    You should keep a pair of water shoes in your backpack or have a reminder on your phone that tells you to grab your shoes 😜.

    This was so much fun to watch. My husband and I worked Royal Caribbean 17 years ago when Labadee was just a beach, a few beach bars and a BBQ cabana. Back then there was no dock so you tendered in straight onto the beach. Our insider tip in those days was "stay on the ship!" Oh how times have changed 👵🏻👴🏻

    Morgan, I'm pretty sure I was one of the early Labadee "explorers" when I visited on the RCCL Song of America with my parents way back in the late 80's. They had this steel drum band singing a song as we walked off the gangway which is forever embedded in my memory: "Come and see Labadee, Fun and Sea, Labadee, Everyone's so happy in Haiti, Labadee!"
    It's really come a long way, but it's definitely still not an island.

    Nice video. You are right Labadee is not an island. Royal Caribbean calls it an island for marketing purposes. Such a beautiful place.

    • @shizentimes
      @shizentimes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      beautiful it was.. With RC it's now an artificial beach with jetties and seawalls, all the currents have changed, the sand has been replaced and brought from another place, it's an ecological disaster.

    Labadee is a great stop. The second beach, Nelly Cove, if a wonderful spot to spend the day. It took us a couple of stops to find it too. To walk to the beack you get to walk by the local artisits shops and there is a market kind of area as well to see, if you want to walk around. There is a shuttle bus for those who need it, but if you can walk, please leave the shuttle for th others. Nelly Cove is a great place to take your "holiday cruise" photos with the ship in the back ground, but do it first, before you get all wet and sandy. I did the zip, be ready to have whip lash for a couple of days later if it's a windy day. But it was fun, I'd do it again. This is a fun day in the sun, no worries, relax and play in the water.

    Goodnight Morgan !! This was a fun video to watch, as all your videos are -- with the possible exception of DisneyWorld/Land -- if only because I never went as a child, so I don't have any nostalgic memories of the place. ;) The second of my own tangents -- when I was a young teenager, I absolutely ADORED going on Elitch's original Mr. Twister. It was the longest wooden roller coaster in the square footage on which it was built and remained around #8 of the 10 best roller coasters in the States. I bet there's still video of that ! Glad you remained unijured ! Keep that up. :)

Do you know if the beach chairs are complimentary and how much is the beach bed? This is what I read in trip advisor that the shop ppl are worse than Mexico. I don't mind if it is a one time tip to get on beach and another tip to get off beach, but want peace while on beach. I will check back on this video to see if you were able to answer, our RC jewel of the sea 5 nts out of Miami to Lebadee leaves Jan27.2019. We got a good deal on a balcony.

    What did you think of the water? I was there in 2012 when The Freedom of the Seas was the largest ship in the fleet. When I was there we went sea kayaking and the water felt like a mix of oil and kosher salt.

    I'm put off going to labedee because my friend who has family in Haiti told me it's not real Haiti it's just tourist cruisers that really bothers me, I want to see the less touristy part are there any other places that are like that?

      Yes, Labadee has absolutely nothing to do with the "real" Haiti. When stopping there, as far as I know, there is no way to see the real Haiti.

      There are 2 sides to that though. A co-worker is from there and has told me that Labadee used to be a popular local beach but the area around it is horrendously poor. RCCL leasing it and developing it does bring a lot of money into the national and local economy in the form of land rental fees, passenger fees and local jobs inside the compound. Also RCCL sponsors schools in the nearby villages and they run a tourism academy from which they recruit (you've probably noticed there are a lot of Haitian workers on RCCL ships).
      As for seeing the "real" Haiti, it's probably not a good idea at this point. The poverty is real and people do desperate things. The Police Nationale officers won't allow tourist outside the compound for safety reasons unless you are on a ships guided tour (which many people don't know includes undercover armed officers, no I'm not kidding).

      @pat D Thanks for lending some insight. Glad to know that RCCL's presence is somewhat helpful.

    Haitians are forbidden to enter that area is close to them.

      That is nonsense. The area is reserved for ship passengers only when the ships dock. It is open to all for a fee on non docking days. It is a rented area so they have a right to restrict admission. Do you think it is different on other Caribbean tourist resorts.
