @madwithhats
      @madwithhats 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      outbackeddie That's hilarious. I went to visit my niece and got a pass from the veteran's shelter to do it so I wouldn't lose my bed. Her daughter was questioning me about where I lived. I said enough for her eyes to get watery and ask, "So you're like a hobo tio???". I smiled while she sadly looked at her mom and gave her a big smile. Talked it down and got the worry out of her. But to know she probably romanticized being a hobo herself and to see that someone she loved didnt have anywhere to live really got to her. You just reminded me of the memory. Sorry about the novel. I dont talk to many people. So communication is hefty when I have something to say. Peace.

      You weren't the only one I wanted to live that life also but I'm older and living for Jesus 🕊 Christ now and I realize that its demons that put that illusion in our minds and if you look in every Major City in America you see more young people who are Homeless than any other age group. New York City encourages the youth to be Disrespectful to the their Parents and Grandparents and to Call the Cops on your Parents if you don't like being told to live a good clean life. They then put you in a Group Home or a Program that teaches you to fend for yourself!. When disaster Strikes America again (and its coming) New York City will be hit first and the hardest!. I know that God will take care of his children and all these "Rich and Wealthy" people will only inherit this world not the Kingdom of Heaven!.

    In Tokyo Japan a hotel room can be very expensive. In order to combat the extreme expense of a hotel room, a company has come up with rooms that are8 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot. Right 32 cubic feet, the hotel is called “the coffin” there is a communal bathroom. Very easy to clean and maintain and very inexpensive. I would think that a major city could run something like this and make it cost effective.

    She speaks the absolute truth: 5:45 . When I was homeless, I got rejected from housing assistance because I had no kids, no mental disorder (besides the "standard" depression), and was not fleeing a domestic violence situation. Despite it being freezing cold/ wintertime and creepy men on the street trying to solicit me for sex, I couldn't get any help since I didn't meet their target demographics. Being poor, there is no way I'm going to get pregnant. That would just be stupid. And I would never lie about being a victim of domestic violence because I would never want to take the emergency housing opportunity away from a woman who was actually such a victim. So I worked my butt off and hustled; after 9 months I was able to get an apartment close to my job. I've been in that apartment 1.5 yrs now; never been late on rent, despite temp jobs ending and multiple job transitions. If I have to choose between housing, food, and medical care, I will always choose housing from now on. It's just not safe for women on the streets. God bless this woman, and may she stay safe 💜
