Welcome to the Blue Cactus Dairy Goat Ranch! We breed show quality Nigerian Dwarf Goats! We currently have a herd of 22 does and 4 bucks. Our herd is rotationally grazed on our 10 1/2 acre homestead in Arizona. We make cheese and soap from the milk we get and we also raise chickens for eggs and meat and keep a large garden year round!

I think Miss Abilene is now my favorite doe. Watching the full labor, with continuous heart bending soft moans and resting her head on the fence ledge , you gotta just love her to pieces for her endurance and gentleness. Then miss nosy britches next door sticking her nose thru the fencing, worried she might possibly be missing something IMPORTANT.....or that Abilene might be hoarding better grub as she snatches hay from Abilene’s side, is just somehow so endearing. Knowing they’ll soon be scuffling out in the pasture, trying to best each other. Sometimes they FEEL human, like sisters who argue and mess with each other, but are bonded together and recognize each other as family. As I’ve said before, I could just watch these videos over and over, (and I DO actually), that circle of life that you and Derek share with us in such a poignant way. Happy Easter you two. You are truly a blessing to this heart.

Your video on Cassie's birth was recommended to me last night (not sure why, lol) and I spent the entire night and into the early morning hours watching the rest of your videos from beginning to end. May I just say that you are one knowledgeable and fierce woman! I wasn't even a goat lover but you've made me become one and I'm now a new subscriber! Looking forward to more videos from you. Congratulations to little Abilene on her first birth. It was a complicated one but she did a great job!

Littlebit is so funny, yelling to the babies in the baby pen, then trying to help Abilene. At least you know if you have a doe that rejects her kids, Littlebit will be up for the challenge. Too cute. Love your goats and you guys. Thanks for sharing... again...

Always worries me when the kids are born breech. So glad they came out alive healthy. Abilene's kids are very cute.

I also just want to say that regardless of a few of the comments made by viewers I stand by a statement that I made in an earlier video, you do a wonderful job in tough situations. Only "going in" and repositioning when necessary. It must take a ton of nerve and patience to wait it out. Maybe I just need to stop reading the comments lol.

Oh my fricken gosh I was crying the whole time!! You both have nerves of steal, great job both of you!! Even though the outcome was positively awesome seeing what the birthing process and how to deal with the different types of birth. It will help many people when their goats kid. I would have not known what to do if I was a first time goat farmer. Thank goodness the second one flew out, calmed my nerves for sure. Great job Abilene!!

Glad what you did and pull the baby she was just so worn out the little mama could hardly make a noise and you know what you want to do. I would love the experience see in the goat go into the cycle of preparing to have the baby doing the walk in here they do and how they said their feet in their minds to do the best jobAnd they did that so a shirt on the second one. How do I get sad to sit here and watch all your old videos to get caught up to where you’re at which I like watching your videos. Thank you for both of you.

The pain in this poor goat is heart breaking. I really feel for her. This is her life is to keep producing. They have cute babies however. These people seem to know what they are doing. I'm not beiñg hard towards this farm I just know how the goat feels , going through labor and delivery is hard. The circle of life. I have 3 children myself. Glad they help this mama.

Oh I was on edge of my chair and almost crying for this mom...We being new goat owners, have 4 pregnant does and is a maiden...I am watching every goat birth possible...praying I don't have to go in and turn a baby...no one can show you how to do that...

So what is the purpose of the first bubble? It's so interesting that she ended up with two water balloons that were totally separated and filled with different colors of fluid.
The red one is called a blood bulb. Each kid has one PLUS their sac. :)
The clear fluid sac is the sac the kid is in.

As a rule of thumb once the white bag appears there should be a head and feet, if that bag bursts and you’ve got nothing coming out then there’s something wrong... you knew that, it was obvious but you chose to wait, which scared the heck outta me. I know some people intervene too early but in this case I was shouting at the screen for you to do something. I’m so please everything turned out well in the end. P.S. I really enjoy your videos and mean no offence with my remarks. 👏👍
I totally hear you, but not always! Yes I knew the baby wasnt positioned properly but in more cases then not, our does have still been able to deliver. Benefit of breeding good quality, wide does. I always wait as long as possible. It's horrible for the doe when you have to go in and the potential complications are endless. My biggest fear is always the potential of tearing the uterus. Which wouldn't be hard to do and it's a dead goat if that happens.

Why 2 sacques? When the labour starts, you should put a half bale in the corners. Makes the area more rounded so they can’t get butt into a hard 90 degree corner. And why aren’t the kids held head down right after birth? I knows it’s easier on the humans, but not best for the baby

If you hadn't been there to help her, what would be expected to happen in a breech birth? Would the baby die? Does the doe become too tired to keep pushing?
Off topic but do you have a video about blood testing for CL, CAE and all the other stuff you need to test for to prove your herd is clean?

I have a question for you? I just started to milk my female goats and they are pregnant again. So how long can I milk them?
Watching Abilene go thought her breech birth brought back our first kid got this year. Luckily you had help to reposition the kid. How would you have handled it if you would have been alone? Asking for reference as I typically am helping to deliver by myself. I couldn't reposition our kid but was able to pull when she had contractions.
I always have a hook in the birthing bucket. I will hook a goat to a fence so they can't get away from me. It would be impossible otherwise
