Good video, i would suggest the cinder blocks would be a better option then plywood, but ultimately you will decide what's what. Great progess on the build, almost there my friend 1k subs is just handfull away.
I think I just didn't want to turn this into a super long and expensive project. I agree that cinder blocks and concrete would be the best option but that would be a boatload of blocks and I would have to create a footing, etc. Obviously this isn't the best way but I'll see if I can made do with it.
Where’s the entrance ? Like in most areas a tornado usually comes from one direction like here it’s from the west , I’d make sure the entrance is not facing that way . Now that’s a big root cellar ! Lol
It will be at the top. This will definitely be a test as I am no structural engineer so I'm going to go slow to use the cellar once it's done. I want to ensure it's safe and bolster any areas that need additional support before I start using it.
@@24acresofparadise as long as your structure is square and plumb you will be fine , as far as on top just remember your not getting any younger and if you need it for a storm shelter a top doors not that good ! How about a stairs with a drain at the bottom and a door to cover it on top ? After all Texas gets lots of tornadoes and severe weather ! Just my thoughts but I want you as safe as possible !
Plywood for the walls? I would advise against that, instead a 2x8 or 2x10 treated for the walls! Overtime that plywood will delaminate and 3/4” is not that strong, if u use plywood at least use treated plywood and 1” would be better. Those cinder blocks would be best but a lot more work
I agree that it's not the best solution to use plywood. I will probably be fortifying the walls with planks. 3/4" plywood was the thickest I could find and it is treated. I think more of my concern is the sideways pressure of the ground so I will need to add extra support to the sides.
They are going to end up being used for holding down the plastic liner that I'll be putting on the shell. Just way too much work and time getting enough to line the whole cellar. Got to move on...

Thanks Dave, yes I will have a stairs leading down from the top with a cover.
@@24acresofparadise when you said top I thought of ladder and a hatch ! Sorry lol !
@@davekimbler2308 Yeah, I definitely want something more stable than a ladder. Will build something that kind of makes sense for a top entry.

I would just concrete the whole thing with my tiny mixer lol.
Lol that would be the best option!

What happened to the dirt bags?
