Even as a wee one, I was always drawn to The Dakota. My da told me I’d just automatically walk to it. It’s absolutely breathtaking on the outside. Once I was able, I purchased an apartment in The Dakota and LOVE it. The inside is just as phenomenal as the outside. We visit as often as possible, despite our dislike for New York and my family even stays when we’re in Ireland. They love it as well. I will say though, I’ve not ever seen John Lennon. Perhaps because I’ve not ever been a fan!? I don’t believe it’s cursed in any way shape or form but it definitely has a draw. As for the elevators; every building in New York has that one elevator that is always malfunctioning. You’re welcome to stay anytime, for as long as you wish. Plenty of rooms to accommodate you. ❤️
It’s very interesting that you were drawn to it as a child, I’m very happy that you were able to finalise the attraction by having your own apartment there, how wonderful! How lovely, it must be to stay in such a historic and elegant building.
@dyslexicsheeple931 oh, I would love to, if the offer is genuine - but we have to wait till our elderly kitty passes on, she is very old and we cannot leave her at the moment.

Good one, Oddie! I lived in New York when I was in college and walked by the Dakota quite often. My friends and I went to Strawberry Fields to sign Yoko's memory book the day after John died. Thousands of people were there ... all of them in tears.
I've been fascinated with The Dakota since the first time I watched Rosemary's Baby; (roughly thirty years ago)I never knew they actually filmed inside the building, I thought they were only allowed to take shots of the exterior and the courtyard. I wish I could explore just one apartment in its original state.. thanks for this Oddie❤
Very glad you enjoyed it Joyce, thank you! I also would like to find an apartment in its original state, or at least retro decorated in the style of that period.
I visited NYC for the first time in 2022. I made it a point to walk through Central Park and visit the Dakota. I also love Rosemary's Baby and I my heart skipped a beat when I saw the building from the park. I was able to sneak a peek at the courtyard and the fountain is still there. The building is also featured in another one of my favorite movies, Vanilla Sky. The history of the Dakota has always fascinated me and I was so happy to have seen it in person. 😊
@@janetpendlebury6808 sadly, no. This building is under HIGH security. Only residents are allowed along with their guests. IF there was a unit available, all agents must notify the building with names and appointment times. 🥲

i've been enamored with the dakota since the first time i watched rosemary's baby. i made it a point to go there on my first visit to nyc and stood there looking up in awe, just basking in its glory. i so badly wish i could spend even 5 minutes in just the courtyard. and the rumored ghosts make it all the more alluring to me! i loved this video, oddie!! ❤
I am afraid of large cities, but this presentation has made me want to go to New York, just to see this building. I would LOVE to be able to stay a few nights in one of the apartments, although there is no possible way I would be able to afford that. What an amazing place!
I love these ghostly, haunting, paranormal stories. As ever they are so incredibly detailed & full of life. Your narration skills are immense & a joy to listen to & absorb. A natural gift man. As ever thank u immensely for this incredible content.
I had the extraordinary luck to have attended the 1st birthday of Leonard Bernstein’s granddaughter. I entered the building with a sense of awe and tried to take everything in. The Maestro’s apartment was huge , with balloons in every single room. My only moment of fear came as my daughter, just a bit older than the birthday girl, sat herself at Lennie’s Baldwin grand piano and started banging her little plastic dinosaur over the keyboard. It was at that moment that I realized that “Lennie” was standing behind me, appreciating my discomfiture at my daughter’s “performance”. At least she didn’t go into the room with a magnificent 18th century double keyboard harpsichord! If only I had seen a ghost, but spending a lovely afternoon in Leonard Bernstein’s apartment was almost as surreal as seeing someone from the 19th century walk through the massive walls.
I found this very interesting, I wouldn't mind visiting if I was allowed to, but I'm not on the "A" list lol. A magnificent building indeed! Great video Oddie I truly enjoyed it. I love old houses and buildings, and I'm sure the spirits of the Dakota will continue to guard the building for always.

This has to be one of the most fascinating buildings in the world. Yes it draws you in like a magnet. Would love to see inside but I know that will unfortunately never happen. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was only the outside shots of the dakota that was used in Rosemary's baby, not the apartments as filliming is not normally allowed in the building. Great video
You may be right about Rosemary’s Baby, the information I researched could indeed be not all that factual regarding the interior shots. Very glad you enjoyed the video!

