Great choices. In 1973 as a medical student first going on the wards, both nurses and residents told men told me to always have a scissors with me. I can't tell you how often it was used for mostly routine but sometimes urgent problems, along with the SAK always in my pocket.. Anyone working in a hospital should have a scissors, especially since pulling out a usable knife is now frowned upon! The pen is interesting, now that most things are entered by computer, a pen like this would work. Always having a light is also useful for examining pupils, mouths and throats, etc. The Leatherman scissors grip can be used as a percussion hammer (reflexes)the pin for neurologic exam (if sterilized before and after each use), the magnifier for examining skin lesions, etc. This is a very versatile selection for medical personnel!!

I'm hoping it's real, looks like something Victorinox would actually come up with. While I find plenty of uses for the secondary blade and can opener, many find them useless and would like something else. This could work well paired with one of my Leathermans that already has a can opener.
Most of the 85mm Delemont knives gave you a nail file instead of secondary blade. Seems now they're being discontinued, leaving a gaping hole in the market, and it should be easy for Victorinox to put a nail file from their 84mm models into a 91mm. Pretty sure the 84mm nail file and the standard small blade are cross-compatible.
The package opener is economically designed, just taking a partially finished can opener and grinding it a little differently. At the moment the closest thing we have to this is the hawkbill blade on the Harvester and Pioneer Pruner, but those hooked blades can be rather dangerous when the strong back spring can cause them to violently snap down and bite deep into a finger (speaking from experience). I think maybe Victorinox has deliberately made those hawkbill models a bit obscure, that way it's mostly just the responsible enthusiasts that know to buy them. "Swiss Army 7" is a lot less marketable than "Harvester", and maybe that's the point.
I like the wood scales but I'm not sure what the design is. I interpreted the top "cat" area as a bird's eye view of a small section of a town, with something like a fountain square between two rows of houses. And then past that, maybe some form of bells?

Hi, just found your channel thanks to IsraelEDC and I did your edc and as someone who lives with a progressive, life threatening illness and spent over a hundred days hospitalized in the past year and a half - thank you for what you do. Subscribed

Hi Will! Thank you for your comment and your frankness on your situation. It has to be helpful for others in similar situations to hear this discussed openly. Sometimes I think there is pressure to hide if you have a medical problem like yours. Since you brought it up on this channel, may I ask if there are things about EDC that you enjoy being able to bring with you into the hospital? EDC items that make your life easier or more fun that are just perfect in that situation? I understand it can be difficult to feel at home in any meaningful way when you are hospitalized, but that makes me wonder if EDC can fulfill a tiny role for you in that situation.
Thank you very much for writing such a nice note!

One thing I love about the Swisscards is that you can take out the blade and then it’s good to go on a plane and in airports! Just check the blade in your luggage or leave it home. This is in contrast to 99% of SAKs where you’re just out of luck until you land, or out of luck entirely when not checking a bag.
This applies to the USA, but some international airlines prohibit all tools (including screwdrivers) and some prohibit all scissors, so outside the USA you just have to check their rules.

    • @thevineclimber

My at work EDC too is different from what I carry on days off and tailored to my needs. I work as a chef in a gastropub in London. So we have a lot of knives of all different kinds in the kitchen...yet I hate seeing people use those knives for tasks other than cutting food items! I have to open a lot of packaging of all kinds in the morning and to do that with a 8 inch chefs knife is unwieldy and I don't want to blunt my own chef knives. So I have a Sypderco Urban clipped inside my pocket, the advantage of that being it can be deployed very quickly with one hand, and it's UK legal. Next to that I have my Victorinox Moneyclip, for the scissors and nailfile, sometimes I need to do an emergency repair on a bit of fingernail, or cut open a piping bag during service and I don't want to go to the other side of the kitchen to get the scissors during a manic service. A Knipex Cobra XS comes in handy now and then for all kinds of little jobs too so that stays in my pocket. On my keychain attached to a beltloop by a NightIze S-biner I have a peanut lighter (for when I dash outside for a smoke and find I haven't got my normal lighter in my pocket for whatever reason) and an OLight i1R2EOS torch/flashlight.
Today I'm off work so I am EDCing my Victorinox Climber Plus (with pocket clip) and Leatherman Squirt in my coin pocket.

I also don't carry a pen because I use the pen on a swiss army knife! I took years of notes in college with them, and I find even with a lot of regular writing (which I don't do any more) the pen still lasts about a year. Glad to see someone else who's been able to make it work!

    • @donaldstrader7241
      @donaldstrader7241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Another plus is that the Victorinox multitool pens are pressurized so they will write in any position and they should not dry out for a very long time. If using it with the Compact model like Grovesy, or a Yeoman model, or other SAK with a hook, that makes a perfect place to carefully tuck the end to provide a full SAK's worth of pen handle. I had to go grab my Yeoman too as it has a magnifying glass. With my aging eyes a magnifier may become more and more useful. One of the uses for the SAK champ I keep on my desk, although I grab my loupe even more often. A great magnifying loupe, but not sure I would recommend it at the moment as it is made in Belarus. Sigh.

