    It's great to teach your kids to do maintenance and take care of their equipment! Good job Harrison and Ryan!

    Great video and great time spent with your children. For a note I fill my filer with oil before installing I find that it puts the oil level right on.

    Thanks for the video. Gives me more confidence in attempting this myself. My XT1 LT42 is at 55 hrs and never had an oil change - never read the manual carefully. This has been very helpful!
    But the very best part was seeing the quality father-son time. Wasn't sure if I should involve my 5-yr old son when I change the oil filter. But I guess it's never too early!

    Have the same mower with about 18 hours on it. These mowers are built to last. My pops showed me how to change oil pretty much on everything. And it has saved me on both cars and mower. Great video!!

    Great to see you teaching your son how to take care of power equipment. Also, the DIY element as well.

    I read you should fill the oil filter with oil prior to install the oil filter. I made the same mistake lol. I don’t reckon it hurt nothing. Just takes a few more seconds to pump oil in while cranking.

      I would’ve liked but you didn’t let your son drive. 😂

      The oil filter holds quite a bit of oil, so if you don't fill it, you might think you put enough oil, but it will end up low after you run it.

    Number one problem owners have is very few read their owners manual. This causes neighbors to bother the ones of us that do keep up our equipment, needless to say they treat their cars the very same way.

    I am going to get the same engine like in your Cub Cadet for my Craftsman LT1000 soon! Kohlers are great engines!

    Remove the oil filter first dipstick, drain the oil this makes it easier for the oil to drain

  • @CapeAnnImages
    @CapeAnnImages 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice video! I have the same tractor. Tips.....Before you start the oil change remove dipstick, this will "vent" for proper oil flow. Also leave the attached drain tube in place over your pan while you remove the filter, there is still residue oil that will flow out. You don't need to buy an expensive Kohler filter. Chances are the one you installed was manufactured by Fram( they make about 80% of all oil filters on the market). Next, after you close the drain add new oil until it shows full on the dipstick then run the engine for about a minute or two. This will allow oil to be pumped into the new oil filter. Then add enough oil until the dipstick shows full! And now is a good time to grease the fittings! Next time allow your son to drive the tractor into the garage!!!! Best Regards, Jay ....Oh BTW wanna have some fun? Get a snow plow and tire chains! You'll be surprised how well it works!

      @@hughesfamilyvlogs7222 One more tip from an old farm guy--its a good idea to fill the filter before you reinstall it. You dont have to fill it all the way up. But if you make this step number one. Lube the gasket like you did, then fill the center hole and set it off to the side where it cant fall over. What this does is get the inside of the filter elements wet with oil also there is oil presure to your motor much faster because it dosent have to run to fill the entire oil filter before it build presure and starts pumping oil through the rest of the motor greatly reducing the time your motor is running with no oil presure.

    Silly question, I changed my oil tonight and then realized I forgot to change the filter. I know it needs to be done but I wonder should I just change it or start over with two new quarts of oil?

    What size shed do you have? I’m about to buy a mower and want a decent size to keep mower. Not too big not too small. I don’t want the mower to take up all the floor space. Thanks. Good video.

    Thanks for posting... I noticed from the video that the dipstick is sometimes not reliable; you wiped it off and tried couple of times... any suggestions? Also, the instruction manual states the "LO" "OIL" will show up on the LCD "if the mower is equipped with oil pressure switch". Does any one know if CC XT1 LT42 has this oil pressure switch?

    • @tedschmitt178
      @tedschmitt178 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil level should be checked several times after changing it, just to ensure the level is correct. The dipsticks are definitely accurate.
