such a remarkable artist! you can see here the importance he devoted to detail in crafting his work. That, plus one of the most unique and beautiful voices is the perfect combo❤

Thank you for that. I am a Roy fan since I am 11 years old (now I am 37). I always did imagine him very quite and soft-talking. I never heart him takling.... BOOOM, He is just the most gentle person, just like his songs. THANKS AGAIN!

Not a TV interview, this was conducted for the Chuck Berry movie, "Hail Hail Rock and Roll" directed by Taylor Hackford.

Roy doesn't hold back and is truthful, Sam Phillips was not paying them their dues, Carl Perkins later sued him, they'll all praise him in one way or another and those snippets are the ones put in on the " Sun and Sam Phillips" stories, books etc.
In fact it's gone down in history that Sam Phillips pretty much created rock and roll and found the artists, He turned Elvis and Johnny cash away first time, when cash eventually made a name with Sun records he got Roy to phone Sam, Sam slammed the phone down on Roy and said " Johnny cash don't run Sun record's, I do"
Most artists had to really try hard to get Sam to take any notice of them, it was their doing more than his.
As for the helping black artists, well he did at first because that's who he could make money out of, as soon as rock and roll took off, most were dropped in favour of white artists.
Phillips became famous because he put himself out there and told wild tales each time one of his recording artists made it big, they at the time were under contract to Sun records so couldn't contradict him or call him out in interviews because it would have harmed both themselves and Sam Phillips, so they said little about it, except agreeing that he found them, gave them a chance and made them famous.
All those big 50s Sun artists, left the label soon after finding fame, they knew they'd get a much better deal elsewhere.
Sam continued to make money out of them years after they'd left and found worldwide fame by releasing all their old Sun recordings that were nothing more than throw away song's, demos etc.
I think he churned out 3 or 4 Johnny cash albums after he left and became a major star, he couldn't do that with Roy as he didn't do a huge amount of recording at Sun studios
