- Pentium Pro's are rare as hens teeth to find in PC's these days. Today I scrap the holy grail of e-waste and score something very nice.

It's funny, I've watch your videos for so long, scrap prices are awful where I'm at so it's not worth to scrap stuff, but I just always love watching your videos as well as taking apart old computers and stuff like that, just enjoyable tinkering with it.

Really happy to see someone enjoying them again like we did when they came out, its a piece of history.
I saw these in operation, even older stuff. There were pack in container, direct to the landfill when outdated. If i knew.
I think I would just want to mount that motherboard to a nice piece of oak and then plug all the cards back into it and put it on a shelf to enjoy it. That is unbelievably awesome Ben.

Back in the day they probably would have scrapped for resale as lot of these servers ran for a long life and people would upgrade existing servers to avoid the cost to replace and rebuild the server.
Even the normal desktop components were sold at computer swap meets.
Vintage collectors are paying hundreds on eBay these days for unknown state vintage PC's so they can restore the computer to have the retro computing experience.
New PC components had massive taxes prior to GST sometimes up to 22%

Awesome scrap, my older brother used to work at Sun Microsystems in Linlithgow, he worked there for over 20 years. He even gave me a tour one weekend, it was mad watching the machines and all the surface mount being put down was cool.

As I sit here smoking my cigarette, LOL Ben! 😂🤣😁 I'm very happy for you too! Now to those 2 CPU cards. Place 1 CPU on each one, Place 1 of those small cards on each one. Mount them side by side, with the 2 Maroon heat sinks in between them, label the heat sinks, for purpose/history. Then mount them inside a Shadow Box glass covered, (what we call them here) with LED back lights!👍👍 Too beautiful to not do this! Save them as one unit! Have a beer for me, cheers!

have to admit i was shouting wow myself at the gold capped BGAs, i nearly needed a tissue when you reveiled the 2 PROs !!!
My personnal one time holy grail scrap so far was the power supply... from an AS34 Kormoran missile ! Only highest quality mil grade parts, as conpletely gold coated power transistors, tediously assembled in a large anodized aluminium cylinder machined from one single block ! Sadly it was long before youtube, maybe even before affordable digital cameras, so I have nothing left from it.
Put 2 more Pentium pro's on the other card and Display them side by side WHAT A BEAUTY

silicon graphics are awesome, never got one of their systems
@@eWasteBen S.G.I.. was the leader in early 3-d graphics for T.V.,, Hollywood, Flight simulation et all. Both those companies were "Silicon Valley" before it was"Silicon Valley". I myself am not tech. savvy but like your channel!
The AMD 29040 is a 32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor. Very nice find. Would love one of those in my collection.

hi eWaste Ben, You keep going on about VGA's, Tantalum capacitors, MLCC's Etc but do you have a video on how you go about removing these & what are the prices fo such?
The card that you're wondering about @ 8:30 is your SCSI (drive) controller. The HDD's and probably your backup tape and CD would run in a daisy chain off that. I believe the bottom two cards were dial up modems. Very cool old machine, the stuff we dreamt about when I was getting into the IT game.... nowadays my phone probably has more processing power and storage. Thank you for sharing it.

Hello there. I love your channel and always watch your videos. I have a question that I really hope you see and maybe answer for me.
Just the other day I watched one of your videos where you scrapped out some big flat screen TVs. You and of course all of us were appalled at how little value there is in modern televisions. The circuit boards were almost non-existent.
Here's my question: how long do you think before technology advances to the point where a PC or laptop will have next to nothing in value (In terms of circuit boards and such?)

Gold fingers are the easier recovery of all. 80 to 140 a LB about. Also BB chips.

I would have reused the case as a "sleeper" computer case, but those cpu cards are beautiful.
I wish you showed what operating system it was running - was NT4 multi-core?
Snap Ben!, Imagine that, I found a similar pc on the street this week, it only had one pentium pro in it, attached to the main board. It seems that there is 0.3g of gold in each one. I don't particularly want to keep it, what is the best way to move it on? Ebay?
Please put it on ebay. Do not do what Ben did and scrap it. Collectors like myself spend years looking for systems like this for their collections. Unfortunately so many have been lost due to careless scrappers.

bootsowen I would have bought it in a heartbeat if it was listed on ebay. I would even have payed shipping for the whole thing. If you don’t believe me, please visit some retro computer forums such as vogons or retro machines on facebook and you will understand how much people love these old systems.
