Run the dim mode for more than 3 mins, then shut the flashlight off. This activates the memory mode. Now when you double click, the dim mode will activate first.
I've gone through a dozen reviews of guys talking about this Rovyvon A8 while cycling through the features on some cool tabletop, but seeing it in these real-world scenarios and creative applications is hugely helpful, I love this so much! Thank you for doing something different!
Oh that's such a nice compliment! Thank you! I have to be honest though. I don't really think I'd be that good of a flashlight reviewer! But I love it so much I had to talk about it so I had to do something different. I so appreciate the compliment and have a great day!
Mine totally stopped working after only 2 charge cycles and not much use at all except for quick on and off use. But Rovyvon was super quick and easy to send me a replacement... so wanted to offer that plug here. I hope after this their product matches their customer service.
No that's very interesting. Of course, any company can make a dud but it does matter a whole lot what they do when it happens. It's hard to make an EDC channel when I have no desire to go and buy another flashlight.
The A8 is amazing! The A8 attached to a SAK Signature has been my EDC for a while now, and I have had no reason to change it. An idea I’ve used many times with the A8 is sticking the magnetic pocket clip to the invisible metal corner bead that runs up the entire corner of almost all drywall, and then using the side lights. For example, I do that next to my son’s changing table with the red light to change him while keeping the room mostly dark so he can fall back asleep or wake up more gently.
Pairing the magnet with the Swiss army light is super clever. The funny ones with the car and dog were not so bad. It makes me wonder if there are light-up dog toys for nighttime fun.
Yes it was crazy! I cut a lot of it, though, because I didn't want to tell people all the features of this flashlight - many videos have done that much better than I would. Thanks for noticing - I hope you found an idea which will be useful, or something that will spark your creativity!
@@thevineclimber my trusty InChargeX cable should do the job, it's been attached to my keys for a year now works great and replaces virtually every cable. For travelling might also get the 1ft version
Thank you for the great review! I have been trying to decide between the A3 and the A8 for a long time, but now I'm convinced to buy the A8! It has so much more value and way more use cases!
I love the A8 so much! I'm glad the video helped. I tried out an E5 recently because I wanted to try the dual fuel system. But it really just doesn't have the features that I want. Not even the E8 has the features of the A8, which seems to just be an amazing product.
Flashlights have come a long way and the Rovyvon A8 is high tech. Thanks for the demo. Your husbands' comments took me back to the late 1970's when I used my scuba mask mounted MiniQ40 Underwater Kinetics flashlight for a rifle mounted light, strapped onto the barrel. I still have a MiniQ40 and have taken it down 100ft under water during night dives and it was a great hands free light for spearfishing. Keep the videos coming.
I unfortunately found that the most useful way for me to go hands free is to hold my A5 in my mouth (my A5 just finally died after 2+ years of daily use, so I JUST got an A8). Even clipping it to my hat isn't good enough for the work I do. Due to this, I occasionally spray electrical lubricant into the USB-C port to keep it from corroding, which I believe has allowed me to get the most from the A5. Today (12/4/24) my new A8 will be put into service. Seems to be even more useful, and the UV emitter seems to be much better. I'll keep ya posted
I’ve recently been obsessed with flashlights recently; Keychain, pocket, tactical Flashlights. I’ve been amazed at the lumens on them from 180, 500, 1000, 1200, 1750, 3,000….diverse tail-switching, some magnet and even different ways to charge, I’ve been learning about the throw distances. I’ve never even thought about the distance a light shines or spot focusing-I’m a lite prepper although toast if any chaos or disasters erupt. I do love this flashlight features and think more flashlights need to add a couple of these. I hope you do more videos, it’s nice to see prepared and inform women. I’ve been learning so much lately
Thank you for your comment! It's a good reminder for things I am still learning about too. Lol I like your description of being a lite prepper! I think I will do more videos.I am thinking about doing one as a follow up on the Rovyvon A8 because of all of the interesting things people have told me in the comments section. Thank you for watching! And commenting.
That magnetic clip looks pretty useful. Sadly I use mine as a keychain torch, so had to unclip all the magnetic accessories as they would just constantly catch on the keys or metal objects I leant against.
Yeah, that happens all the time to me. I usually have it on my keys, too. But the worst part is that the magnet is not strong enough to hang my keys on the refrigerator!!