I'm hooked on "Only Murders In The Building." The real-life Dakota makes me think of the fictional Arconia 😁 Hi, Oddie ❤ Hope you and Oddette are well. I'm sorry your kitty is declining. Wishing her peace and comfort. Two years ago, I had six cats and lost four of them in a matter of months; I miss them and love on the remaining two all the more. Sending hugs ❤
There's a unique beauty when it comes too olderrrr buildings.. u know the ones from looong ago. FIRST TIME HERE LOV THE STORY.. I BELIEVE THE DAKOTA HAS STORIES OF LONG AGO THAT PPL DONT KNOW ABOUT.. LIKE " SECRETS".. FASCINATING!!❤😊
Yes I agree. I’m 28yo and actually looked into why things are boring now. Besides the “cost” factor, “they” want our imagination as a human collective to be suppressed. Buildings used to “inspire”. Now they “dull” our spirits. Even the colours. Everything is grey now. If our spirits and imagination is suppressed, we are easier to control. They know more about the human mind than we will ever know. 😅
As a lover of stories, and interesting people, this looks amazing to live and to visit. I can imagine other writers and people who love history, and even the occult, who may want to do weird things there.
Greetings Sir! How exciting to find this in my feed this morning! Thank you for all your hard work. You do so much research. The pictures you include add so much to your presentations. And - you make some of them move! That must be painstaking. Your voice is beyond description. I'll just say, "I love it!" You have brightened this dark, rainy day for me 😊 Thank you.
Oddie!! Another great story, Thank you!! I had no idea about the history of the Dakota and only knew of it because of John Lennon. My heart is still broken as I remember that day like it was yesterday. Keep up the great work my friend!!
Very glad you enjoyed it Mary, thank you so much for your great feedback, my friend! Yes, it was a very sad day when Lennon was killed, he still had so much talent to share with us.
Oddie, you can take a story and pull me to that place, that time. I feel as if I have been to the Dakota. I live a long way from New York, but feel I’ve been there. Thank you for another winner. I, too, agree you should narrate his audiobook. Your voice is perfect for narration. ❤
I knew little about the Dakota until now. I'd love to have an apartment there, too. Maybe real estate agencies would have interior shots of the apartments. Surely agents would need photos to tempt prospective tenants. I love the photos you shared with us and those ghost images you crafted--particularly that boy with the glowing eyes--were chilling!
Oddy your videos haven’t popped up on my TH-cam in a very long time till today. But the good thing is I have plenty of videos to binge watch. Before my mom passed a little over a year ago I got her into watching too. You became her absolute favorite.
Hello Oddy.... I really enjoy your story telling, and I really enjoyed this story about the Dakota. I haven't caught a video from you lately and I'm happy to have seen this one. Thank You 🤗
I used to believe in ghosts but since my parents passed I no longer have those romantic notions. Thank you for a wonderful story. Another Oddie masterpiece.
Hello my friend Oddity. It's sad what is happening now in NYC. Everything is changing for the worst. I love the old buildings of NYC or any city's. I love your effects you do. It was awesome. Keep up the great work. God bless
I love historical buildings this episode was spectacular the authorities should allow you to stay for free you deserve an Academy award your presentation is superb thanks take care
Yes Oddie, I DID feel the "pull" of this historic building which felt odd to me as most generally, I would feel uneasy about touring a haunted 👻 place...no interest at all. But this building did and in a very pleasant way. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story with us 😊. Love to you and Odette ❤! Cheers 🍻 👏! Both liked and shared!
That was a fascinating and beautifully presented story, Oddie... you get better and better at creating an unsettling, period atmosphere. I too would love an overnight stay. I hope the offer you got, pans out.
I absolutely adored Judy Holliday. I love her movies. Speaking of Roberta Flack, her living at the Dakota might have some bearing on the fact that she is now suffering from ALS. My heart is absolutely broken about that.
Whoa dear Oddie. This one gave me some shivers even as I'm typing. So good to hear you again. Thank you for a most intriguing story. Best wishes to you and Odette. ❤
I saw a relief sculpture, did I miss the statue of the Dakota Indian? I just think of Rosemarys Baby when it comes to this building. So glad it's still in use!
Always entertaining & educational .. never fall short with every video it feels like the first one your just amazing, thank you oddie.. well done watching from Jamaica 🇯🇲❤️💯one love

