I think getting old is a time where we can wear what we want and enjoy life. Get in the garden , paddle in the sea play with the grandkids . Start a new hobby , meet up with friends and forget all this shallow consumerism. Wear what you like
76 yr old here. No one I know follows fashion. We just wear what we are comfortable in and we all look pretty decent.
Some of my clothes are 20 yrs old but are still respectable. My daughters would be the first to tell me I looked dowdy, believe me.
Exactly. Take a look at yesterday's video. I'm pretty much saying that.
I respect that...nonetheless, you're here, viewing a "how to not look OLD/out of style" video. SO there IS a desire in you to stay somewhat current. When that desire stops, so does everything else IMO.
How strange we are about age. A 100 year old table has more value then a 100 year old human being. 1 us called old and useless, the other is called ,an antique and valuable.
My husband does that all the time as well… “You don’t need to dress up”-I have learned to just smile and ignore his unsolicited fashion advice.😂
I wore a beautiful silky floral sleeveless dress (with waist with white straw belt) this morning to church. My favorite spring/summer dress. ALWAYS get at least three compliments. I LOVE IT! They are large soft pink, coral roses on turquoise background. Wear with pretty lacey shawl cover. Just to say….this video is informative, but there is a limit….we CAN WEAR what we love and looks good on us, whether “on trend” or not.
Totally agree
Photos of older women wearing these things would be helpful. These women look amazing because they are 25 years old, 90 lbs. with slim shoulders and no tummy fat. 🙄 A big white button down on most older women looks like a tent. A big no no. Beige…also a no no unless you want to look REALLY old.
Yes. I keep attempting the white oversized boyfriend business shirt, but I feel like I look like a fridge..
Certain body types have to watch with the big white button down shirt. Women with rectangle or apple body shapes and short necks can look very boxy and “butch” in shirts like that. Also, short women can look like the little girl dressing in her parent’s clothing because the oversized shirt would overwhelm her.
🙌 agreed with so much of what you say here!
@@cathytucker2009Oh too funny! Just wear a sleeveless top underneath, and keep it unbuttoned and the sleeves rolled up, and you will look amazing!😃
Lol! I loved your story, because that's happened to me as well. If I take a chance and go out looking "less than" I will invariably see someone I know. If I look fabulous, nobody. 😂
I love cowl necks because I think the draping next to the face looks pretty. I think they are fine to wear. You can mix them with a "trendy" piece, like a wide legged pants/ jeans or jeans skirt. As a 40+ woman I stick with clothes I love, and which flatter me. I am not a slave to trends that others dictate.
Yes trends was my last point. I hope you went on to see that video. I have quite a rant about micro trends 😀
I thought cold shoulder was stupid- even when it was “ in style).
Me too!!!!!
I have always despised that look and almost every one I know does.
On hot summer days tuniques are way more comfortable than shirts with a collar. There are different styles and patterns and so one can find her favorite piece. As an 73 old woman of a normal body size I‘ve been wearing tuniques for at least 25 years on hot summer days. Combined with light coloured linen pants or trousers.
I agree with you 100%. Without any offense, I wouldn’t wear that vest you are wearing in the video. For me it’s a big NO. Love your hair.
Thank you. Its better on me in real life but needs some fake tan on my arms . I'm interested in finding ways to wear it that work.
I agree, i don’t like older people wearing anything sleeveless.
I had a friend- she was about 20 years older than me- and whenever you dropped in unannounced ( my ex was a fan of that) she always looked wonderful.she had spent her entire career as a corporate secretary and was still dressing wonderfully. I could never do that because I do too many things that get me dirty on a daily basis. She had someone to clean her house, do her gardening, etc. I admired her style greatly, but if you “ drop in” on me- you get what you get!
Yes you can see from my experience I’m more like you. But I do my own cleaning 😃
I was a legal assistant for 23 years. I had a very nice work wardrobe. Now that I’m retired my wardrobe is jeans and tee shirts, except for my peasant skirt and a long sleeve fitted tee and low heels for church. That’s it. I’m 71 and have no intention of marrying again because guys my age just want someone to take care of them. I’ve cared for my kids, my dogs, my cats, my horses, my badly injured ex husband who later left me and I just want to take care of myself now. I have house plants now and I don’t even like caring for them. lol. IM FREE and I rarely even wear makeup because I have good skin. I wear my pierced earrings and my Russian orthodox cross and st. Vladomyr medal. I hate wearing any other jewelry.
