this is where I first saw them. It's amazing to know that somethings stick with you for so long. Something in you just switched over and there you go. Bought the album, and another and wish to see them live one day....
Best version of this song by some stretch, they vary their live versions continuously but I think he hit every note on his guitar perfectly in this performance....The mini solo 2 thirds thru is nothing short of pitch perfect
To my mind all that cool desperation was coming out of Great Britain, Richard Butler, Roert Smith, Ian Curtis et al. REM made the cut though. And this band here is phenomenal as well.
+Michael Newton When I hear this band it conjures up images of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.....but they do it in their own way and it doesn't come off as copy cat. They make it fresh and new again. Amazing.
All folk rock history can be linked to Dylan... Beatles, Lennon & Harrison lyrics & Lennon's vocals emulated Dylan... Byrds... not only did the Byrds use Dylan songs, they emulated Dylan's game changing folk influence.... Springsteen took the verbal cues of Dylan's lyrics and ratcheted up Memphis Stax R&B to make great rock and roll... and Mark Knopfler also emulated Dylan's beautiful lyrical sensibilities in writing clever and contemporaneous statements about human experience... Dylan recognized Knopfler's kinship and worked with him as well. U2, Waterboys, CSNY... the list is endless
Came across this a few years ago & I've not heard anything to beat it since.
Checking in, 2024. TWOD rules.
Woo

Pitch perfect to what?
There was a really cool desperation I felt with 80s music and this really brings that sense of hopeless love back. Really enjoy this tune
its quality alright. i hear ya.
Well put.
well said!! exactly my thoughts.
It would seem we are all in agreement with you.

His guitar playing is understated, yet very powerful and effective.
Great guitar playing, such a unique style, tone and phrasing. He really has his own thing goin.'
To have Paul Shaffer play on one of your tunes has got to be like the ultimate high five. So good.
Charlie Hall on drums rules....
Charlie is that you?
What a great performance. Guitar lead is louder here than the recording and I think it's best.
Full of emotion....really grown to love this band recently.
Pretty cool that Paul played with them.
+Cliff Darby My thoughts exactly.
He must be pretty versatile because he played Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Earl Scruggs as well
I like when Paul overplays a chord @ 1.12 and the singer gives him the look of death :)
Same song on Austin City Limits: longer, more sax and more guitar. One of my favourites.
I have a lump in my throat...this is one my faves, and it will blow my eyes out on the night of Oct. 20th, 2017 in Columbus, OH.
Saint Jabroni I was at that show, front row. Terrific.
Jesus, this song is so fking good. Just brilliant performance. And how about that guitar solo?! Like getting a small glimpse of heaven.
Always thought it was cool that Paul would join in with the musical acts.
Such a tune love this band.

That drum performance tho…
Lets thank the German band Neu for this style of music back in early 70's. th-cam.com/video/GT0f1Tw3YXM/w-d-xo.html
Pastoral psychedelicism.
I asked this question when the La's were on why the hell does anyone let Paul Schaeffer play with them. I don't think they need his "help".
Addictive, i need rehab.
When was that aired?
Jeff Bezos nailing those keys.
so similar, bob dylan

+Michael Newton All the band members met and formed the band out of a mutual respect and love for Dylan's music, look it up

Jimmy Fallon on drums :D
Mike Oldfield vibes on the guitar
i wanna play sax in this band, cos no-one can hear it and you can stuff up anytime
You can hear it the entire time lol it’s just deep, but it legit gives the song a backbone it wouldn’t have without it
Dqveyboy
Bull shit play it like you want to