Hello ! I'm a part of your 1% females followers 😉 I'm a little bit late on this one but I really enjoyed it ! I don't own an A8 but an E7 which I enjoy so much here's why : the blue GITD, the 2 buttons for the torch and lantern and the dual fuel... those 3 features are strong enough (especially the 2 firsts) to make me choose the E7 a year ago over the A8 and its tinyness and its 2 magnetic features (BTW this last one could be easily done for the E7 I think). If Rovyvon updates the A8 with the GITD and two buttons features, I couldn’t help myself to buy it 😅 Thanks a lot for your sharing 🌿🍁🌸
Lol hi Viola!! Thank you for commenting! Yes, GITD and dual fuel and the 2 button function are awesome! I do get it. I have an E5, I believe, and I do not know why their pocket clip is so... crummy. Why is there no magnet??? I feel like combining these 2 would result in the ultimate, unbeatable EDC. but, I still need my housecleaning UV light, if you catch my drift. Got to know the bathroom is CLEAN!!
Great ideas! FYI, I believe A8 has the memory feature, and remembers the last intensity setting used for more than 3 minutes (I believe.) I just got the A8, and have set mine to start from the lowest intensity when I double click. Just set it on the intensity you want as default and leave it on for 3 minutes. Not sure if this was already mentioned in the comments, but thought it's worth pointing out.
Oh, yes, and that is a really great idea. The only reason that it doesn't work for me is because I use the light mostly to take the dogs out at night and I have it on a higher setting for more than 3 minutes, so I would have to reset it every single time. I should have said that more clearly! I hope you enjoy your flashlight, - seems like a word thing to say, but it's so cool to have a tool that can do so much!
@@thevineclimber Ah, I see the problem now. I guess I haven't used mine much yet to face this, but I can see how my "memorized" setting could be messed up easily. This shows the inherent flaw in this design.
I have a Chinese knockoff clone of this light, and so far it’s amazing. As far as a weapon light, it won’t work “mounted”, but it CAN be used as a backup weapon light by holding it in your support hand using the “cigar” technique. This allows you to fire your pistol with both hands while holding the light such that you can illuminate the target.
Thank you for that! It's great to see a female perspective as you have come up with uses that I've not seen elsewhere! I've just ordered one along with the A28 (larger version) to compare. I'll keep the A8 whatever as a keychain light and whether I keep the A28 or not depends on how much brighter (if at all) the body and sidelights are.
Oh that is very interesting. I would love to see a comparison video on that!! I often wonder if I would like that light Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@thevineclimber Okay, well I received them both today. Obviously, the A28 is brighter in the flashlight mode. It is also brighter in the white side light mode. However, both the red and UV seem to have the same output level as the A8 which is slightly disappointing (more with the UV as the red is very bright anyway). I'll definitely keep the A8 and attach it to my keyring but with a quick release ring instead of the supplied ones. Although not quite the slam dunk of the A8 I think I'll keep the A28 as well. I have quite a few EDC size lights already (all Olights) but while great as conventional flashlights, none have the A28's crazy versatility. Just so many use cases!
@parjau4554 I'm so sorry that it took me until now to read this but I'm really happy to read this information. I have been thinking about getting an a 28 because the A8 kind of failed me when I needed a brighter light. I hate to say it because I love the A8 so much. But the light was just not bright enough to compete with ambient lights in the area. I was worried though that the sidelights would be a lot brighter. And I really don't want that. Because I don't need to be blinded by the red light. That I'm trying to use to preserve my night vision. I think this is a really great piece of information and I probably will pick up an a 28 now! I'm sorry about the ridiculous punctuation. But sometimes this program just puts in punctuation wherever it wants. And I'm just too tired to fix it right now.
Fantastic video thank you, this EDC flashlight has been connected to my keychain, with my Keyzmo, since it came out. For my outdoor/camp light I use it’s larger sibling the A28 Gen 2. It’s bigger, brighter, and has a much longer run time but all the same versatility & features this one has.
Oh that's a great piece of advice! I haven't taken this one camping yet, but I know it won't last. I'm going to look into the A28! Thanks for the advice!
