If the memory serves me right Apollo 17 also used a duct tape to repair some part of the wheel on the moon too. So right now whenever I see a good old duct tape in the space movie, I kinda know that everything is gonna be alright.
yes, when they unfolded the moon car, one mudguard collapsed. the dust that the wheel would have raised without a proper mudguard would have made the trip impossible. Cernan and Schmitt fixed it with a combination of moon maps, duct tape and clips that they stole from the interior lighting of the lunar module.
What they did onboard that space capsule was to make an oxygen rebreather . Yes , a lot of duct tape was used to hold it together . Rebreathers are what's used when people go scuba diving and this way there are no bubbles when they breath out . Rebreathers were used by the navy during WW11 . A rebreather is also called a carbon dioxide scrubber . They are used in just about all American space missions , this is what filters all the Co2 out of the air inside the space craft .
Not all scuba uses rebreathers. In fact, rebreathers are considered advanced scuba and requires special training and certification to use. It's normally reserved only for very deep dives.
I sure hope that duct tape is required to be standard equipment on ALL manned space missions. In fact, how much duct tape does the International Space Station have on board?
NASA has officially made duct tape a standard thing taken up in every space flight (it was on board all of the Apollos even before they officially made it a required item). So the Artemis flights will definitely have duct tape.
Rumour has it that Ron filmed the scene with just the one guy doing it ...... And no one believed it. So he apologized to Ed and filmed the one in the Movie! So even Hollywood needed a room full of actors to play Ed Smiley!
even if they ripped both bags, they could just grab a spacesuit and cut a portion of it, to simulate a bag, and cover the filter with it and duct tape it to the filter. would work the same.
When I learnt the accident, my first query in my mind was: how come they have duct tape onboard? What was the original plan to do with the duct tape for the mission at the first place?

What's kind of funny is that this isn't a complicated procedure at all and in hindsight, seems like a pretty easy solution to the problem

It's a smokescreen, they never went anywhere near the moon.
True, but in the heat of the moment it's usually nowhere near as obvious
The problem isn't methodology, it's available resources. Once you've got what you're working with sorted, it's basically down to execution.

Duct tape can fix a lot. It was for an emergency