Dear Oddie, the best video maker on TH-cam. Love this vlog, and very interesting subject. BTW, one of my nieces worked for Connie Chung, very briefly. My niece is a PA, and Connie wanted her to babysit her son, which my niece took exception to, so she quit. Oddie, you're the best. Thanks again for all the work you put into your vlogs. Hello to Mrs. Oddie. Stay safe my friend.
That’s very kind of you Nan, thank you for the lovely compliment. Very glad you enjoyed the presentation. Yes I agree, I don’t think that was part of your daughters job description.
Having never lived in anything but a private house and loving historical buildings, I loved visiting the Dakota in New York as it once was. Are visions and emotional exhibits left from those who once lived there, or are they from current people's own emotional impact of those who lived previously? Many people recall the announcement of the terrible shooting of John Lennon. The former first lady of the USA passed away in the apartment she owned in the Dakota. A building standing over a century must have so much history and stories of past owners who make it home.
You are an excellent research storyteller, I hate the videos that is full of inaccurate information done with the voice of an AI... All your videos are thoughtfully created like fine artwork. Thank you!!!
Been watch your channel 4 yrs now and you are my #1 favorite story teller and you've taught me so much ! Thank you ! === crazy about Sharon Tate link to this place & Rose Mary's Baby !! (saw that movie when i was very young - i was born 1967- North California - that movie really scared me!) === John Lennon being murdered outside - just crazy !!! 12/8/1980 (BTW : my son is working with the remodel project at the very famous Haunted The Driskill Hotel in Austin Texas!!) Harry Houdini performed there once too - the famous historical building is said to be very haunted 👻 ✌🏼🇺🇸
Thank you Oddie. I never knew all of this. Very interesting and quite a bit of shock and sadness. History. Wow. Have a safe weekend you and Oddette🙏🏼💔🕊️
I just love your videos Oddie!! I'm also drawn to very old things. I have some antiques that were handed down to me, and I absolutely LOVE them. From my Grandma's rolling pin to an 1880's curio cabinet with lots of Alaskan ivory in it, all legally bought (at that time). I believe it's illegal now to sell ivory, especially in Alaska. I lived there for four years with my dad, who worked on the pipeline when it was being built! My dad helped MAKE that pipeline, which is actually a very big deal for Alaskans! See you later Oddie!! ✌🏼️💜🇺🇸
I’m very happy to hear that, thank you so much for your great feedback, my friend. It’s wonderful that you share the same interest as me, in preserving these artefacts and heirlooms from the past. Yes, indeed, Ivory is illegal now, but the old Ivory, that is over 100 years old, is classed as antique. Sounds like you have a beautiful collection.
@@ObsoleteOddity You're right, most of the ivory has a yellowish hue to it. It adds something to the pieces in my opinion. Some have tiny black lines from age also. There are a couple of polar bears that are still white and shiny too!! A momma and her two cubs, I think they are my favorite, but I love every single piece!! Thanks for reading my comment!! I do have a couple of pieces that are antique, and the rest are getting there!!
I love New York exactly for this reason - all those old buildings and their history. The aura; the allure. I've only ever been to NYC for work (so very briefly) so I wasn't able to really sight-see as much as I would have liked. One day I will be able to roam the streets as I would like. Thank-you for another interesting video. 🙂
I do hope you get to realise your dream of wandering the streets of old New York Louise! Very glad you enjoyed the presentation and thank you so much for your positive feedback!

Thank you so much for your appreciation and kind feedback, I’m very glad you enjoy my work, that’s very kind of you 😊
Sundays best storyteller
Sir oddie pray all is well ❤ great added touches
That’s very kind of you, thank you!
Beautiful narration and visuals.
That's very kind of you, thank you for that.
I’m very happy to hear that Sandee, thank you so much for reaching out with your lovely feedback - much appreciated! 😊
Much appreciated, thank you kindly!
Brilliant! As usual, Oddie! By the way, Harlan Coben is a very famous Crime Author. ❤
Very glad you enjoyed it my friend, thank you!
I so missed watching your videos!!! lots of love Oddi
Welcome back!

