Thanks for reviewing Alan. Have never had the priviledge to try this one before it was discontinued... but that counts for a lot of expressions. And I just am not able to try them all. Slàinte mhath
Hi Alan, in the wake of the crazy whisky prices and our drift into loving mediocre whisky I've started to delve into my considerable stash and what a revelation. Old Pulteney 21, Benriach 17 PX Finish, Caperdonich 18 (Berry Bros), Laphroaig 15. All old school and absolutely amazing. Far better than what we buy these days. It really is. They don't make whisky like this any more and I don't think they can. The casks for these whiskies were quality casks and where are they today? I didn't have to sell a kidney to buy them either. I still have an Old Pulteney 17 u=in the bunker and I think it cost me £70 or so. Cheers. WT
These old Pulteneys really were special. They've rebranded it into anonymity, I'm afraid, like Balblair. Just another whisky now, lost in all the noise. Glad I stocked up on a few while they were around!
5 bottles of Old P. 17 surfaced on the Portuguese market last year...got hold of 3 (downed one...)...marvellous drop, complex, satisfying, extremely well made. Glad for this re-review, Old P 17 is a great topic of conversation
Love this one and have a special place. Found a bottle last year but because it’s so good I’m afraid to open it. 😉 I had one 18yo that not had that sherry overcoat. That one was the most close it got to the 17yo. Just bought an new 12 and looking forward if it is that good as the older ones. Slainte
Sounds fantastic Alan, thanks for sharing. Just out of curiosity, have you ever had a chance to try the OP16? Some say it edges the 15, but likely still not comparable to/different style from the old 17. Cheers!
You had better get moving if you want to polish off all those bottles behind you , I have the same problem now that I am 63yrs old, Incidentally you're missing Macallan Edition 4 on that top shelf (lol)
Thanks for reviewing Alan.
