▶【Synopsis】Set during the Ming Dynasty, the story revolves around the romance between General Xu Lingyi and the concubine's daughter Shiyiniang that starts from an arranged marriage. Despite being born with a low status, Luo Shiyiniang is extremely assertive and believes that a woman's vision should not be limited to the household. She hopes to rely on her embroidery skills as a ticket to freedom. However, the once esteemed Luo family is in a state of decline. Hoping to save the clan through a marriage alliance, Shiyiniang is selected to become the wife of Yongping Duke and great general Xu Lingyi. Things were not easy for Shiyiniang due to the Xu family's biases towards her. Nonetheless, she manages to win over their trust through her optimism and sincerity. Xu Lingyi also becomes attracted to Shiyiniang's various beautiful qualities such that husband and wife manage to find love after marriage.

It’s the first drama that I’ve watched where the second male lead isn’t evil and that the jealous sister redeemed herself. Overall, enjoyed it a lot.

@@analynmantos999 I dislike the grandmother. She lacks ability to make the right judgement about people and she did too many evil things. Normally in Chinese dramas, all the people who did evil things are punished and she has got away scot free! I therefore do not like this aspect of the drama.
@@zhangruyi3153I get your frustration. She made quite a mess for everyone. But the way I see is that everyone in the drama got a chance to redeem themselves. I think that is the point and message.
Madame Xu was foolish and gullible and even though she thought she did things with good intentions, those things ended up creating problems because she was abysmal at reading people and too stupid to think her schemes through thoroughly first.
She finally came to see Shi Yi Niang's good qualities and redeemed herself by being willing to risk herself and her clan's standing with the emperor to do what was right and came to the defence of Shi Yi Niang. Even if she wasn't able to do much, she was there to publically stand up for Shi Yi Niang and delay the execution.
At least at the end she learnt to drop her meddlesome ways after realising that she is grossly wrong in everything and should just leave things alone. Plus they also live in a society that honours filial piety so even if she didn't learn anything, there's not too much her son can do to her except to retire her to a country property that has a bit of distance from them.

I love that the drama had a good solid ending that extends past the end of the conflict and some time into the future. Most dramas stop immediately after the problem is resolved and we don't get to see further into the lives of the characters. Seeing them a bit older, still happily in love and successful is so satisfying.
I guess most writers of dramas would leave it to the imagination of the viewers! though it would be nice to have the writer's conclusion for the ending part
Yes, unlike "Oh, My General" which fstt-forwarded too much into the future and skipped what would have been the thoroughly satisfying part of the Lady General giving birth in spite of leading her army in a fierce battle with the enemy troops while heavily pregnant.

What a journey! I love how this drama is very different from others. The Marquis and Shiyi were made for one another, but who would have thought at the beginning? He is such a supportive and caring husband! Erniang and her facial expressions made this journey fun. I appreciated the support from the whole family when Shiyi was about to be executed. Good job to the team that created this masterpiece and translated it. 😊

One of my favorites was Linbo, and I love the personalities and relationship of Shiyi and the Lordship...true love and caring for each other and people around them.

Wow!! Amazing! I just finished watching this drama in 3 days and I thought it would be a shame not to leave a comment as it deserves so much praise. I loved the male and female leads. Their character development and overall chemistry was chef's kiss. The characters, the story line, the plot twists and the romance, from beginning to end there wasn't a dull moment. To top it all of the way the story tied off at the end was quite satisfying. What a journey it has been!!
I can say with confidence that this drama is as of now one of my top 5. Thank you Tencent for uploading this with English subtitles and letting me be a part of this amazing journey.
I have grown attached to the characters in the past few days and I still haven't recovered from this ride. I am sure I'll be left with these lingering feelings for days.

In the novel, they have a boy and a girl. The son is smart like Lingyi and followed in his father’s footsteps.
Now this right here is what we call a good ending not just leaving everything in suspense like most dramas. This drama was unique and sutisfying. Thanks so much.

Wonderful series. Praise to the whole team. Apart from the fact that the characters are beautifully played, what impressed me is the representation of the femininity through the main female character. Today, when the qualities of womanhood nature are less present in the society, awakening and promotion of the true womanity is necessary. A wise, noble, restrained, upright, non-impulsive, worthy woman with character and integrity is a real pearl. Congratulations on the vigilance created by the Awake Female Aspect through the main female character.

I never watch any movie or drama for the past 6 year's I'm 32 this year my life intention of being enjoy is more into peace and relax. One day just to be happen I open my tv and for the first time I feel I want to watch a movie called Tom and Jerry but when I click the play button the tvbox suddenly show me a Chinese drama called The Sword and Brocade ep 1. So I just let it play and I just put my eyes on the tv screens.. when it's starts to play..I feel straight away this is a great story drama ,and yes I'm so amazing with this drama storyline..

