I love the detail of correction at his side as he is explaining it to the crew. "Two lithium hydroxide cannisters." "It's a good arm length." Every detail mattered
This scene exaggerates the problem. The filters had to be different for engineering reasons, but the procedure to substitute them was written as part of the flight contingency planning.
Every procedure they used, even the power up one before reentry, was already written up. They were made with different scenarios in mind, but they served the purpose they were needed for regardless
No it wasn’t. The procedure was concocted during the mission. The only exaggeration is the group of people working the problem as the issue appeared to be escalating (I.e. as this scene shows). In fact, they had already anticipated this would happen and one fella worked on it and came up with the procedure earlier on before it came to the point of being a life-threatening situation. Movies like to add suspense, I guess (even if there was already enough).
@@jamguy1152 if I remember correctly, he was called about the problem at home and as he was getting ready to come in and on his way in he had already thought of and devised the solution. So it was really a spur of the moment idea... kind of.

Exactly. Movies inspired by true events are almost always dramatizations…as they should be. If people want the true story of something they should go find a documentary.

If 17 season of Mythbusters has proved anything. Its that Duck Tape is a gift from the Gods.
Something is already perfect and won’t change a bit till 30th century
apparently because of Apollo 13, duct tape is brought on every space mission sanctioned by NASA. i mean it should be a no-brainer lol
Duct Tape, Zip Ties and WD40. Those things should be in EVERY household because you can do SO much with them its incredible.
"It's not a perfect solution for anything, but it's an adequate solution for everything". I think this is what Jamie Hyneman said about duct tape.

Grumman was really on a tight leash by NASA for weight reduction for the LM so they have to use cylindrical canisters for less weight