I just bought an A8, and I have 2 questions about it. 1. How do you access the red/blue modes? It says triple click, but that doesn’t work. I just find the UV light and can switch between it and the different red and red flashing modes. 2. How do you swap the end clip to the magnetic clip? I’ve tried needle nose pliers and squeezed hard enough I was afraid of breaking the existing clip. I tries a screwdriver 🪛 tip forcing down one end trying to force the clip to release by side pressure, but was unsuccessful. Help me please? 😊
It's a slightly different model that has the blue and red lights. The u v light takes the place of the blue light! If you're talking about the magnetic part of the tail cap? It actually just pushes on OVER the top of the keyring holder. You don't have to remove anything! Thanks for commenting with a question! 🔦
I replaced my Nitecore NU25 headlamp with the USB-C A8 with the red light. I have to carry a hat anyway because I am bald, and it can hook on the bill when I need it to perform like that. I often prefer to hold it in my hand when hiking because I don't like blinding people when I walk up on trail and would rather focus on the ground before me at night rather than down trail. It has been great for that, although I am kind of scared that the clip will fall off and I can't find it. haha. Also good for road walking or emergency with the red blinky while hiking.
I do not think so!! It's a bit brighter, but you lose some, too...I think that it does not have the magnetic Tallapoosa, for example, and of course is not as small for a keychain... I keep wanting one, but can't come up with a good reason to buy one!
@VineClimber EXACTLY! I believe it's one of the best underrated lights out. I've been given counterfeit money before so this light actually helps me prevent that from happening again. Anyway, I'm a huge fan. Keep those videos coming. ☺️
Hi, Nice to see you reviewing Flashlights. You describe the Rovyvon as 'The Swiss army knife of Flashlights'. Have you seen the Glowstone Flashlight though? That's designed specifically to be adapted to any scenario, be it DIY, biking, camping or even SCUBA diving. Would love to see you review it! Love your videos btw. Please keep creating them 😍
Thomas! I have definitely not seen that flashlight. I cannot wait to see it! I have lost all motivation to review any flashlight because this is the best flashlight that ever existed on the face of the Earth and I can't imagine anything better. Until you wrote this comment. And now I need to go find this flashlight and buy it!
Well. I went and took a look. It is rather expensive, especially if you want the attachments which are needed to be able to do a lot of the cool things. If the suction cup thing attaches on to regular walls, that would be awesome. Looks like it has a lot of promise, but I can't invest that much in something yet that doesn't really have any reviews out there! It does look like it's gonna be a winner but I question the throw distance.
@@thevineclimber Hahahaha🤣love that you didn't review any other flashlights because 'It was the best Flashlight that ever existed on earth' 🤣😂😂I feel similar about the Glowstone. Funny how passionate people can get over a light!
Somehow your husband's answer regarding a weapon mounted light surprises me about as much as the existence of your channel 😅 I can imagine you have a happy marriage
Bright ideas for something simple as a flashlight. Magnet cap, USB-rechargeable battery, variety of light modes - turns into versatile tool. Thank you for such detailed review!😊
Thank you! I kind of feel like this is a flashlight for everybody except for people who don't want to get used to the user interface, which is of necessity kind of complicated. Thank you very much for watching the video and writing a nice note. :)
Some great tips for this light! Regarding the door tip -- I think it would be better balanced on the top of the door trim against the wall rather than the door. Many doors tend to get out of adjustment and tend to swing and/or not hang straight, which might make it fall off pretty easily. (Plus, I would think in a multi-person household, someone would just instinctively close the door without realizing that the other person balanced the light there.) And regarding the using the light as a lanyard to a SAK, I'd also consider a magnet attachment, such as a MagNut from Keybar or a MagConnect from KeySmart. This would make it easier to use the SAK when the light is in the way of using the knife or tools. I've attached my keys to my 58mm SAK via a MagConnect and have used MagNuts to connect paracord or other stuff to some of my 91mm SAKs. (Although, I would state that I'd use these for items that tend to say in the pocket or pouch as sometimes it's easy to snag something and pull them apart)
@@thevineclimber Also, another way to use the magnetic clip in a room is that houses that have drywall will typically have drywall screws to attach it to the studs. So, you can literally hang the light to the wall using the magnetic clip and the screw head locations.
@Richard Neff Yes someone else commented on this too! It actually doesn't work in my house on any screws I could find, but it does work on the corner bead. That is actually amazing!
Door hinges and hinge-plates too. You can really start finding a ton of magnetic surfaces in a house when you get one of these and want to find any place you can hang it up.