The Grand Madam probably couldn’t have done it during the time she was matron because she allowed all these women into their home.

我是第一次看钟和谭的剧，只看了一集就没看了，后来继续看下去是因为有一集他们成亲后的集情，候爷由冷漠变成一看到妻子就柔情万千，眼神里的欢喜由心发出，钟汉良把这种微表情处理完美，也完美演绎了一个只属于他的徐令宜，有时间会看看他另类角色的表演，徐和十一才是良配，哈哈哈😄

From the beginning till the end, Shiyi’s smile is the best!! ❤️
I am really surprised a soap opera can be this good! :-) Maybe because it was my first Chinese movie. I loved everything about it, the art, the scenes, costumes, their hairstyles, embroidery, caligraphy, and of course the great plot and amazing acting! Looks like almost all the roles were played really well. Erniang for one was so good and believable - a great character portrait! Loved Dongquing's funky hair-style and sulking face too... :-D But probably the best thing about this series was its emphasis on morality, upright behavior and pure love, without any overtly sexual scenes. Quite different from the contemporary movies!
May I suggest "Ruyi's Royal Love In The Palace". It's another wonderful Chinese drama, though be warned that it has a bittersweet ending that isn't as happy like Silk and Brocade. These two dramas and "Story of Minglan" are probably my favourite Cdramas.

I very much enjoyed this drama. The lordship’s abiding and unwavering love for Shiyi is quite unusual for his position and those times of multiple wives. The jail visit scene was very emotional 😭. Love the happy ending and that it wasn’t the usual rush. The view into their future was very satisfying 👍
Wallace Chung is simply marvellous as Xu Lingyi like he was as Chu Bei Jie in the General and I !! Why he has to be so perfect? Now I am....breathless...

It was a lovely ending. This is one of the few Chinese dramas these days that I think is actually good and worth re-watching. Good ost, good directing, nice plot, and especially good acting. Everyone of the actors played their characters well.
You're absolutely right. I just had my second go round of this show and was just as captivated by the story and the way it was portrayed by the characters as I was about a year ago. I have followed Wallace Chung's roles religiously since then and while I mostly watch historical dramas, his recent performance in 'Because of Love' was heartwrenching. Again a great drama with well rounded, though flawed, characters.
@@moodygirl609 This is actually one of the first drama of his that I watched thoroughly. I was not disappointed, but I wish they would have used his real voice like how they used Seven Tan's real voice.
@@luciferm.7904 Yes. They used his real voice in Because of Love and netizens complained because he speaks Mandarin with an accent because he was born in Hong Kong. I liked it very much. He also lost a lot of weight for that role and somehow looks a lot younger than in this drama.

You meant “My Sunshine” starring Wallace Chung and Tiffany Tang. “You are My Sunshine” is a movie by Huang Xiaoming and Yang Mi. Clearly the drama is much better than the movie.

I never watch any movie or drama for the past 6 year's I'm 32 this year my life intention of being enjoy is more into peace and relax. One day just to be happen I open my tv and for the first time I feel I want to watch a movie called Tom and Jerry but when I click the play button the tvbox suddenly show me a Chinese drama called The Sword and Brocade ep 1. So I just let it play and I just put my eyes on the tv screens.. when it's starts to play..I feel straight away this is a great story drama ,and yes I'm so amazing with this drama storyline..

it is a very well-written story! Feel so complete and satisfying! All the characters are very outstanding, esp. the 2nd sister. So funny and touching.
Even though the male lead not as good-looking as many other actors, but he acts good and fit the role very well. Very touching acting.
The female lead is just awesome. I have always loved her. I watch this show mostly because she is there.
A 46 years old looking this good and you said he’s not good looking ?? He fits the role perfectly. The marquis is 15 years older than Shiyi which is the actual age difference between Wallace and Tang. In the book, the marquis is a tall, learned and refined, elegant man with inner double eyelids.
While shooting The Sword and The brocade, Wallace was doing Street Dance 3 at the same time ( he was recruited at the last minute to replace Show Lo who was ousted bc of scandal ). He barely gets enough rest during those few months but his performance was completely engrossing / captivating!
The best ending that is so joyful and brought contentment in my heart. So true, loving and empowering. Thank you for such a beautiful drama series. It is really worth the time watching.
This is one of the best dramas i have watched so far... this was my first time to watch a chinese drama but for sure wont be last🥺 now knowing how talented chinese actors are, and how beaitiful their plots and drama production is... i loved every single moment of it... specially their pure love story was so precious that i would love to watch it over and over again😭😭❤❤❤ thanks for translating this beautiful drama🙈
