▶【Synopsis】Set during the Ming Dynasty, the story revolves around the romance between General Xu Lingyi and the concubine's daughter Shiyiniang that starts from an arranged marriage. Despite being born with a low status, Luo Shiyiniang is extremely assertive and believes that a woman's vision should not be limited to the household. She hopes to rely on her embroidery skills as a ticket to freedom. However, the once esteemed Luo family is in a state of decline. Hoping to save the clan through a marriage alliance, Shiyiniang is selected to become the wife of Yongping Duke and great general Xu Lingyi. Things were not easy for Shiyiniang due to the Xu family's biases towards her. Nonetheless, she manages to win over their trust through her optimism and sincerity. I love that Danyang was true to her words about treating Shiyi like a sister and standing up for her when needed. Unlike Amber who's clearly fooling herself to believe she's doing it in the best interest of Shiyi...it's impossible for her to have come this far and not realize the best outcome for anyone is to discuss the problem and make plans together to solve it, like how Shiyi and the Marquis has done this whole time

That's why they rely so much on tradition and customs, and that's why she asks whether she's wrong. It's a genuine dilemma: if she accepts their view she has to doubt the tradition she's supposed to represent. It's not just a whim for her, it's her duty.

I know right, Amber is the weakest link. She's not smart enough to give advice. That Shiyi went wrong at trying to give Amber a voice and treat her a somewhat equal. Shiyi tried to in still some self worth and respect in he maids but Amber has always been week.

One thing for sure is how I love how to two main lead couple doesn't care who mis judges them, but reveal who they are and their thoughts later. 🤣 backfired they will catch you.
What is interesting is that Great Madam STILL doesn't get it. One point I would like to make before continuing on to watch this great series. Every woman that GM has chosen for her eldest has betrayed the family including /especially her Ultimate Favorite Lianfang. Her faithful daughter-in-law has made that place a Home.

I wish when GM announced she'd be forcing him to take a new concubine he,or Shiyi,had the presence of mind to point out that the lack of offspring is clearly not a Shiyi problem,or a matter of lack of female bodies he has access to. He's had 2 wives,and what,4? concubines altogether. He wanted very little to do with any of them until Shiyi. She can fill the place with as many concubines as she likes,but if her son doesn't want to sleep with them then it won't do her any damn good.

What kind of sympathy and love are there in such a formulation of the question. If you think about it, Lingyi/Shiyi are the most disenfranchised members of the Xu family, even though they are nominally the head of it.

Okay, serious scene @17:55 but when Zhaoying returned in seconds after attempting to find the Divorce Agreement, I had to laugh. I don't think he even looked, just walked to the other room and back. Lol. Wow, what an elaborate plan to trap Ou Lixing, I loved how Shiyi, Lin Yanxing, and Linyi worked together to make it happen. I hope they can link Qin to this now. Bravo to Danyang for speaking up for Shiyi and recounting all of her good deeds that the Madam has forgotten.

I'm all for filial, but I've done had with Ole Madam, Shiyi has been kicked out, threatened to be kicked out, and repeatedly vilified for no reason because she is the daughter concubine. She repeatedly turned a blind eye with a quickness each time one of the concubines overstepped or disregarded her authority. Shiyi has not only proven herself to be a capable stepmother, virtuous lady of the house, wife, and businesswoman, but she is intelligent and talented as well. I'm also over Amber. The girl has been two-faced and shady from the VERY beginning.

The script writer really destroyed a wonderful character such as the Old Xu Madam. She was so smart, insightful, understanding and generous in the novel. Frustrates me how they changed her character to this.
Yeah, there's really no consistency to her character even within the drama. It's as if she's going through the final stages of dementia. Absolutely no reason for this sort of behavior from her from what we've seen in the previous few episodes. Crap writing for sure.

How did concubine Qin get her way so easily? The mother, sister and Amber are so easy to be manipulated. I’m speechless. Amber is actually helping bad people hurting her loved ones. Poor Dongqing wronged and hurt by Amber.
After watching this multiple times, I realize that Ou Lixing rarely had any plots or plans that he created himself, his wife came up with scheme after scheme and yet every time they failed miserably and instead of giving up, they'd come up with another grand plot to bring down the Maquis. smh. They really had no one to blame but themselves.
Very similar to real life Prince Harry and Meghan.
It is about time someone told grandma her story is over and to let these couples live theirs. I get the culture back then but dang.

Aside from the three evil concubines there's another one Madam Xu since the beginning of the drama she's showed unfairness in treating Shiyi , she's the worst woman among the women in the Xu family. She treated Shiyi unfairly since the beginning of the drama.
Madam Zu treated Shiyi unfairly just because she is an illegitimate daughter..wtf? Is there a difference between children born by wife 1 and 2..lol all sperms making daughters came from same man just different women from different families..all brought up with etiquette..jeez what kind of life were people living those days with such high discrimination?

@@Christinaleslie45 I kind of feel that the writer of the film is trying to emphasize on the family set up in the ancient days, the role of women in society, the hierachies in families, the pressure and prejudice that women had to cope with and finally the strict family values and traditions that were mostly biased against women and how these affected the entire society and governmental decisions.
I also think the writer of this film wants the audience to know that in the ancient times, being born as an illegitimate child or child from a concubine came along with disadvantages in the society, as well prejudice which accompanied a woman or man and affected her or him all the time especially when she got married in a family, she would never be respected due to her lowly background..even the entire society used that to justify their unfairness to her..and if it was a boy, he could never be a crown prince or be favored to inherit any lucrative leadership positions unless if he was adopted by the main woman from childhood..but that also meant that it was like walking on egg shells all the time or standing on a cliff of a mountain.
@@PhiloLutta Well said and i've finish watching it i like how her husband started to love and respect her and told his mother that he would not take no concubine and that he only love his wife which was amazing i was upset at first about the story but it begin to change she started to be respected by the family and by society.