That's so nice!Thank you! That was my 1st attempt at trying to put different videos together, I think. But I've got one other use! People have told me that you can hang it on the wall and it is true! At my house it only works on the corner bead which is metal. Other people are able to hang it on their drywall screws or nails
@@thevineclimber, tons of useful ideas, even places like under a tv tray, which has metal brackets, leave it attached to the fridge, side of a kitchen counter appliance, washer, dryer, water tank, window ac unit/fan, nightstand or headboard, the chains that hang from ceiling fans or on the fixture themselves as you showed, nail heads in a gazebo, garage, cellar or attic beams, the handle on the side of a grill, clipped onto your shoe laces, jacket hood/collar or hoodie strings, hung from the center strap/handle or zipper of a camping tent, the possibilities are endless, nevermind if you have 3m adhesive magnetic strips, pucks or plates that you can put everywhere, giving even more imagination, haha.
I love the A8. It knocked the OLight S1 Mini out of my pocket. My only problem with it is the method of setting the default mode. There have been a few times that I thought it was in moonlight mode, and I lit up the room when I was trying to be discreet.
Yes, I agree completely! That is literally my only problem with it. That and I don't love the clear/ silver theme. I completely adore this flashlight and use it all the time. Just like a Swiss army knife; you can't imagine how useful it is until you start using it all the time!
I appreciate all the various uses you've shown, but basically I want a reliable, sturdy, small but bright flashlight for my granddaughter to carry at college when she walks to her dimly light campus or to the parking structure at night. Would this work for that?
Yes, and if she uses a phone, that's not an apple phone, she can charge it with her phone charger. There are also probably a lot of other options that would work for that though
Your video didn't mention this and I found out about it from someone else: Turn the A8 on to normal flashlight mode (two clicks) and set it to low (however many more single clicks). Now, LEAVE IT ON. For three minutes. After that (or five or six because you forgot), turn it off. Turn it back on with two clicks. You've saved the low setting. This works for any of the "stay on" modes. If I want a light for a second full brightness, I'll use that momentary mode. If I'm turning on a light though, I want it on low unless I turn it on brighter, always.
Thanks for the nice overview. An all-in-one "SAK" light is nice but I'd want a laser too. There are some junky UV/laser/white lights out there but I'm waiting for a nicer company like this to release one. [Olight ones lack UV, last I checked, and seem a bit pricey.] Laser is a great safety feature because you can signal for help a mile or more away. You don't need to shine it in their eyes but if a police officer or park ranger sees a street sign (or some other reflective structure) in the distance flashing SOS, they'd go investigate why.
You have a fantastic attitude! Very refreshing! I don't have this light but you've got me thinking about it. How does it carry on a belt vs. A pocket? Does the clip go fully on the belt or will it go halfway down? Is the high run time decent? Thank you!
I feel so silly for saying this, but I use tlthe high setting a lot and I don't notice when it steps down. I feel like I must be very unobservant with regards to that. My belts are 1.5 inches and it does NOT fit on them. I carry it sometimes hooked to a belt loop with a carabiner-style clip, and it is so lightweight I don't notice it. Ill try the high run time and actually watch it!
Hey Anne 👊 Cool video, the A8 makes for a fantastic EDC - need to get another one, as I gave my last one to my brother. I really appreciate all the mini demo's👌 I have always liked the S18 in yellow, when Dave showed it at Knife Centre... need to still get one and you've made my mind up, if they are still available 😊 Thanks for sharing, Atb Gus👍
Dude, I know everybody is talking about the S18, but it is such a kick a** knife. They are still around some places; Amazon US had some last I looked. I love to hear that you gave your flashlight away! People who understand the importance of being prepared for life can introduce other people to that concept and I love it so much! As always, thank you so much for coming by!
@@thevineclimber yeah they're knock offs. They're ok, but the UV doesn't really work 😏 the difference between them and the Rovyvon really surprised me.
Morning Anne, I've been using the a5x for a few years now, clipped to a Ti carabiner with a leatherman squirt. It's never not in my pocket. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but I might upgrade just for the usb C charging. Cheers 🍻
That's great to hear about the longevity of that one. The USB C is fantastic.I have one charger for my computer, phone, earbuds, and flashlight. And they all charge reasonably quickly so they just take turns. And then you can give your old one away! Lol that's what I'm going to do with the Gen 3.
