  • Join me in this vlog as I head out into the Norwegian "wilderness" (20 minutes from town) make my way through the forest - skiing! Nordic skiing has a long heritage in Norway and I'm slowly finding my way back to my cross country ski genes! They're in there somewhere!
    Growing up I used to go skiing a lot. We call it "Langrenn" in Norway, which literally kinda means "long run". I think I've got the techique down pretty well, but I'm quite rusty. I had a 20 year hiatus before picking up the skis again a couple of years ago, but this is the first winter I'm home in Norway for quite some years, so I thought why not make the most of it and go skiing!
    I'm trying to put a little bit more energy into the video production process, so here's my latest attempt at a cool vlog. I'm pretty happy with the result! Tell me in the comments if you liked it!

    I love this. My father's family is from Norway and I grew up Nordic skiing in Montana! I'm coming to Norway this next Christmas to ski, and I love how magical it really does look. It is too true that the wrong wax really makes the effort that much more difficult. Takk!

    Great video! Cross-country ski is a great passion of mine, and I am lucky to live close by to a great nordic center, at Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. I try to ski each weekend from November through May. I hope top start exploring other cross-country trails in the US, and possibly Europe!

    Good to see u back on the skinny skis ⛷️. Are u going to tour around at different places ? I’m a ex Nordic racer living in a warm climate city now in USA. I lived and trained in Lovenstad ( spelling) back in 1985 and had opportunity to race at Homenkollen in National race . Absolutely amazing experience and snow ❄️. Idea, maybe talk about area u plain to ski ? Content for channel. Stride and glide 😁💪

    Definitely get a GoPro if you intend to do more videos like this, which I hope you do.

      I do have a GoPro but it's just generally more convenient with the phone, and the quality is just as good, but on this particular video yes I agree a GoPro would better. But the sound is really bad on the Hero4 so not sure...Take a scroll through my older videos and you'll find plenty of GoPro footage :)

    Great video! It’s been a year since I skied, I’ll have to get back out. I liked the info on your protein shake. Could you do a video on your macros? Kind of what I eat in a day type of thing?

      Thanks! I will try to do that within the next few months!

    Looks beautiful. Hello from Minnesota. What about getting a go pro or something you don’t have to hold if it would help? Hope you got to cozy up good afterwards. Thanks for the glycine info. I may try that. I’ve never been skiing and would like to some day.

      Thanks! I actually have a GoPro but it's just so convenient with the phone, and the quality is just as good in my experience. But you're right, in this particular situation I think the GoPro would be better The sound would suck though...

    Hello. Loved your video. I am from Ontario, Canada, and we are hoping to visit Norway next spring, Covid allowing. We would be arriving about April 23, and I’m hoping I’ll still be able to get a day of skiing in before the snow is all gone. Can you tell me if you think that might be possible, perhaps somewhere around Lillehammer? Would love to have that experience of cross country skiing in Norway. I ski quite a bit in Canada, but I’m 68 years old so nothing too strenuous.

      Hey! Thanks! I think late April is generally on the late side when it comes to skiing conditions, but there's usually some snow left even here at sea level around Oslo. So yes if you go to Lillehammer or something like that I'd guess that you might still find OK snow! I don't know for sure though and I also think it depends a lot on the year. Fingers crossed you get some skiing in! Wishing you a good winter and hopefully a nice trip next spring!

      @@LoneEndurance Thank you for this. It’s about what I expected to hear. I guess we’ll just take our chances. The ski trails you were on look so lovely in your video-and I’m all about the idea of skiing (even one day) in the cradle of the sport (although I consider it more a way of life than a sport). Anyhoo, thanks again.

    Skiglide is a fickle thing - need to be expert at putting on the glide. At Hardangervidda I ended up with terrible glide also, due to changing conditions and quality of snow(no tracks):))

    On the athlete special Spencer mentions that his recovery drink should be 3 part carbs to 1 part protein. He isn't exactly great at nutrition from what we see. But it sounds like a pretty good rule right. Is that something you have looked into? Im currently running a similar distance to you weekly, and wander if I should be taking pea protein or other sups like you mention in this video. But at the same time I do worry about some of the stuff the vegan doctors like Garth Davis and Dr Greger etc say about high protein meals.

    • @LoneEndurance
      @LoneEndurance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that 3 to 1 ratio sounds like a good rule of thumb, but I would instead look at it like this: It will depend on when your next big meal is. If you're eating a real meal within 30 minutes to an hour tops you don't have to think too much about that recovery drink, but if it's longer than 45 min to an hour away then definitely get in some carbs and protein. 20+ grams of protein is a good amount after a workout (and for every meal for that matter) and in terms of carbs anything will do but when you DO eat there should be plenty of carbs there. Top notch performance probably necessitates 10 grams of carbs per kilo per day. Summing up: A recovery shake should have about 20 grams of protein and twice or three times that amount of carbs - and then eat a real meal later - or you could make the shake half of what I just mentioned and eat a meal in half an hours time.
      I've got a video on supplements coming up pretty soon so stay tuned for that.
      I believe the high protein meals that cause problems are those with protein from animal sources, not plant based. Or do they say plant protein too?

    • @Darkstar001
      @Darkstar001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LoneEndurance Thank you for that detailed explanation :)
      I cannot remember exactly but I believe its been said that protein dominant meals (meat or even plant based) do have side effects. But as you say its important that we eat predominately carbs. Look forward to seeing you video on supplements.