I’m 63 now and since my size never change from 30 years ago I can still wear my favorite clothes from back in the days. Still receive compliments whenever I wear them from people who don’t even know me. I realized as long as the clothes fits you well no matter how dated it is, you will look good on it .
Floral pants, worn correctly in the right length with a lovely top and stylish sandals, are very much in style. Nothing pajama-like about them…check high-end designers!! Just throwing something on with an old tee, will always make you look old and frumpy, even if it is supposedly stylish…the entire package is what matters!
Thanks for sharing!!
Hmm. Yes need to be wide leg, not elastic cuffed..
i am 60, petite with J-cup boobs. If I get a stripey button down shirt to fit my chest, I look like a walking marquee.
Yes indeed i agree not flattering at all unless your'e a stick thin model 😅 👍
I'm so sorry, you made me laugh, but I totally understand!!!
FYIa: Difference between button down and button up (aka button front) is button down refers to a type of collar. The collar is held down by buttons. If it has buttons down the front, but the collar isn’t buttoned down, call it button up.
Thank you. We don’t use either expression in the uk. It’s just a shirt. Hence my confusion.
I laughed all the way through this video. I'm in this general age group (nearly 70) and agree with almost all the observations. In re: capris. I've begun wearing them, but there's a trick to doing it. The hem should not hit at the fullest part of the calf (a good rule for skirts, too!) If they do, cuff them a bit to bring the length slightly below your knee, or find a pair that that's a bit longer that hits between the ankle and the calf. My favorite for summer is white or light khaki, worn with a button-down short-sleeve blouse. Beige ballet flats or dressier sandals work best with them. Avoid those old-lady orthopedic sandals, though, especially black.
Thanks for the video!Love these types of videos. I am guilty of having abstract patterned palazzo pants in my wardrobe and tunics. I love Tory Burch tunics and tend to think of them as beautiful classics but you are probably right they are not on trend. The thing with the white oversized shirt that you showed at 3:02 is it looks very chic in the photo. The model is tall, slim and in elegant interior and the shirt is perfectly pressed. What would it look like on someone much shorter than has driven a car, sat down, eaten a meal, basically worn it for 5 hours plus? I bet the person would look like they slept under a bridge it would be such a rumpled mess!
I totally agree with you!!
Personally as a size 8/10 I like nothing better than a well cut pair of bright patterned trousers and a crisp white, black or navy shirt OR a well cut bright floral shirt with a white, navy or cream trouser . I would never wear a t-shirt type top and what I believe at 65 is that I don't want to wear what is 'in fashion', whatever that may be I want to look simple, classic, and elegant but above all to feel comfortable and not worrying whether others are thinking she is out of fashion.
I live in Sicily and learn a lot from seeing the tourists. Yes - capri pants with tunic tops. Please don't! Wear long trousers or shorts (sized up if white). Wear a shirt - you can layer it over a tank top tucked in. Roll up the sleeves. Plain colours rather than prints - unless stripes or polka dots
"... Just a sheet of paper we become, don't we...?" cracked me up!
Still think you should do a vid that includes styling thrifted / vintage jewellery with current outfits.
Right? Crepe paper 🤣
@@debbiewalker9798 good one!😂
That was / so so funny
The trouble with waistcoats usually the armholes are too low and neckline too low.😊
Yes many are. Mine will be better over a T-shirt. I need to find ways to style it.
I enjoyed your presentation SO much. Thanks for the chuckles!
“just don’t dress like a five year old!” Going over and over in my head!😂 love it!
Thank you it's always nice to get a refresher course 😀 😊.
I was sleeping on the button-down shirts because I did not know that you could get the fit and flare button-down shirt, which is better for my body type than a traditional boxy, button-down shirt. I’m loving my fit and flare, flowy, button-down shirts, and shirt dresses. You’re right they look so much better than a tunic. The only way you can look modern in a tunic is to belt it.
