    I totally agreed at the start of the video when it spoke of teams needing to implement sprint training. Virtually every team sport that involves running should include sprint specific training into their regimen as a means to improve sprint form and speed. This is one of the main things that most team sports lack in my opinion. Very well said

    I don't have access to a sled, instead I do short but steep ( 10%+ grade ) uphill runs.
    Want to improve your reaction time? Play goalie in any sport. I used to get my brother to shoot hard hockey pucks at me with out me wearing any equipment besides a glove and blocker, trust me, your body will react faster because it triggers survival mode.

      reaction time is the most genetic factor ihn sprint and it correlates more with general intelligence, the g factor, than with your general athleticism.

    Been wondering about this one - I've been doing track & field for 5 years now. For the longest time I blamed the fact that I wasn't fast on my school. I come from a poor school where the stadium doesn't even have a tartan and I didn't really have a way to train for the competitions. Until a year ago, I started thinking that the problem might've been me. So I've been seriously training and doing everything to up my PB (I'm talking about going to competitions, training in my free time and so on). My PB at the moment has been the same for 5 months even though I constantly train and push myself. My coach said it's something that I just don't have - "you just are not meant to be a sprinter, you do not have any natural speed". Do you also think that the issue is in me not having any "natural" speed or do you think that I can achieve that the speed I want if I keep pushing.

    • @Samuel-xj4oj
      @Samuel-xj4oj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question Tina. Well, to be a successful sprinter you need to have some natural speed (talent) and combine it with hard work. Only having one of these factors will make things much more harder for you. You don’t necessarily have to be the faster on your track team but you need some kind of natural speed

    0:26 this happened to a girl playing against my daughter's soccer team, she was sprinting to a ball as fast as possible and I think she was the fast player on her team, and a couple of our girls sprinted right past her and when she saw them go by that fast it's like it warped her perception of speed and her legs were no longer going fast enough for her, she went down lol.

      @@TheSprintProject_ Ah my bad, was searching the description section to find the link to it but just searched it instead and found it. That's interesting though. Goes against most conventional sprint coaching mantra where you stop at the weight where your form breaks down so athletes don't start memorising incorrect movement patterns. I guess it makes sense as it's more of a strength based exercise where you maximize your horizontal force production by doing slow heavy pulls and not treating it as a sprinting exercise to get the right shapes for acceleration. But I've never seen it done at such a high load before on the track - even Asafa Powell who did comparatively higher loads using the sled pull doesn't go to that big of a BW percentage. Conventional lighter drills have always been done because the correct sprinting mechanics can be applied but could be interesting to use lighter loads of force production at higher speeds with more emphasis on correct mechanics, alongside heavier loads for sheer horizontal force generation. Would be interesting to see research done for elite athletes rather than high school level ones too. Think I just got confused by the visuals where you had Usain dashing across the screen with his sled and was wondering what super high schoolers there are that manage to peg it with 140% BM of weight behind them
