    This is very informative, and will be a good reference when I finally get my tail on top of some mountains! The common Sota frequencies like is fantastic. Thank you for sharing!

    As always, great video Charlie. It's good that you answering questions for people. Makes life easier for new activators / chasers.

    The off-road advice was a nice addition. On 20m cw I suspect in the next few years 14.112 or around there becomes quite common for SOTA as the digital and code groups continue migrating into “our” space.

      Thanks man! I think you are right about 14.112. In fact, I'm even worried about that being crowded. That part of the band is no secret. Just yesterday with the contest going on, that part of the band was packed, and it was the same all the way down to just above the Extra portion. Ugh!!!

      It is a larger topic but digital incursions have become more of an issue lately below 14.070. I would kind of like to see a guideline that digital should be in a certain spectrum above 14.100 unless it is too crowded in that range. I’ve had digital stations start transmitting on my signal. I am guessing they more often do not listen since they often don’t need to with the computer doing the copy.

    Thanks Charlie great video and you covered all the traps for young players you are a real ambassador for the hobby. I have a proper tyre pump on order it's been on my mind for a while. I do 2 real 4x4 rocky climbs and I take my spare tyre out from under the tray tub and keep it in the back of the tray. If the tyre went flat I would not be able to wind the spare down from under the lower vehicle. Cheers Mate vk5cz ..

      Sounds like that would be a real adventure if you had a flat along the way. 4x4 is fun! I need one of those pumps too. It's been on my mind like you. Thanks Ian

    Great tips for any beginner that want to start doing SOTA.
    Your antenna is it tuned to the CW frequencies of each band or for SSB?
    Thanks

      Thank you Vitor. I have tuned all of my HF antennas (except one) as close to the QRP calling frequency as possible. 7.033, 14.063, etc. Thank you for the note.

    I thought no contest on 60, 30, 17 and 12-meter bands off limits from competitive events. Secondly motor vehicle use is prohibited to get to the summit...

    • @RedSummitRF
      @RedSummitRF  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there - thanks for catching the video. WARC bands are OK to use for programs like POTA and SOTA. They are not competitive (even though some make it so in some ways). They aren't considered contesting events.
      Regarding using a vehicle, it's always been permitted to drive to the top of a summit. There was one association that did have a provision requiring you to hike out of the AZ with your gear and then back in, after you parked your vehicle, but that has long since been removed. Vehicle rules only talk about not using the vehicle in any way for the activation once on summit. Drive up, park, move all your gear away from the vehicle (not connected in any way) and you are go to go.
      Thanks again for visiting the channel.