First time watcher. Great video! I keep hearing too that capris are coming back. As someone who just turned 59 a few days ago, I have worn them before but I will never wear them again. I think they make older women look frumpy. I do like an ankle or 7/8 pant though to show just a bit of ankle and showcase a cute shoe but that is no for me to anything that is higher up on the leg. I also say no to tunics and leggings. I never owned a cold shoulder top as I always thought they looked silly. I do have a cowl neck top that I like but I usually only wear it around home or walking in the neighborhood. I like the vest (or waistcoat as you call it) but I feel they are waaaay too popular. I'm like that. When something gets too popular and everyone is wearing it, I'm out. I won't wear it or if I do, I will wear it differently. As I got older, I started to like doing my own thing and having my own style whereas when I was younger, I wore what everyone else did. That being said, I do like to follow and adopt some of the trends. That way I don't look outdated but I'm not too trendy wearing the latest style of everything. For example, I'm wearing wider legged jeans and straight legged jeans now and I don't wear skinny jeans anymore. I really do love vests and have a couple from about 15 years ago hanging in my closet. I used to wear them with dress shorts and a blouse to the office back in the day. It was my look at that time and I loved it. I'll wait until the trend dies and then I'll pull mine out again. I like your hair - it is very cute. I just subscribed. 🙂
My matra-"Anything that can go wrong will"! Thanks for the discussion.
Really enjoyed this and agree with all your points 😊
Some great tips to think about here! Thanks from USA
You are so fun! I enjoyed this so much.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
I still wear tunics. I never wear shirts (short neck) and no buttons (arthritis). I dress for my shape and activity and weather. Sod anyone who thinks I look old - it's not a crime.
I love the bold necklaces , I’ve seen them before and they are gorgeous
Love your modern hair style.
You always make me smile as well as giving good tips. I wear glasses and looking back at the massive Deidre glasses omg😂 Thankyou for another great video x
Oh yes the Deirdre glasses 😅
Love the vest❤
That’s the reason I never go out of the house without looking good. You will always run into someone that you haven’t seen for years or your meeting someone new, don’t do it. My husband now knows after 30 years of living with me. I don’t go out of the house without looking my best, even if I’m going to the grocery store. My mother would put a scarf over her rollers to go to the grocery store and I used to say mom please don’t go out looking like that. It was the 50s so every mother did that.😂😂😂
I think the heat had gone to head 😀
No, neither my Mom or Gran *ever went out without their done and a little make up!!
Oh contraire- if was a no-no to go out in your rollers..which was tough, because hairdryers were primitive , ineffective and mostly non-existent
I thought you were going to stop after “That’s why I never go out of the house”… that’s me! 😂
@sherylscott8201 I went out today for a change. Had a wander around town, went in physical shops and had a coffee. I told my hubs when he got home as it was so exciting . Really it was relaxing being aimless for a bit.
Oh boy, I just purchased these beautiful Joie(quite expensive, higher end brand)linen wide leg, white pants with bold pink, blue, green large flowers scattered throughout. I wear them often and get compliments on them all the time, and asked where I purchased them, so it makes me wonder. Most of my trousers and summer pants are a neutral colour, but I fell in love with the Joie pants as soon as I saw them, and quickly purchased them😂. Enjoy your videos😊
They sound more classy than the cheap n cheerful ones I’m describing. Always overlay your environment s choices over any advice you hear so if your friends like them they are perfect for your world. 😀
I agree with everything you said. Some stores geared toward mature women sell just awful clothing. They are not doing women any favors. It’s as if they hate women. ie Chico’s and even Talbots sell some clothes you should say away from. Although Talbots does sell some nice pieces when they stick to the classics.
Floral pants (1 pair) was a fun addition to my wardrobe, I dont mind tossing out one pair of pants when the trend ends 😊 it was fun at the time 😂😊 and i think you did look gorgeous in your blue floral dress....its an era, we can tell eras in photos from what people are wearing.
😂 that's just the way it goes!! Husband are like that. I know my husband is! I've noticed a few cold-shoulder tops in the shops this spring. I've got one I can't part with but I don't wear it. I will though when they are back in fashion. I have seen one twin set this spring and I was so surprised because they went out of style years ago. I did not buy it just for public information. I never liked them when they were in style. No, hiking shorts were never in style. 😅
Ooh love me a good cardie !
