  • Today I'll take you through my entire coaching setup that I use to coach runners online around the world. We'll talk about what platforms I use, how I keep track of and communicate with my athletes as well as how I plan their training.

Being an online running coach is so much more than just prescribing workouts. It takes a lot of time and focus, and in todays video I go through exactly how I structure my coaching work to help athletes get the best custom training that they can get.
Running an online coaching business is a very rewarding way to work, but it does require you to have good systems and routines in place, so you can deliver a good service to your clients.
The first thing that happens when a new client signs up, is that we start them off on the so-called "starter pack". This includes two consultations where we discuss their training history, goals etc. and where I explain how the plan works, after building it in the time between the two consultations.
I really believe in communicating well with my athletes, so consultations are the best way to do that. It's still possible to coach based off of a questionnaire of course, but the quality of the coaching will not be as good.
When I build my clients plans, I do it in two places. First, I build a cycle plan (aka periodization plan) in excel that shows the overview and framework of the plan. Then I plot in the day to day training in their online calendar. I use the VDOT O2 app / website for this. Also written as simply V.O2, is a great platform for coaches and athletes that is based on the Jack Daniels training system, with built in personalized paces based on current fitness.
In V.O2 I can communicate with my athletes through comments and notes, as well as follow all their training and see their stats. See link above and below to learn more about V.O2.
Based on the feedback that I get from my clients in the calendar, I also do regular consultations via Skype and have an unlimited chat option on WhatsApp that I attend to 6 days of the week. Communication is key as an online coach, so having several avenues of communication works well for me and my business.
Last but not least, I keep track of all my clients through a log system. I currently use Notion for this. It's basically a log for each client, as well as some other overview databases etc. In that log I keep track of everything that happens with a client. Any relevant piece of information, feedback or happenings go into the log. After consultations I write down notes from our conversation. This is key to keeping track and making sure every client gets exactly what they need at the right time.
If you're a coach trying to build your brand and business, and you feel like you need some guidance on the way - feel free to contact me for a consultation on building your coaching business.