Oddy your videos haven’t popped up on my TH-cam in a very long time till today. But the good thing is I have plenty of videos to binge watch. Before my mom passed a little over a year ago I got her into watching too. You became her absolute favorite.
Yes, TH-cam suppressing my videos as usual, but glad that one at least made an appearance.
I’m sorry to hear about your mother, my condolences.
Hello Oddy.... I really enjoy your story telling, and I really enjoyed this story about the Dakota. I haven't caught a video from you lately and I'm happy to have seen this one. Thank You 🤗

Wonderful natation as always, Oddie. Its most certainly interesting haunted place. Excellent video.👏
Thank you very much, Oliver, very glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! 😊 Glad you enjoyed the presentation my friend!
Wonderful, pictures are so wonderful. I love how you add them to the ambience. Great presentation. Made my Sunday 😀
Thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback 😊
Thank you once again for your marvelous history lesson. All the best .

That was a fascinating and beautifully presented story, Oddie... you get better and better at creating an unsettling, period atmosphere. I too would love an overnight stay. I hope the offer you got, pans out.
I’m very happy you think so Dorothy, thank you so much for reaching out with your kind feedback 😊
@@ObsoleteOddity It’s a pleasure ❤️
Another wonderful video! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 😊
I enjoyed your video about the Dakota very much. It's an intriguing building. Thank you for sharing.😊
So glad you enjoyed the presentation - very much appreciated 😊
I absolutely adored Judy Holliday. I love her movies. Speaking of Roberta Flack, her living at the Dakota might have some bearing on the fact that she is now suffering from ALS. My heart is absolutely broken about that.
Whoa dear Oddie. This one gave me some shivers even as I'm typing. So good to hear you again. Thank you for a most intriguing story. Best wishes to you and Odette. ❤
Thank you for watching and listening my friend.
Well Done ! Bravo !
Glad you enjoyed it!
I saw a relief sculpture, did I miss the statue of the Dakota Indian? I just think of Rosemarys Baby when it comes to this building. So glad it's still in use!
Thank you so much amazing ghost story

Oh Oddie, you've such a lovely community here. Truly one of my favourite channels!! Love to your aged wee moggy ❤
They are indeed, and thank you for being one of them. 😊
Very much appreciated. 🙏
Such a beautiful building, if I had the chance to visit I would love Kim from Nottingham England xxx
thank you sir great content 👏
And thank you for your great feedback!
I lived in New York I was born in New York what a great story I loved it amazing as always
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
Having never lived in anything but a private house and loving historical buildings, I loved visiting the Dakota in New York as it once was.
Thank you so much for your appreciation and kind feedback, I’m very glad you enjoy my work, that’s very kind of you 😊
Been watch your channel 4 yrs now and you are my #1 favorite story teller and you've taught me so much ! Thank you !
===
crazy about Sharon Tate link to this place & Rose Mary's Baby !!
(saw that movie when i was very young - i was born 1967- North California - that movie really scared me!)
===
John Lennon being murdered outside - just crazy !!!
12/8/1980
(BTW : my son is working with the remodel project at the very famous Haunted The Driskill Hotel in Austin Texas!!)
Harry Houdini performed there once too - the famous historical building is said to be very haunted 👻
✌🏼🇺🇸
I’m very happy to hear that my friend, thank you so much for reaching out with your lovely feedback - much appreciated! 😊
Thank you Oddie. I never knew all of this. Very interesting and quite a bit of shock and sadness. History. Wow. Have a safe weekend you and Oddette🙏🏼💔🕊️
I appreciate that, thank you so much for your kind feedback 😊
Wow! Thanks! 💗✨
You're welcome 😊
Good story. Excellent presentation. I've only heard of this building. Didn't know it had haunting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
A new Oddie video! So excited!!!
Much appreciated, thank you kindly!
@@ObsoleteOddity
You're right, most of the ivory has a yellowish hue to it.
Love watching these historic stories. Such good graphics and narration. Thank you
I’m happy to hear that, very glad you enjoy my editing and narration, thank you for watching!
Ghostly music with a chilling edge 👻
I love New York exactly for this reason - all those old buildings and their history. The aura; the allure. I've only ever been to NYC for work (so very briefly) so I wasn't able to really sight-see as much as I would have liked. One day I will be able to roam the streets as I would like. Thank-you for another interesting video. 🙂
I do hope you get to realise your dream of wandering the streets of old New York Louise!
Very glad you enjoyed the presentation and thank you so much for your positive feedback!