I love the A8 but mine fell from my front pocket, hit the sidewalk and stopped working. Nothing. Nada. It wasn't that far of a fall. I doubt I'll buy another one because an EDC light should be able to take that sort of thing and still work. I also have the E8 which is awesome (and I hope I dont drop it). Love your channel and always look forward to your vids
Awesome, thanks, Brad! Wow. Yeah, that's bad. For $40 it needs to be able to handle that. You are the 1st person I've heard mention something like that. I drop mine all the time and haven't had any problems with it. But I'm sure it's one of those things if you hit just the wrong way... Isn't it interesting? Even though it could be that yours was a dud, you really wouldn't buy that product again because it didn't live up to the longevity that you thought it should have.I took some flack on my video about the Leatherman Skeletool RX, because it broke and I was upset, but I think it's about emotions - it let me down! Now, I do get why that irritated people because Leatherman has a really good warranty. I felt like I don't have time to send it in for a repair or replacement in a life safety situation. Have you thought about contacting Rovyvon to see if they would replace it for free? Here's the page that they discuss it on. You have 2 years after purchase! It is supposed to be a defect in manufacturing the product but I would say failing to survive a fall of 4' or whatever is a defect in this flashlight. www.rovyvon.com/pages/warranty If you contact them, would you mind coming back here and letting us know how it went?
Yes, it does! Thank you - I should have been more clear about that in the video. But then after I do that, I will go take the dogs out and have it on another setting for 3 minutes and reset it! Thank you so much for watching and sharing information! :) Anne
Thanks for for the vid and A8 uses. Considering getting a Royvon E7(R) but will look at the A8 also. I have to admit I had a little chuckle at your expense when you started talking about using it as a weapon light. 😄 Love to hear your husbands reaction to that segment. Seems durable if can survive playing fetch. How about longevity? Let me know and again thanks for sharing!
LOL I have to admit, I didn't see that idea coming!! I was like, well, uh, no... I didn't tell him why I was asking though. The A8 I used for most of the video I got in September. I use it a minimum of 2 times a day, but sometimes many more times, and sometimes for extended periods. It's on my keys so it gets thrown around a bit and tossed in bags - no damage at all except the color in the button seems to be wearing off a little. I have not used any good battery preservation strategies and have had no problems with the battery., either. It's really a fantastic product for basically anything... except not as a candle or weapon light! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I would love the backup battery. I never seen to notice the light that says you're running out of battery! I'm afraid of getting with flashlights like I am with Swiss army knives!
@@thevineclimber “Ann (or is it Ann with an e) come over to the flashlight reviewer side! It is your destiny!” Darth Vader sound effect omitted because with a husband who’s first thought when you mention “what’s a use for a light?” responds “weapon light!” one leaves no room for ambiguity, misunderstanding or misinterpretation!
@William Phillips ROFL OH my gosh that is the most hysterical comment I have ever seen! Also because your comment made me think that you did flashlight reviews I went to your channel and see you just added a Massad Ayoob video to your playlist. That man is a legend! Pretty sure he would not endorse the proposed use of the flashlight as a weapon mounted light.
Clarification and other uses: Dim mode clarification -- Hold against hand, THEN DOUBLE CLICK (for turbo), then it takes just one click to moonlight every time and you can do it with your eyes closed. You can feel the heat go away instantly so you have no chance of accidentally blinding yourself. Attaching it to a watchband (she used hairties) during walks is handy. (also a WAY more reasonable solution to the completely unreasonable idea of using it as a weapon light) When night walking you can turn the red flasher on and just chuck it in your back pocket...it is BRIGHT. The magnet is quite strong and can be used to hang very light things to something magnetic. a couple keys will hold to a metal door or racking very securely. Wall corners, that stick out (not the interior corner of a room), often have a strip of metal to protect from the drywall getting chipped off. This thing holds to them just fine. The magnetic tailcap can be glued on for more security if you know you dont plan on removing it. A friend of mine has one attached to his multitool as shown in the video. He leaves the light dangling outside his pocket and the clip is oriented so it is open at the top (like a U) when hanging. He can quickly slip his car key and fob on and off the clip (he prefers they hang outside his pocket for whatever reason) and has never had the clip come loose. A small rangerband or shrinktubing, or even a single wrap of 550 cord inner line would remove that chance altogether if you are paranoid. He will turn on the red flasher when he is walking around a warehouse so forklift drivers notice his butt sticking out from under racking or the like while he does inspection. It is indeed THE keychain light and zipper-pull light for winter coats and go-bags. I EDC a Warrior 3, but almost anything with a keychain or zipper has one of these A8s attached.