Thank you so much for this video! You managed to propel me out of my rut and into 2024! There are a lot of things I like and feel comfortable in, but that doesn't mean I should wear them in public! 😵💫 Laughed when you said we all end up looking like a sheet of paper as we age. Great line!!
Love this video - and you are so right that jewellery transforms you!! Thanks for that (and OMG how things come back! Layering bracelets - statement chokers, hello 1990s … can big earrings come back too and I’m all set!!
They are back. Enjoy your big earrings 😀
I wear big earrings every day!
What about matching sets in prints? Flowy pants with shirts/tops in bright patterns? They’re everywhere.
Honestly, wear what you love!
Love your haircut!
Thank you
Really enjoyed this video . Your life and location sound so charming. I'm in hot and humid Houston Texas. Great fashion advice and a good story as well.
I’ve visited Houston. I stayed with friends in Katy.
I'm almost in Katy.. one street over. Next time, let me know you are coming so we can plan to have lunch. Love your videos.
I’m tall. Also, long-waisted. Too long-waisted. This means each and every top I try on looks too short on me. I’m sort of stuck with tunics to get enough length. Button down shirts are too hot in summer where I live. Also, many times, they have length but the bottom buttons end far too high in front. It’s an issue. Oh well, back to old lady tunics.
Thanks for the 1/3 2/3 reminder. I find myself sliding back to 50/50.
Great tips! I recently got out my more "boho" type jewelry -- turquoise, jade type necklaces, semi-precious stones and bracelets -- and I really enjoyed wearing them. A "lift" to the face and outfit is the perfect terminology. How do you feel about the cargo pants trend?
Love it. I have a video on cargo pants, I’m a great fan.
Oh, I agree!! And I have become a sheet of paper😂😂😂 I did quite like those beads you were wearing, however. I think I still have some just like them. 😅
I am 63 and love the advice. I still want to look modern and good, but not like I’m trying to look 20. Taking care with my appearance helps my mood too. My seven year old granddaughter told her first grade class that her nana’s style is wild. I was concerned, but my daughter said that is a high compliment from her. I bought a neutral vest and I’m going to try wearing it without a shirt under it.
Who cares what other golf like? You know what you look good in and dress for you. I’ve never followed fashion. I wear what makes ME feel good and practical. I always dress for an occasion but never feel I can’t nip to the shops without getting made up! I’ve never needed makeup. I’ve been blessed with beautiful English skin. I have rosy cheeks and good hair. Yes, I colour it now! Grey makes folk look OLD! My hair is still my young colour. That’s what makes me feel good. Stop worrying about what you look like.
“Grey makes folk look OLD.” “Stop worrying about what you look like.” Sorry, but I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at those two comments!😂😂😂. A little hypocritical don’t you think? My hair is jet black with large, natural silver white streaks running through it, and nobody has ever guessed my true age of 53, instead they think I am much younger, but I am blessed with wrinkle free, olive Mediterranean skin, and model for our town’s clothing shops, so I do look fashionable, and maybe that helps. Just be yourself, whatever that version may be, and let others do whatever it is that makes them feel beautiful and confident. I choose to age gracefully, but others may choose to get a little help along the way, and that is ok too!
Loved your video and thanks for sharing your funny story 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just wondering where you go that any of this is an issue or makes a difference.
Those shorts are the ones my husband wears on holiday- big baggy monstrosities. Drives me mad 😂
At 56 years old, I'll wear what I like. I like tunics, I like jewellery, I don't like white button up shirts.
I have a short, thick, no neck body and I have NEVER felt good in a button up shirt. And have tried but will never pick that out and will always take it off so it is just not for me. Also white makes me truly a sheet of paper--not a good color for me but every expert will say that you must have white button ups in your wardrobe.
Yes we have to personalise advice and take what works for us.
Pendants are back in? 10:17 I remember you telling me to set pendants aside for a while! How long can the pendant be to be in fashion? 🙂
Quite a few years I think. I don’t think it will be a micro trend.
@@Myover50fashionlife I mean "how long" in inches? 😄
I suggest wearing the button downs unbuttoned, open, over a tank and rolled up to 3/4 sleeves. It creates a slimming vertical effect and also gives freedom of movement.