@Donald Strader Oh I find this post very interesting!! I don't know anything about loupes, but that seems very cool. I love the magnifying glass - it is a tool that actually takes a little practice. It's not a chip shot every time.

Bullhide leather gunbelt, with my CCW on the right (G48 in a Vedder light tuck holster) and my Swisstool Spirit X on the left in an American Benchcraft sheath. The two knives I carried were a Buck 346 Vantage and a Case sodbuster jr. I carry a bandanna every day, as well as my leather wallet which is also from American Benchcraft. Timex expedition scout wristwatch, and on my keychain is a Vic classic sd with the gadsden flag on it, and an Olight EOS flashlight. And in the wood shop, I don't really carry a pen but I do have to carry a pencil and tape measure on me all the time. Can't do my job without those. All that plus a bunch of emergency gear in my jeep. Have a great Saturday, Anne!

Yours is the SNK807. A very popular watch, especially among Seiko fanatics. Just don't get shower or swim with it. Seiko uses a proprietary crystal they call hardlex. It's flexible so the idea is that it won't shatter. The downside is it's vulnerable to scratches. Just get yourself a small tube of Polywatch so you can buff out those scratches and you'll be go to go. You know, I wonder if polywatch is good for cellidor handle scales. Thank you, Anne. I have been wondering what your choices for EDC are. I thought of my daughter (not drug dealers) when you mentioned pagers. She had to have one back in the day.
Your obsession with oxy wrenches is understandable... I'm obsessed with bottle openers. I needed one last year and was carrying only a tactical folding knife. It was one of the rare times I wasn't carrying a SAK. Now I always carry at least one opener... a Leatherman 930378 Carabiner key chain (it has a bottle opener) and usually a 84 or 91mm SAK.
I also have a Seiko SNK, a black SNK809 on a Bond NATO strap. It is one of my everyday/beater watches. Many horologists think highly of the older Seiko 5 series of watches. They can often be found new for around $100. I prefer them over Seiko's new 5 series.
I could have used the Leatherman Raptor when I was in LE and corrections. Nice tool... I would have used all the tools except the oxy wrench. BTW... I had a metal tactical pen with a glass breaker and TSA confiscated it when I was in a small airport in Oregon this morning... He said it was a weapon used in martial arts.
I have the original SwissCards in both of my vehicles. I often carried one in a shirt pocket when I was working. Very handy. I wonder if TSA would confiscate it if the letter opener was removed?
Anyway, I eagerly await your next video.

? - when it is used as a weapon.
I actually had an unusual experience with my watch. I was in an airport, and I complimented a man on his watch. Turned out he is a huge watch collector and when I looked it up it looked like he was wearing a $10000 watch! Lol he actually did not appear to look down on my watch, so I guess the hype is true. Prices on this watch have gone up quite a bit. They are discontinued but available still, but in Amazon US they are$130 and more now. I got it for about $105 near Christmas, when the process dropped a bit.

Nice EDC selection. My older brother is a retired nurse but if he wasn't retired I might consider getting him those Leatherman shears 🤔... nah, he was a bone head when we were kids😂 jk. My EDC is usually my Surge +Crunch, Tinker Small in my coin pocket a classic SD on my keychain and my custom Buck 722 folder ( gift from the wife) but I'm an aircraft mechanic so my required stuff is different than yours. There's nothing worse than being crammed in a crawl space or up on a lift 50 foot high and having to go back to your tool box because you need to simply tighten something like a bolt/screw or fluid line or cut or crimp a wire 😭😀

@VineClimber yep, spyderco caribbean and olight warrior 2 mini for work. I have a small brewery and the olight is great for just pulling out your pocket when I need to see into tanks or check that casks are properly clean. The knife is virtually rust proof so great for working in whats very often a damp environment due to the constant washing and cleaning.

Cool EDC, I like the Seiko. I'm wearing a modified Seiko SKX on a black Nato strap for 22 years now and it still works perfect. As tool I got the farmer X in black in a deep carry clip.

You are clearly more advanced than me.I looked up that watch and there's no way to see the automatic movemen! Which I'm guessing is because it's a diving watch. It looks really great. But I would be like, "I want to see stuff move if I'm paying all that money for it!" On the other hand, I could also grow up. Lol
The black Alox - most of them have a store's logo on them. So before I get one of those I have to find which logo is best! Does yours have a logo?

    • @marcelpfeiffer6587

@@thevineclimber No I'm not advanced at all, I guess. I'm using the SKX because it was way under 100$ and has a screw-down-crown/ is suited for diving. The farmer X has a logo but the pocket clip is glued over thie shop logo. So another problem in life solved.

I have not! Every time I see it, it's always full price. And literally has been that way for months! The climber has actually more functionality and sells for less than half the price at times. I ordered one online from a store that put some cool scales on it.

@@thevineclimber I agree with you and Grovesy on that! I generally EDC the Climber on my days off work and prefer the toolset over that on the Compact, and I don't mind the couple of millimetres extra thickness. The small blade is my go-to for opening packages etc. The awl is i.m.o. the best backtool on it although I rarely use it. Also I know (from my old GAK) that the combotool i.e. combined bottle/can opener is awkward to use as a Phillips screwdriver, whereas the conventional can opener on the Climber does this well.