Nice! They are getting more and more expensive now. I think they've been discontinued for a while, but a lot of people must have had some back stock that has been getting sold off. I paid just about $100 a couple years ago.
They make purpose built lights for this but as long as you are watching your dog and they don't eat it, I don't really see what the harm is in using something you already own which is good for so many purposes! I'm guessing that you have one already! Such a fantastic product that has completely removed from me the desire to buy any other flashlights which makes it really hard to have an EDC TH-cam channel.
@@thevineclimber The issue is that I’ll never remember to bring a along a collar light, but i’ll always have the A8 in my pocket. I feel your pain about other flashlights, my father picked up an Olight Arkfeld for me which is a great light, but it mostly sits in my work bag in case i need to point at something with the laser… bit of a waste, but the A8 is smaller and does more useful things
Thanks for the video about rovyvon A8, great video. And if you are interested in other rovyvon flashlight, please let me know here freely. Thanks again.
If you let it 3 minutes in the moonlight setting ( lowest ) then it memorises that settings and next time you push the button 2 times it starts with the lowest setting I am surprised you haven't figured it out.
Thanks for making that clear! I should have made it clearer in the video. I do know - but then when I use it on another setting, it resets itself to that setting, if I use it for longer than 3 minutes.
It is almost perfect, but not perfect. For being perfect for me, the side white light should be not 4000K but 3000K. The side light is very useful for reading in the night or for lightening the room and the best color temperature for night, before sleep is 2700K - 3000K. I suggest this color temperature for the next generation of this model. Thank you for the nice review! I watched it and ordered the light.
Oh yes, you are totally right! That would make it better! I hope you love it. I use mine every day and have been for like a year. Well, I did get a Gen 4, but just because the button was better. I really like your suggestion.
I carry one every day and agree with all your comments. One use for the UV is for all the dog lovers. Did you ever have your dog on your lap or next to you on the couch and note the distinct odor of anal glands? The UV light shows all the spots for immediate clean up!!
A cheap upgrade you can do, use a soft flame lighter and some leather gloves to unscrew the cap (heat to 500f to melt the loctite), remove the guts and paint the inside with glow in the dark paint, taking care not to coat the little window the side lights shine through. Voilà! glow in the dark polycarbonate that still lets you use the UV as a UV
Really? That sounds like something I would hesitate to do, but I love the idea!! Thank you for sharing it - in case anyone is up for a bit of a challenge! :
@@thevineclimber Well trying to paint the whole inside neatly was quite difficult so to be honest I just did a few polka dots on the ciruit board. Still works well though!
Yeah, I got out the manual- IPX6. For interested people, "Devices with IPX5 and IPX6 rating can survive water jets and are colloquially referred to as water-resistant. The difference between the two tests is only in the intensity (pressure) of the water jet. For the IPX5 certification, the water pressure is 4.4psi and, for the IPX6 certification, the water pressure is 15psi. In both cases, the test duration is 1 minute and the distance is 3 meters. " from www.audioreputation.com/ipx6/ accessed 3/12/23. Do you do something in particular that makes you want a higher IPX rating?
It's jot the Swiss army knife.. It's a way to overprized copy of the tunenge flashlights. The tunenge S12+ goes for under 20$ and got the exact same functions and exact same led
Whenever I hear anyone compare something to a swiss army knife, I think, "Idiot alert!" This video was no exception. Stop babbling and waving your arms. I have the A8. While not terrible, it isn't great. In that respect, perhaps your comparison is apt. The A8 is lacking in so many ways. The magnets are a problem. Even removed, there are issues. Not useful to have to hold the knife, so it can hold the flashlight. The clip is not secure. The flashlight falls out if you actually do anyghing. The clip is just a way tolose the flashlight. Just move a bit. Gotta love the light shining in yours eys on the laptop. The A8 UI keeps going into lockout mode on its own. The A8 makes a lousy camp light, a loust bedside lights. The A8 has PWM issues. You don't have a car flashlight? In most modes, the A8 drops down, making it less than ideal for many purposes. This video was a waste of time to watch.
Rovyvon is cheap chinese crap (I had one and hated it... then it malfunctioned and burned a hole in the pocket of my jacket). Buy an Olight... still made in China, but has an American subsidiary (Olight USA), and much better quality. I know you're getting paid to shill for them, so I forgive you your ignorance.
That really sucks that your flashlight almost set you on fire! Was it a battery problem or was the light on too long and it got too hot??? While I can't say I agree with your assessment, I would love to try another flashlight with similar functionality. Can you make a recommendation? I haven't gotten too deep into the Olight offerings except for the most inexpensive options.
