  • Many channels have done break in videos describing how to break in your new Mercury engine. However, they all seem to leave out some important techniques. The initial break in period for your motor takes about two hours. During that time, it’s easy to get distracted by all the new equipment on your boat plus the procedure gets a little monotonous.
I have included the break in schedule that we describe in this episode.
    1st hour
Idle (not in gear) 3 minutes

    I am a bit confused, u have 3min 500 RPM round after a 3min 3500 RPM? The idle for a 90hp is between 700-800 RPM.And u have this 500 RPM sequence 2 times in the 1st hour and 2nd hour run

From my research it should be similar,as it say in the merc book i received also, various RPM below 4500 with full throttle run of a 1 min every 10min for the first 2 hours.

@cristianracautanu4782 in order to be in compliance with the guidelines from Mercury you need to vary the rpm’s for the first two hours (ie make sure you cover the entire range of rpm’s without remaining at the same rpm for an extended period of time) I believe that what you’re pointing out is that using my system would give you more time at a certain rpm (500) than others. That doesn’t matter. As long as you have covered the range intermittently and run full speed for one minute every 10 minutes. This system meets the manufacturer warranty requirement while giving the user a systematic approach so they don’t lose track of what rpm’s they have already covered.

So I've watched 3 or 4 different videos on this and they all said different things 😢

Look at when the videos were made. Mercury has changed their recommended procedures throughout the years. The main point of my video however gives you a structured timeline to change rpm’s that will meet Mercury’s requirements and will make you feel confident that you didn’t accidentally lose track of where you were in the process.
Thanks for watching and we appreciate your comments.
