- This is a review of the OtterBox defender V the OtterBox Defender pro for an iPhone 14. (links below) I have used OtterBox Defenders on my phones for years and love them. In the shop environment a phone can easily get damaged but OtterBox defender cases have protected all my phones without issue. This video is a comparison between the basic defender case and the defender pro.

OMG thank you. After googling for a compare & contrast of these 2 cases for my dad, there are only articles that talk about differences buried in their superfluous comments. And hardly any even touched on the actual physical side by side that allowed me to visualize it. Thank you thank you thank you!

I too have used the Otterbox products since about 2012, both the commuter and the defender. I work in the security industry doing installs and maintenance and regularly have my phone out atop a 7m extension ladder. I've dropped phones twice from atop the ladder and yes the case broke on one occasion, but it saved my phone and a replacement case is far cheaper than a new screen.
interesting thing to me is if they can make a case that makes the phone drop proof, why cant they just make the phone drop proof from the beginning 😂😂

just got a Galaxy S23 Ultra and after several cases bought and returned I have settled (once again) on an Otterbox Defender
Pro. As you nicely pointed out, it is well designed, fits properly, and most importantly for the Samsung, it protects the oh so vulnerable curved screen edges very well. Thanks for an articulate review based on the practical world!

Looking at both of them on amazon I had to refer to TH-cam to see if there was any practical difference. When i saw a car channel reviewing phone cases, i knew that was going to be the video with the information i was looking for. And you didn't disappoint.

Great Video. Thanks for that. I have mostly used Otterbox cases myself. I did swap over to Lifeproof for a while because it was water proof, but once the phones became water proof I swapped back. I come from the era before smartphones, so I’ve always preferred to carry my phone in a holster or clip on my hip rather than in my pocket. Due to that and the fact that I’ve always been hard on my phones, I’ve always opted for the most protective case I could find.
However, when I upgraded from my iPhone 5 to an eight, I decided to see if I could get use to carrying it in my pocket like most people do these days. When I upgraded to the 8 I decided to go with the commuter case which was surrounded by plastic instead of the Defender which worked out fine while I had the smaller 8.
When it was time to upgrade from my 8 to the 13 pro the phones had gotten substantially bigger. Being concerned that It might be easier to break because of this, I decided to go back to the more heavy duty (Defender Pro) case. This is where I ran into my issue. I’d gotten use to carrying my phone in my pocket as I had intended. However, I had to swap back to carrying it on my hip because the size of the phone & the tacky rubber surrounding the defender pro case was making it annoyingly difficult to pull my phone out of my sweaty pocket.
I don’t mind carrying it on my hip in a clip. I actually prefer it the majority of the time, but sometimes, I would like to carry it in my pocket or at least have the option.
So, basically my question to you is : Did the rubber casing on the defender seem to feel any less tacky than the rubber casing on the Defender Pro?
For me personally I have never used the otter box hip clip. I have never liked them and always carried the phone in my pocket from the iPhone 4 I started with all the way to the 15 I am using now. I have never had any issues getting it in and out of my pocket even though the outside is rubber

I got the otter box standard defender… ran my phone over with a fork lift at work.. yes it shattered my screen and back. But. Saved it enough if I kept it in the case it worked for the next year.. I just finally started replacing things. Thinking about going with the otter box pro this time

I've owned otter boxes for years. I always have had a good experience. I purchased the defender from Amazon for my iPhone 14 pro max. From the first week using the case pops out of belt clip when ever going down stairs or out of truck or even walking fast . Lost phone several times since but luckily noticed right away and recovered phone. The face side of the case has split around the parameter now. I don't use belt clip anymore as it continually falls out I purchased a spare clip when I ordered the defender and neither hold the phone. This is a great comparison of the two but does not show how the quality has gone down hill. I'm trying to get Otter Box to warranty it but I don't think it will be any better. The case is too thin compared to older cases. The opening for the silence button is so small and the front of the case impleads being able to easily move switch. Rubber is very dense on the buttons and makes it hard to operate the buttons. I'm interested in trying the pro series to see if it is any better quality. I would not recommend for anyone in the trades as it falls out constantly
I can not speak to the belt clip as I have never used them. As to the quality issues you speak of, maybe that is another difference between the pro and the standard defender. After the bench comparison I returned the standard case so I was not able to see any quality issues with use. The pro however has been outstanding and is as good of quality as the cases I have had in the past.
Why did otter box remove the built in screen protector? I don't like having to add one to it manually and buy separately
I think it is an improvement. Tempered glass that adheres to the phone screen is far superior to the thin plastic sheet that the older cases had.

I wanted to know the difference so thx. I have plain 13. Never had a otterbox of any kind. Still good with your decision? I ve done the best I know how w glass screen cover that I know of & good cases ect . But Always eventually wind up with a broken screen. Keep using it and try not to cut my finger & get glass shards. Lmk about the wireless thing please,if you have tried it Anyhow,it has been 3 months.still going good & is that the one to get? charging compatibility?they both say they are capable on Amazon but I don’t know anything about it. Want to try it out since its there. Shopping online is a pain!you have to feel stuff or its like a coin flip .get back w me about this task at hand 1st & if you do , I see you like old galaxies..we’ll talk a little. Thx for saving me some steps .
PS..almost forgot, the one you picked said 13& 14 on it. The iPhone pro might be a different story but what I have heard is case makers in general,got dimensions before phones were released and wanted to have them made & on the shelves before the iPhone came out.?.could be a issue,maybe not. Possibly slightly loose/tight case but mainly problems around the buttons &/or camera .have any calipers around? I have a different phone than yours so I don’t think that’s going to apply or help me but it might be something you might want to know. Thx again.
I love my otterbox pro. fits tight, and protects the phone. I do from time to time crack a screen protector but thats what its there for.

I have a question. Amazon doesn’t differentiate which defender case is pro or not so I bought the one without the lines in the back without knowing much else other than it being the defender series. So does the pro case come with raised bezels on the sides rather than just on the top and bottom of the phone? Because that’s really important for me. I’ve broken a phone screen because of that
both cases came up past the screen and were the same thickness. if it says pro it is pro. the lack of pro means it is the standard one.
@@dazecars that’s weird because on mine they only come up past the screen on the top and bottom of the phone while the sides are completely flat
Is yours for an iPhone 14? On my iPhone 14 both cases had the same raised edge all the way around. @@homerthompson6028