Run the dim mode for more than 3 mins, then shut the flashlight off. This activates the memory mode. Now when you double click, the dim mode will activate first.
Thank you!!!!! I needed that info
Thank you!
I must have accidentally done that. I was happy it happened, but I didn't know how
Oh yeah.....! Thank you SO much for this! 😊
any mode memorizes that way. people can also learn to read the damn manuals. reading isnt fuckin hard
So true!
@pudimdecana51 that is so nice! Thank you very much!!
Yes! That is such an awesome trick, and what a beautiful way to use it!! :)
Thanks for the real-life application examples! Really show the strength of the flashlight.
Pairing the magnet with the Swiss army light is super clever. The funny ones with the car and dog were not so bad. It makes me wonder if there are light-up dog toys for nighttime fun.
There are! That's what gave me the idea. 😀 Dogs love them. ❤️
Thanks for watching, and for commenting on my favorite part!!
@@thevineclimber You really put a lot of work into this video!
Yes it was crazy! I cut a lot of it, though, because I didn't want to tell people all the features of this flashlight - many videos have done that much better than I would.
Thanks for noticing - I hope you found an idea which will be useful, or something that will spark your creativity!
The UV light is useful when camping for looking for arachnids (mainly scorpions) which fluoresce. They are worth avoiding!
Wow!!! That's a really great use! Lol I'm afraid to try it...
These ideas are fantastic. This might be the flashlight I choose for backpacking from now on. Reduces the need for so much redundant gear now
Thank you! Yes, please consider bringing some sort of charging option!!!
@@thevineclimber my trusty InChargeX cable should do the job, it's been attached to my keys for a year now works great and replaces virtually every cable. For travelling might also get the 1ft version
What battery do you carry?
Now THAT is a real multifunction flashlight! Very cool story!!
Thanks for the demonstrations, Anne. That game of fetch looked like alot of fun! Have a great weekend!
Thanks David, you too!
You are really ingenious. :-)
Lol thanks! I do love this flashlight. It comes in handy all the time.
One little trick I'm enjoying is using the end magnet as the backing to mount on fabrics, like anywhere on a tent, or curtains.
@@thevineclimber oh yesss for the UV Light 😁 have a great day Ann !
Great ideas!
FYI, I believe A8 has the memory feature, and remembers the last intensity setting used for more than 3 minutes (I believe.)
I just got the A8, and have set mine to start from the lowest intensity when I double click.
This was so informative and yet so entertaining. Thank you for your humor and analysis. You have a funny personality, lol!
Oh thank you! Lol I recently tried to switch to another one. And it really just couldn't do it for me.
I often wonder if I would like that light
Thank you for watching and commenting!

@@thevineclimber - Thank you!
It has been great for that, although I am kind of scared that the clip will fall off and I can't find it. haha.
Also good for road walking or emergency with the red blinky while hiking.
thanks for making such an involved and creative hands on video!! any real need for the A28? 🤔
I do not think so!! It's a bit brighter, but you lose some, too...I think that it does not have the magnetic Tallapoosa, for example, and of course is not as small for a keychain... I keep wanting one, but can't come up with a good reason to buy one!
I absolutely love my A8. It never leaves my pocket, even when I'm in bed. Lol. Anyways, love your reviews. Great work. Thank you!
Well, yeah, then you have it for if you have to get up at night! Makes complete sense to me!
@@thomasgostelow406Yes, I look forward to seeing someone review it in the future!
Somehow your husband's answer regarding a weapon mounted light surprises me about as much as the existence of your channel 😅 I can imagine you have a happy marriage
LOL yes, we do! But he is kinda boring with regards to multitools. He has carried the same Leatherman for like 15 years.
(Plus, I would think in a multi-person household, someone would just instinctively close the door without realizing that the other person balanced the light there.)
And regarding the using the light as a lanyard to a SAK, I'd also consider a magnet attachment, such as a MagNut from Keybar or a MagConnect from KeySmart.
Oh those are wonderful tips! And I've never heard of those products before. Thank you!
Great list of near all possible uses for this little torch that I'd actually do, very useful and well produced info.
Thank you.
@Gman1024 wow. That's a great list!!! Truly multifunctional! It solves the lighting problems. You didn't even know you had!