I recently discovered your channel and love your sense of humour😊I’ve never liked capri’s, especially with a tunic🙈Last year I went on a hiking trip with colleagues and they were surprised to see that I do own hiking shoes, a fleece cardigan and a coat with lots of zippered pockets. I’ll just never, ever wear them to work😂
Thank you so much for telling me.
I’ve never liked tunics on me for some reason, even when they were current. Love the white shirt.
No big leg capris!
I've got those exact pants, with the elephants on & a matching white printed t-shirt, think they were from Tu Sainsbury's! Still wear on holiday or going down the beach, 🏖️😂
Yes it was Tu. great on a hot as they are thin . In the house 😀
I love the Bardot top. But if I wear it I just feel like I look like I’m trying too hard.
Someone needs to tell all the attractive and younger men this-
They didnt get the memo and smile and say hi and even directly ask for my time...
And I pretty much live in patterned tunic tops, leggings or skinny jeans, flats. 💁
I was laughing hysterically as you told the story about meeting several important people on your outing with your husband. I've been in similar situations through the years. Always embarrassing, for sure. Thanks for all the tips to help me not look old!
Good tips. Love the vest/waistcoat!
I had to laugh when you said we were like a sheet of paper as we aged and growing out our gray hair.
It is more challenging to put color into your life.
I loved the necklace with cord and beads. Where did you say we can buy them?
Thank you for the laughter and the tips.
When i put a long white shirt i look like a roctor
Agree with every single thing you said 😆😆😆 So true xxx
Thank you Susan
I find it hard to get summer trousers
Cold shoulder awful prefer off the shoulder or on the shoulder
Good morning! Haven't watched yet, but wanted to say hey. 😊
Morning Robin
I wear what I like.
I'm 62 and just subscribed! ❤ 🇦🇺
Thank you so much. Were the 62 club, born in 62 too 😀
I shall be going through my wardrobe and checking out that I don't have any of the said items 😂
9:34 Pretty sure you meant to say Anna Wintour, not WInton? I love her gemstone neck pieces....
Yes I did.
Youre a riot
You need to tell Armani about no bold necklaces. He loves them. I am a jewelry designer. I say go big or go home. A simple top and a statement necklace. Yes
Yes i showed the type of statement necklace that's making a comeback. I love them
I somehow missed the garden centre tops with furry tails! Maybe luckily in case I was tempted 🤣. I remember the dresses with matching necklaces. Per Una were . big on those and so was I at the time 🙄. I have never owned patterned trousers as far as I remember, but I do know you will always meet somebody you like to impress when you look your absolute worst!
cold shoulder lets you hide baggy arms
I made a video last week on how to hide arms and the tops to wear
Cold shoulder is tacky!!!
Here! here! It looks like you’re trying too hard to bring sexy back😂
@@edesouza2279agreed. Sexy is a vibe, not a bare shoulder
The floral trousers look like PJs
Exactly. That’s one of the problems. Shapeless frumpy pj like .
Only if they are cheaply made. Buy quality, and look into alterations if needed to look classy, and well fitted and put together.
The color of lipstick you are wearing may your teeth look off color not white! You’d look younger if you would wear brighter lip color with a sheen and get your teeth whitened!
You have become really great on TH-cam! Love the English accent and humor!
Thank you. My daughters in dentistry and I've gone through the whitening process including internal bleach. My enamel is the sort that won't whiten. But the camera doesn't help by turning me yellow. 😅.
I like cold shoulder
I’m ok with you saying one looks unstylish, but there is nothing wrong with looking old.
All this "politically correct" language is irritating!! We all know what it means to look "old" and nobody wants it. So why pretending and imposing all this "correct" language?!?!
I want to look my age, I earned this wrinkled face x
I love tunic tops…made by artisans, funky fabrics, colors, design….artistic and creative…sorry to disagree.
I agree! Those gypsy style tops are everywhere at the moment, i love them, so flattering
I don’t think tunic tops are attractive on anyone big or small. But if you like them and you think they look good on you go for it.
Yes, I’d agree actually I have some lovely tunics I’ve been complemented on although there plain
Tunics look frumpy I agree with her
Thanks for your input everyone! I’ll continue wearing my ‘frumpy’ tunics….I do like them on me…ARTFUL HOME has some beautiful ones…
Pay attention to the type of shirt or blouse you wear. I see so many influencers rolling or bunching up long sleeves, and tying or tucking the front of a long shirt. DON'T DO THAT! It will never sit right on you. Buy a properly shaped blouse with darts, an actual hem, and 3/4 length sleeves that you don't need to roll up. These are harder to find and usually more expensive, but it is so worth it.
