As soon as he said no one uses V3 I said "oh, I don't then he proceeds to use it in one of my favorite applications! Just bought a legend. Thanks for all you do, Woody!❤
I have a Legend JDF which I absolutely love to bits. You have told me what a couple of buttons do here that I couldn't understand and wow, the sound . Thanks so much !
Nice to see something different from the tons of identical jazz noodling videos. I am a classic rock keyboardist and currently use an old, analog Korg CX-3 organ through a Danelectro Spring King pedal and a Neo Ventilator II. It gives a great ballsy sound but the keyboard is as lousy it can be, impossible to do palm smears or precise, fast soloing. So I am reading up on what´s available out there with the hope of being able to invest in something better some day. The Legend sounds really great and the appearance is just massive. Not that I actually need the double manuals for my style of playing and space is always a premium commodity at most gigs but the look is so imposing and there is something so powerful over it that I am irresistibly drawn to it. I particularly like the original version with the added, reverse keys and the proper rocker switches. I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
appreciate the comment and good luck with your quest! double manual is twice the fun, but yes, takes up a huge amount of space in a small studio space.
I owned a 1968 model portable Hammond (still needed four people to carry it. Lol) but had mine rigged up to a guitar amp ei John lord from deep purple style. The round 11 pin socket is vintage vintage and pretty much near obsolete if you haven't got a vintage Leslie speaker. Nice to see every possible type of connectivity included as more old and vintage gear can be used rather than sitting collecting dust.
The Piano Shack looks a bit quiet lately - is it an early summer holiday Woody? Hope you are all keeping well - I look forward to your next production.
Woody you're just so cool! Years ago when I played Hammond organs in cocktail lounges I was quite good at making drawbar registrations and quick changes but not all out or in. I varied the individual drawbars from 0 to 8 according to my personal taste but then again I don't play typical Hammond organ jazz. Playing a B3 in a cocktail lounge for three or four hours can become monotonous. You can only do so much with 9 drawbars and percussion. The greatest thing that came my way in the 80s was the DX7 (I still have mine) that I set on top of the Hammond. That Viscount has a strikingly realistic Hammond sound. The weight of a Hammond B3 was always an issue. I wonder how the keys feel when playing the Viscount as compared to a real Hammond B3? I remember when the H-100 came out I found the keys to be a little difficult to get used to because when pressing down a key on an H-100 your pressing down many more contacts than the B3 keys had under them.
@@WoodyPianoShack You know Woody there was something interesting you mentioned in this video. The bass pedals have a separate output so you can have the bass sounds un-tremmed. When I played on B3 that was one thing I did not like was that the pedals came through the Leslie. I customized mine (reversible) and ran the pedal voices out to their own bass channel. The problem was that the bass could no longer be controlled with the swell pedal. I had ideas on how to change that but I sold my B3 and bought an X-66. I many times have regretted doing that. I married a lot of strange Leslie speakers to B3 organs for several band guys. Those were the days.
@@HD7100 great tale, thanks! yeah, only the pedal tones come out of this output though, but you also have a FX Send for the entire organ, pre-rotary, so there is lots of flexibility on how you record and mix.
that's the one, yes! it's quite ok, but the legend is incredibly deep, so still feels like it could tip forwards or back. can't think of any stand that would be better tho.
Hello, thank you for you work! I think the vibrato and percussion are really awesome on this one. Do you know if the sound quality and the options are the same on the legend solo, is there really any difference except the fact that it hasn't the doudle keys?
OK thank you! That's interesting. It's hard picking the right hammond reproduction kind of keyboard, there is a lot of very cool machine avaible. I think the viscount organs have personality, it sound unique in a way and also it looks elegant with the wood design on the sign, witch is nice for an organ. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the overdrive simulation, from what I've heard I prefer the overdrive of the sk series from hammond, but it's hard to tell because I didn't get the opportunity to play one of those in real life
I’ll add to Woody’s reply, and agree: the sound engine is the same and the differences are more in how you interact with the sound engine. The solo has the same great sound but the Hammond-fanatic interactions are more limited. I guess that puts me in the Hammond Fanatic” camp, as I also chose the Legend Live for all of the interactivity and it has been great for me; I gig with it all the time. But if that not your thing, the solo has the same great core engine.
I am looking forward to buying one of these organs. However, being very old, basic amateur, when it comes to technics I am completely lost. Is it possible to buy one of these, plug it in and start to play? Do I need any other equipment such as a Leslie or any thing else?
Thanks for the interesting review! What kind of stand are you using? Does it have optimal height and stability? Would you recommend her for Legend Solo? Thanks.

Some identical drawbar settings, same musical example across lowest to highest keys. Both with Leslie sims of all turned on and off, because onboard sims also color the tonal quality significantly. Can you, with onboard eq's, get a very similar tone across all keys?