Fantastic video. I’m looking for my first edc flashlight and this was very helpful!
Awesome! I think you'll really love this one. :)
How do you activate the amber modes? any help would be appreciated.
This is the best review of the A8 flashlight. Greetings from Ecuador.
Have one of those on my key ring very useful flashlight. 🦉
Yeah, it's pretty great! Thank you for watching and commenting. :)
Great video! I am going to order a Rovyvon now! Thanks for sharing. Robert

@@thevineclimber Your welcome
It is supposed to be a defect in manufacturing the product but I would say failing to survive a fall of 4' or whatever is a defect in this flashlight.
www.rovyvon.com/pages/warranty
If you contact them, would you mind coming back here and letting us know how it went?
Great review with very resourceful ideas!!
Glad it was helpful!
If you leave the "moonlight" mode running for 3 minutes, that becomes the default double-click mode.
Yes, it does! Thank you - I should have been more clear about that in the video. But then after I do that, I will go take the dogs out and have it on another setting for 3 minutes and reset it!
Thank you so much for watching and sharing information! :)
Anne
Great overview & ideas!

Clarification and other uses:
Dim mode clarification -- Hold against hand, THEN DOUBLE CLICK (for turbo), then it takes just one click to moonlight every time and you can do it with your eyes closed. You can feel the heat go away instantly so you have no chance of accidentally blinding yourself.
Attaching it to a watchband (she used hairties) during walks is handy. (also a WAY more reasonable solution to the completely unreasonable idea of using it as a weapon light)
When night walking you can turn the red flasher on and just chuck it in your back pocket...it is BRIGHT.
Nice FJ
Nice watch have the same exact one😊
Nice! They are getting more and more expensive now. I think they've been discontinued for a while, but a lot of people must have had some back stock that has been getting sold off. I paid just about $100 a couple years ago.
Excellent use suggestions. Thanks!

Great video about a great little light, I will be copying your dog tracking method

If you let it 3 minutes in the moonlight setting ( lowest ) then it memorises that settings and next time you push the button 2 times it starts with the lowest setting
I am surprised you haven't figured it out.
Actually I followed you because I like victorinox and it is nice to find more common ground
And isn't the Victorinox "family" incredibly awesome?! Very nice and helpful people, and not overly excitable
👍 Thanks
I carry one every day and agree with all your comments. One use for the UV is for all the dog lovers. Did you ever have your dog on your lap or next to you on the couch and note the distinct odor of anal glands? The UV light shows all the spots for immediate clean up!!
Oh my gosh that is a FANTASTIC use! Thank you so much!
@Git Man I think it's a fantastic idea. The glow in the dark feature of the a 7 is something. I really wish the a 8 had! Nice mod!
Only the limitation is IP grade for water proof.
@@thevineclimber hmmm.. it is too long to understand about your comment because I'm not good for English. please give me a time.
I put the magnetic tail on my little light but I didn’t know the clip was magnetic 🧲 😂 I fill silly 🙃 but thanks 🙏
Lol I know, this light has everything! I'm glad you got something out of the video. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It wasn’t made to be a candle, a weapon light, or two lights in the first place.
Very true! But if it accomplishes all other lighting needs you have, that's a pretty great light!
please do not point a magnet at your laptop screen. Great video btw
I have an A7
Do you know how that differs from the A8?
@@thevineclimber the A7 has multiple modes and a GITD feature..firefly, low, med, High, strobe, side low & high and UV side light..no red light tho
Ooh, firefly would be cool. And GITD is by definition awesome!
@@thevineclimber yes it never really ever stops glowing lol it gets very dim but still glows
Wow, that's cool! 👍
It's jot the Swiss army knife.. It's a way to overprized copy of the tunenge flashlights.
The tunenge S12+ goes for under 20$ and got the exact same functions and exact same led
The UV doesn't work on body fluids, but it works on bed bugs.
Interesting. I have no need bugs to check out on. Mine does work in body fluids - there is another one I have that doesn't...
Your husband sounds based. lol (weapon mounted light comment)
Lol he says thanks!
@@thevineclimber battery problem. just overheated. the light wasn't on.
That is terrifying. You're lucky it didn't explode!!
@@thevineclimber I tried to contact the company but they don't have a US subsidiary and I didn't feel like e-mailing China. Not worth it.
Very nice edc carry
Absolutely! Small, lightweight, great battery life, tons of lighting options... I just wish it were pretty!