3/4 length sleeves are outdated. The current style is to roll up the sleeve.
@dawnt5587 @dawnt5587 Yes, you are correct. As I said, so many influencers are doing that. And as I suggest, DON'T DO that. It is better to look great than to follow trends...in particular like rolling back long sleeves, using elastic bands on long sleeves, and tying or tucking longer shirt style tops. Go against the trends and hacks and do what actually looks good ... wear a properly made shirt or blouse with a finished sleeve and bottom hem at a flattering length ... SOOO much more flattering and not trendy. A well made blouse with a collar and shoulder seams that sit well will last for years and look great.
I just commented on another similar video the printed pants…beach style, wide or straight leg…are actually very much in style. They are all over high end dept stores…I just bought another pair from Bergdorf, in fact…love them and see them all the time on very well-dressed colleagues.
Totally agree with you 👍 and yes theyr'e near impossible to find unfortunately 🤔
I guess it’s all a question of personal preference/style and body shape etc. I much prefer rolling up my sleeves and don’t like 3/4 length sleeves. For most occasions I like the more casual look (because of my lifestyle)… spent so many years in tailored blouses etc. I do wear short sleeved shirts in the summer for those hot days. Your suggestions would certainly work best for those wanting a more tailored look.
Oversized white shirt look frumpy and baggy.
❤❤🎉🎉❤❤
What’s the Rand of the or necklace with cube beads? You are aging it quickly and hard to understand. It would be helpful to impose the written brand name into your videos if you are going to name them
Brand name, rather.

The cowl neck and cold shoulder are NOT flattering on any age woman. And I hate costume jewelry and big gaudy necklaces. I find them tacky. What jewelers I have is classic and refines.
Men just don’t get it.
Why do experts hate capris?!
It's the tightness and where the hem falls on widest part of the leg. Plus how they are often styled with tight tshirts or tunics.
@@Myover50fashionlife what about thinner women who are not big in the calf and those who style it well???
The good news on that front is that they were on the runways for 2024 but we haven't seen how they are going to emerge as a trend yet. My preference is dark ones styled with a relaxed fit shirt.
Your hair cut is not flattering on you ….trying to look young makes you look old
Just putting it out there like you do ! Honesty is the best policy !
With age comes wisdom. I wear what I like and think sod all about what other people think. I don't think your cream waistcoat looks good around your armholes but why should you worry about what I think.
Beige (the waistcoat) isn't your colour which is why you look so washed out in it. Go.get your colours done.
Yes im much better in colour. But i wore this to demonstrate the point as i said. Colours done last year hence why i normally wear color, unless im sharing an item for others to see. Its ivory not beige but the point is the same. I need color.
Wow. What an incredibly rude comment.
@@sassyt1545 wasn't intended to be rude. Not only do we need to find styles that suit our bodies but also colours. Do you know about colour analysis? It's very useful.
@@glacey4906 l think the abrupt, critical tone of your writing didn't help: "You look so washed out", "Go get your colours done".
It's like a Captain barking orders. "Yes Ma'am/Sir. Right away, Sir".
Anne Marie. You face and neck look lovely, no neck sagging. What is your secret?
Thank you. Ill give you a link to a video where i talk about what I'm using th-cam.com/video/t2aOogOYTog/w-d-xo.html
@sherylkramer6016 I don't want to be unkind towards Anne Marie's skin care regimen but I can't help adding that the way our necks and skin age is hugely due to genetics. By this I mean that a person with unlucky genetics might have taken immaculate care of their skin, avoided sun, never smoked or drank, and maintained a healthy weight and yet end up with wrinkles and/or a "turkey neck" anyway. We can & should do whatever we can to help ourselves, but not beat ourselves up if we don't age to perfection. This is coming from a woman with both good and bad genetics. I have minimal facial wrinkles (even crow's feet) at 62, but my neck looks 75! I _really_ miss my 40 year-old neck. 😞
That white vest with your skin does not look good. Sorry
I needed to add fake tan but it was to prove a point. About necklaces 😅
